I've gone for a decade without TV - and only recently my wife got an HD antenna (it works very well - and we've returned to the days of free broadcast TV). And inevitably she has this crap on.

These kids don't "sing" on American Idol. They scream. It all sounds like screaming to me. I'm truly impressed with their lung power, and the stamina of their vocal chords. But what is so entertainng about someone yelling their way up and down (often rapidly) the scale? Someone help me out here.

I'm a semi-pro singer, thyself, and only if we could see someone blow 'em all off the stage with true talent. 90% of all those who compete in American Idol try to mock someone elses voice. Also, any trained singer knows you DON'T roll your eyes back, lean your head as far back as possible for high notes, and look as if you're screaming with your mouth WIDE OPEN like Adam/Adammette just sucked you dry. Please notice a true pro keeps their chin down no matter whether it's a high note or not. Adam/Adammette is a broadway singer and has limited talent, people will get tired of him screeching for 20 minutes at the end of EACH and EVERY song he/she does.
