Sep 14 2009Patrick Swayze dies at 57
Iconic actor Patrick Swayze lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer today, according to the AP:
"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.
Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.
When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that.
"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters in early 2009. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."
Because Patrick was such a rare breed of hard-working talent who made characters such as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing and Bodhi in Point Break staples of a generation - my generation - may he find the ultimate rush on the other side.
You'll be sorely missed, Patrick. Rest in Peace.

We have lost one of IMO greatest actors of our time. He was good good and his range was suupassed by very few. He could take a tough guy role then flip it and take a role like Ghost and make you belivie both of them.
We have lost so many in 2008 and 2009. We all knew he would go but it still breaks my heart to see him past.
for me I have lost actor and human being that I look up to and who I model myself after. Someone that everyman wishes he could be.

From all accounts he was a nice fella, consumate and very professional actor and was..."one of the good ones".

So sorry for his family. This really tugs on my heart. I'm not going to lie and say I've seen all of his movies and that he is my favorite actor ever. But from what I have seen, he was a great actor.
But more than that, he seemed like a genuinely good guy. A real class act. He was truly a hard-working man. More interested in making quality films than getting caught up in the all-too-common scandal. A true class act. And from what anyone can tell, he had a long, wonderful relationship with his wife and family which is so rare in Hollywood.
He put up a good fight right up to the end... A real inspiration.
RIP Patrick. :( You'll be missed.

truly a sad moment. I liked his role in Donnie Darko and of the often overlooked, 'City of Joy'...its a giant loss to a 2009 which will be the start of death and tragedy to follow in battalions....as we age, as we eat more bad foods, and hate more, and have haters all over the world.....Kayne West is a vile, mockery of an artist, he should shut that hole in his mouth, because everytime he opens it, he sounds more and more ignorant, intolerant and uneducated, not to mention he is an awful singer....
Rest in peace and kick ass wherever you might be brother

Didn't really saw the old movies he became famous with, certainly I'm not into cheesy dance movies BUT Patrick's role in "The Beast" (lead) was the best I've seen for quite some time and I wished he could have continued that series.
Everyone who hasn't seen it, have a look, forget the cheesy stuff you thought of when his name came up, forget the stuff he did at the beginning of his career :

I can't think of one of his movies I didn't like and some of them even happen to be my favorite movies of all time. Yes #119 I remember Too Wong Foo, excellent movie by the way and he played Vida to the hilt. He always put his heart and soul into everything, some of his roles may have been cheese, but it was some of the best damn cheese ever. I think all of us women who grew up in the 80's wanted to be Baby. I so wished his TV series The Beast started many years sooner, long before Cancer came knocking at his door, as it was shaping up to be one of his best characters yet. He was the consumate gentleman, a man's man, and made all the ladies swoon. They don't make them like him anymore. My heart goes out to his family, but most especially his wife of 30+years. May she find peace in the fact that he is no longer suffering. RIP Mr. Swayze, you will be missed.

Sucks. Rare breed. He was a man's man who could pull off the foo foo rolls. I thought he'd be bigger.

2009 will go down as the death of entertainment. TV, music, movies, are sucking more than ever.
"The Beast" was awesome too.

What a terrible disease to take such a wonderful man. Married for decades to the same woman. Living a good life and working hard.
My sympathies to his family and friends. Patrick will live on in his work.

Hey guys, I know thi sis hard to believe but I found a way to hack into Swayze's E Trade account. He's got millions of dollars in there!!! I have an offshore account... I need a partner on this if anyone is interested. I totally found a way to filter his cash online late at night in my office building into my account.... anyway I don't see any way this could go wrong at all... I mean the man dies .. we take his money!

My God: I don't think it's ever happened before in the history of the superfish: 163 comments, and not a nasty one among them. Patrick, you were lovely and will be missed :(
He was indeed a class act. His kind of behavior should put the likes of Kanye West to shame.
RIP

Just as in the movie "GHOST". "The love inside, Molly; you takae it with you. I am sure he has taken the love of all who fondly remember him with him and he is at peace. He followed the "WHITE LIGHT" and made it home.
