This is really a heartbreaking story. There is never an excuse or reason to be physically violent with anyone, let alone someone you love.

At one point the KKK were supported by the FBI's corrupt J Edgar Hoover (who helped cover up the murder of a white female anti-racist activist and her black friend, and would later cover up the murder of a Black Panther activist who had never comitted any crime except verbally criticizing the government.) The KKK attacked people who registered African Americans to vote, and also KKK also persecuted any Jews and immigrants, most of whom were white, too!

The KKK was formed by racists who wanted to maintain power, while the Black Panthers was formed in self-defense against these racists. Wouldn't you be a little fed up if the government stood by while cops were unfairly beating up your friends, lynching your relatives, smashing the skulls of peace protestors (see: Freedom Bus rides and any MLK protest)? The Black Panthers would not attack anyone unless that individual was trying to attack them. They were created from the legacy of slavery, lynching, and racist crimes which affected them, their friends, and their ancestors. The Black Panthers were an organization of people trying to defend themselves against a society which had enslaved and continued to lynch and murder their ancestors--- and their friends, of all colors.

Fun fact--- the Black Panthers attended many anti-racist events, even if the racial cause wasn't African American. Some were active in Asian American anti-racist events, such as the I-Hotel protest. Hope this helps clear things up!

It really is a testament to how little North Americans know and understand about their own society that they would ultimately blame the action of domestic violence on "race." Race is a social construction, it was systematically created through social darwinism which was really popular around the time Africa was colonized and the African nations we know today were etched out by various European nations. The oppression of the colonized by the colonizers has left a long lasting effect on these nations, just as slavery of African Americans has in America (and lets of forget racial segregation until about 60 years ago...separate does not mean equal), as well as, from a Canadian perspective, the Aboriginal peoples who I see in my country as continuing to feel the effects of systemic racism. Although I understand it is easy to not confront these issues and to reduce everything to easily identifiable elements (i.e. age, race, social class), there are layers of things that cause the problems we see in Western society. Also, if a child experiences abuse in his home, he is much more likely to abuse himself. Maybe Chris Brown needs some narrative therapy to work through the times when he was a victim as well as a victimizer.
