I realize this is a technicality, but on of the things that irk me about veterans day is the emphasis on American soldiers only. How about just a simple thank you to all the men and women who served all over the world to maintain the western worlds freedom.

It amazes me when morons denounce the U.S. Military while simultaneously exercising the freedom(s) granted them by our armed forces. Our brave men and women do not dictate policy. They serve their country.
Thank you to every last one of our finest, and that includes the family/loved ones that endure the anxiety which accompanies separation from their heroes. - Past and present... soldiers, airmen, and sailors represent the highest level of prestige our country has to offer.

@22 its people like you who degrade and deminish all of our holidays by "making sure everyone is included" how about we take Mothers day and make is so every living thing with a vigina is part of that day no matter the age or if they have children? Ya I went there and I baught land. God Bless our VETERANS (of which I am) and thank you all for your service.

@30: FYI, we celebrate our veterans here in Canada also today as they served in many wars including WWII. I must admit that American soldiers played a big part in maintaining western world freedom and as a Canadian, I must thank you and all other veterans for that.

Fuck Off with this !
You can't spend months posting nasty comments about famous people with mental health issues, then pretend you have morals.
Same goes for the rest of you (us). You came to this site to see if Lindsay Lohan had killed herself yet. Don't pretend that in reality you are nice people with this 'Amen' shit.

Totally self-serving - do you really think brave men and woman have perished so you can promote a gossip website based on boobs, whores, and plastic surgery? Wave that flag, eat some apple pie, and phone your Mama while you're at it. And that "Amen" crap is soooooooo Superficial.

44. LOL - November 11, 2009 2:58 PM
I laugh at all the responses to #15's comment. He didn't say he dislikes living in America, so why the fuck are you uptight republicans with blind patriotism telling him to leave?
Stupid, typical response to anyone who comments negatively about the US, "YOU CAN LEAVE!" Motherfucker, you and your worthless ancestors had no hand in building this country, so don't pretend as if you are entitled simply because you were born on a piece of land.
I respect veterans, no matter how unjust the war in which they fought in, but I spit in the faces of americans that act as if they are entitled to what the soldiers defend, simply because they are both from the same nation.
45. LOL - November 11, 2009 3:00 PM
I correct my previous statement. Stupid, uptight americans are not limited to only republicans. There is dumb all around in this fumbling nation.

@47
June 26, 1917, the first troops of the American Expeditionary Force arrived in France during World War I.
November 11, observed in the United States in honor of veterans of the armed services and in commemoration of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. In 1954 it was renamed from Armistice Day and given the added significance of honoring veterans.
Google is a wonderful thing.
Thank you to all the troops who have ever served anywhere.

Thanks for killing kids with unmanned drone planes, selling chemical weapons to Israel to enslave Palestinians, calling in airstrikes on wedding parties in Afghanistan and raping women near your army bases in Japan! Here here for the trained professional killers of the American War Machine!

The Bush years are over but the anger is still there across the globe, and the self-righteous xenophobic mob of the US hasn't changed a bit and still speaks with those nerve raking clichés.
Anyway, respect for the veterans.
61. Come on - November 11, 2009 4:10 PM

63. kimo - November 11, 2009 4:20 PM
@ 47 :
The United States was never formally a member of the Allies but became a self-styled "Associated Power". The United States had a small army, but it drafted four million men and by summer 1918 was sending 10,000 fresh soldiers to France every day. In 1917, the U.S. Congress gave U.S. citizenship to Puerto Ricans when they were drafted to participate in World War I, as part of the Jones Act.
Get your SH@T together before you blow off at your dumba@@ mouth
64. missywissy - November 11, 2009 4:48 PM
Okay, here's my take. I love veterens. I think it's awesome that people would do their "duty" or die for me, or freedom, or whatever else they think they're doing it for. Most of them don't probably understand the real politics of war, the real underlying cause of them being somewhere else, but that they're fighting for me in their own mind, I can't love them enough. They are not taken care of and are completely disrespected. Please donate to causes that help care for them. Paralyzed Vets of America is one I donate to. Or at least thank a vet. There's nothing wrong, even if they did kill an innocent civilian, they went somewhere to do what they thought was right for every one here.
Also, yeah I came here for some gossip, one of my vices in life, but it doesn't mean I can't share some respect for folks as well. We're all ambiguous, if you're not then your a finatic in your own beliefs. You left-wingers are looking more and more like morons every day (coming from an independent). It's too bad, because you all have some platforms that need to come across but will never happen because you attack the wrong shit sometimes.
65. missywissy - November 11, 2009 4:53 PM
One more thing, my nephew just went to Afghanastan fucking scared out of his gourd that he may not come back, and whether you all in here like it or not, he did it for you. Even if you don't agree, in his heart he feels he is doing it for his country that he really loves.
66. Veronica - November 11, 2009 4:56 PM
Being a Veteran, I say thank you..to the ones leaving rude ass comments after Superficial graciously thanked us..I'll remember you when, as a military medic, I'm pulling shrapnel out of a 18 year old soldiers head, for WE gave YOU the right to post stupid comments.

