As someone who has buried too many people that I loved, I can tell you that you get over everything. Some people use religion and some people gamble and some people write letter to the editor and some write scathing verbage on web sites. But you get over it. Just because you use something to get over it doesn't mean that the thing you used was great or noble. It was just a tool.

the only reason travolta's giving scientology all this good PR is because they're blackmailing him. he wanted to leave the church after his son's death, but they basically threatened to give every tawdry shred of evidence of his homosexuality and all the sex he's had with men to every media outlet. they told him he either play ball or they'll humiliate him and essentially end his career.

I feel bad for him, more because his son's death led to a crisis of faith that his former church is completely ignoring, opting to simply keep taking advantage of him (because ultimately, scientology is all about money and manipulating people). but then, that's the price he ultimately pays for fame and for choosing to live a lie.

Travolta gives us lots and lots of opportunities to mock his Scientology, including the way it helps him to live closeted. It would have taken just the tiniest bit of class to pass on this "story."

Scientology is set up so that you can keep no secrets from them, and then they blackmail you to stay and keep paying (agreeing with @36). If you try to fight them, or write about their methods, they will literally try to ruin your life and possibly end it. It isn't just another silly religion. It is dangerous. Quite a number of people have died 'in their care', and quite a large number have committed suicide. Untold thousands have been financially ruined to keep their coffers full, and more have been ruined by their army of lawyers. It is all out there to read about, reams and reams of information from a lot of sources -- journalists, ex-members, family members, all saying the same thing. They are such a frightening group that I don't even feel ok criticizing them here. Those of you who think talking c**p about Scientology is unfair don't have a clue.
