Oct 21 2009Suzanne Somers apologizes for Patrick Swayze remarks

Suzanne Somers apologized on Extra last night for making comments right after Patrick Swayze's death that chemotherapy killed him and not cancer:

"I should not have said what I said," Somers says of her controversial remarks. When asked if she believed Swayze would still be alive if he hadn't undergone chemotherapy, Somers replied, "I don't know what Patrick chose, I don't know anything about it. I apologized to his family, I apologized to his brother -- I'm really, really, really sorry because everyone, when they're choosing treatment for cancer, makes the best decision they can."

Of course, the one person she hasn't apologized to is Patrick Swayze, so she might want to get on that by meeting him in the afterlife. Also, Suzanne, it'll totally boost your book sales because that's what this is really all about, isn't it? Hell yeah it its. High five!

Sep 18 2009Suzanne Somers: 'Chemo killed Patrick Swayze'

Suzanne Somers believes chemotherapy is what really killed Patrick Swayze, according to Page Six:

"They took a beautiful man" and "put poison in his body."
Somers, who has a book about cancer coming out next month, said: "Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins? . . . I hate to be this controversial . . . but I have to speak out."

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure pancreatic cancer is what killed Patrick Swayze. However, unlike Susan, I've never formed a dynamic duo of dumb with Pamela Anderson, so what do I know?

Sep 14 2009Patrick Swayze dies at 57

Iconic actor Patrick Swayze lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer today, according to the AP:

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.
Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.
When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that.
"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters in early 2009. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."

Because Patrick was such a rare breed of hard-working talent who made characters such as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing and Bodhi in Point Break staples of a generation - my generation - may he find the ultimate rush on the other side.

You'll be sorely missed, Patrick. Rest in Peace.

Jan 17 2009Patrick Swayze puts pneumonia in the corner

Patrick Swayze has been released from the hospital after battling pneumonia the past week. People reports:

"I am happy to announce that Patrick Swayze is home after a brief hospitalization for pneumonia," his rep Annett Wolf tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Swayze, 56, checked himself into the hospital for observation on Jan. 9 after revealing he had pneumonia, canceling his appearance at the Television Critics Association press event to promote his new A&E series, The Beast, which premiered Jan. 15.

Seriously, whatever the fuck that guy is made of we need to put it in our drinking water. - - I'll get a blender. You grab the duct tape.

Jan 13 2009Patrick Swayze kicking pneumonia's ass

Patrick Swayze has enough on his plate battling pancreatic cancer, but he hit a bump last week when he was hospitalized with pneumonia. Given only a few weeks to live at the beginning of last year, the amazingly resilient Swayze wasn't about to let some bitchass pneumonia take him out. Us Magazine reports:

Cancer-stricken actor Patrick Swayze, who was hospitalized Friday for pneumonia, is "doing fine," his mother, Patsy Swayze, told Usmagazine.com on Monday. "He sounds really upbeat and positive."

I'm pretty sure scientists are studying Patrick Swayze's blood right now and are moments away from discovering "Wait, this man's not from earth. He was sent here as a baby from the planet Krypton!" Then Patrick Swayze will fly into my house, and we'll go beat up all the kids who made fun of me in school. I told them this day would come. Muhahaha!

May 28 2008Patrick Swayze road-housin' pancreatic cancer

0305_patrick_swayze_cancer_00.JPG

At the beginning of March, reports were circulating that Patrick Swayze only had five weeks to live. Well, over two months later, and using the same pic, I'm happy to post that Patrick is putting cancer's ass in the corner and responding well to treatment. He issued the following statement to People:

"Thought I'd give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well."

Every once in a while, it's nice to take a break from flying nipples and butt pads to write about something positive. I mean, not that boobs aren't positive; let's not get carried away. But sometimes you gotta recognize when cancer gets freaking pwned by Point Break himself. Also, I may or may not be recognizing by standing on my desk singing "The Time of My Life."

The Superficial wishes Patrick the best of luck in his ongoing treatment and, in the spirit of celebration, has included the hilariously classic SNL sketch of Chris Farley and The Swayze trying out for Chippendale's after the jump.

Mar 5 2008UPDATE: Patrick Swayze might only have 5 weeks to live

0305_patrick_swayze_cancer_00.JPG

Patrick Swayze is rumored to have pancreatic cancer and only has five weeks to live. For the past month, the 55-year-old actor has been reportedly receiving treatment at Stanford University's top-notch cancer center in Palo Alto. The National Enquirer reports:

He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for — and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.
"He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure," said an insider.

Okay, hopefully this is a wildly exaggerated report and Patrick Swayze has a long life ahead of him. Considering the National Enquirer is the source and no major outlet is running with it yet (Excluding me. What now, TMZ?), Patrick probably just has the flu. If, however, this is true, I hope the insider, who presumably works for the hospital, gets pancreatic cancer of the eye for leaking this info. Patrick Swayze is an icon who deserves his privacy, dammit. C'mon, Road House? No bullshit; that movie will teach you more than The Bible.

UPDATE: Patrick Swayze's publicist confirmed to TMZ that the actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. However, the publicist shot down the Enquirer's claim that Patrick only has five weeks to live: "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.'" Best of luck to Patrick and here's hoping for a safe recovery.