Thanks for the oil. Hopefully you Americans don't run out of wood or Canada is screwed. lol
But in all seriousness, I highly respect all the men and women of the armed forces. You guys are all an inspiration. Here's hoping your leaders become a little less corrupt and use you a little more wisely.

#47 , the US entered the Great War in 1917 -- it declared war on Germany and started sending troops by the thousands in 1918. Our presence shifted the balance of power in the war , which was over in the fall of 1918. Silly limey, read your history books.

70. techman - November 11, 2009 9:35 PM
Let's not get into a pissing contest about what country's veterans are the best and let's just thank all the vets whose sacrifices are what gave us all the freedom to have websites like this and to be able to shoot off our mouths like assholes most of the time without getting tossed in some cell somewhere or shot for expressing our opinions.
Thank you to all veterans without whom our way of life with the freedoms we so enjoy would not exist. You gave so much and it's a damn shame that so few appreciate it.
71. Clinton-era Vet - November 11, 2009 10:09 PM
Thanks very much, Fish. When we've seen classy actors pass away, you've echoed their class. I don't think this post is unusual for you, and I appreciate the sentiment, especially with so many young veterans looking for work and trying to adapt to life back home with serious, permanent injuries and visions that most of us could never imagine. My time in our military was easy compared to what these young men and women are seeing today, and I appreciate what they are doing regardless of the political decisions that sent them there.
@22: I'm with you. Lots of brave Canadian, Australian, English, and French soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines (among others, I'm sure) have fought bravely alongside Americans in the last 100 years (WWI, Normandy & all of WWII, Vietnam, the Gulf). No reason to exclude them from today's recognition.
@47: Not even worth the time. Celebrate Remembrance Day today if you want, but we celebrate Veterans Day in the United States of America, so that flag is perfectly appropriate.
@56: Enjoy your hatred and the smug superiority of someone who has never faced real danger. The American military is held to a standard of conduct higher than any other force in the world (see the African Union and UN troops in Africa now for an example). These examples that you cite (save the chemical weapons allegation - which I can't reconcile to an actual event - which is a civilian government action, not a military decision) are shocking because they are isolated examples inconsistent with the day-to-day, honorable performance of our troops. What holiday is set aside for jackass haters? April 1st? We'll post a "thank you, Jackass Hater" on 4/1/10.
"We live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide. I would rather you just said thank you...otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post."

DID YOU ORDER A CODE RED?!?!
73. Jiggy - November 11, 2009 10:57 PM
Do you think that includes people who worked in an office? For me it has always been about those caught in the middle of the action, like my grandparents. I think people who sat in chairs in offices for 4 years need to be recognized too, but in no way are they the same type of vets as our grandparents and parents are!
74. Jeff - November 11, 2009 11:26 PM
like you actually give a shit about our troops fish you liberal bastard
75. Joe Melnick - November 11, 2009 11:34 PM
To the assholes: Yes, the troops fought and died so you could leave ignorant comments on a site dedicated to sideboobs and nip slips. It's called freedom - they can't post comments in Cuba or North Korea even if they want to. And they want to.
We owe them everything we have. A simple 'thank you' will do.
Now fuck off.
76. FDSY - November 11, 2009 11:48 PM
So... I'm American. North. Not... South American, if anyone wanted to know.
I never did anything against anyone. I never hated other countries. I never looked down on other peoples. I never participated in any War Machine.
So I want to know. I'm I ignorant. Because if this what ignorant feels like, i don't it feels like being hungry.
77. debbie - November 11, 2009 11:49 PM
You can hate the war, but not the warrior.
78. FDSY - November 12, 2009 12:00 AM
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
so many errors for the people IN THE previous post.
I have two friends in the army. And they're cool guys. Grew up with them from childhood. I couldn't see them rape and kill innocent people.
But you know who I could see rape and things? Vikings. Yeah.
I don't even know about the war. I feel it should stop, but I'm no expert to make any critical judgment. As I'm sure a bunch of you are. So I won't approach the subject.
There is a lot of people here hating. Teh hate is heavy in my room. I'll open a window to seep out the hate. To make the hate go out. AHHHHHHHHHH
People come to me on the interweb, and be like: YOU'RE A LIBERAL. YOU'RE A REPUBLICAN. I'm a registered Independent. So don't be all up this like you do.
I'm sorry for being me. But I'm not going change. Nether will you. let's just try and get along. I really never comment on this site. SO Im not going to see you again. OHHHHHHH, this fact must be used. Since I will never see you again I could say something controversial. Something edgy.
Can't waste it

That's the first word that came to mind when I saw the banner pic and the post.
Patriotic gayness.
What about all the accountants that put their lves on the line everyday, sorting through people's taxes is hard going. There's no U.S flag waving in their honor. The accountants may not have lost their lives but that's only because they chose a logical and sensible occupation that pays well and you generally don't end up shooting yourslef in the face.
Courageous and heroic acts should only be rewarded when they are performed by someone who did not have to carry out the heroic act, not by someone who can not get a normal job so signs on to be a soldier knowing full fell that one or more of their limbs may not be coming back home to Lafayette with them.
Gay.

Glad to see our troops died for a nation of morons who can't even grasp the basic document our nation was founded on. That's a nice testament to their sacrifice.

Thank you to all the Allied troops who have served in the Middle East. I'm able to heat my house all winter(oil) and drive my 2 thirsty V8 trucks around without a care in the world, at a cheap price. Not to mention continued world oil control for the all important West. We'll suck up every last drop out of the entire middle east, then let the idiots slaughter themselves again, as in the early 90s. All for a measly 2000 dead on Sept. 11... not a bad trade off, hey George W?

My dad sure wasn't a criminal or murderer... but if you say it to my face that he was, instead of hiding behind your keyboard on the interwebs, then I'll become one.
Idiots.

How exactly do you Americans think that your being in Iraq and Afghanistan is contributing to your freedom? Freedom to do what exactly?

Holden Caulfield, ure an idiot, brainwashed retard! What exactly ur dad did there? U ever asked him? Did he ever tell u the truth? U agree all this bloodshed for oil/nothing? U still believe 9/11 was done by Arabs? U still believe that Al Qaida/Ben Laden exists? Poor u and ur parent... Hope u have the fate of those poor ppl and that goes for father too. If he wont blow his own brains when the burden of guilt will become unbearable. And once again, FUCK U, HEROES and FUCK U, FALSE PATRIOTS!

I condemn violence. It seems a pity that mankind wastes humanity in evil wars to secure the property/resources of weaker peoples. I thank the men and women personally for their valor but would have preferred that they served their nation by producing alternate forms of energy, rather than enslaving and butchering middle easterners. I pray that we can evolve to the next level and not resort to apish brutality in the near future.
I doubt it though. Nonetheless Happy Verterans Day!

It's human nature for the powerful to lean on the the weak... this has gone on since man existed. The USA is in a bad, bad financial way, which they cannot get out of by themselves. No natural resources, barely any exports, China produces everything... they are screwed in other words. Oil is the solution for the USA. Control means providing good prices for its oil indulgent countrymen and charging others as it will. Terrorism is just a red herring, as is Al-Qaeda. Like I said, 2000+ deaths on September 11th 2001 is a very small price to pay for the USA, if you factor 20+ years of oil control in a $$ amount. The people running the USA a shameful, soulless individuals...

Is it really? I never heard of that! Frustrated by being still single and not finding your Mr. Right? I know a hot and interesting place for wealthy people and their admirers named Billionairepal.com where I have met my boyfriend. You may take a look.

My husband left for Afghanistan this morning at 8am.. hence the reason I'm sitting in front of the computer right now. This made me feel a little bit better to read. It was a nice reminder as to WHY I wait out these seven long months as patiently as I do... :)

I agree with #91. Anyone who is flaming Americans/the actions of it's soldiers.. I'll go ahead and tell you this, because someone needs to be truly honest. No one gives a fuck about you and your lame ass pessimistic outlook. This is supposed to be a memorial for our veterans, whether it is celebrated elsewhere too is irrelevant. Do you think about the American soldiers that died on the day you celebrate your war veterans? If you say yes, you're lying. Also, to the people talking about some of the things some American soldiers has done.. seems you were never taught proper manners, but taught how to stereotype.. good for you!
