Feb 5 2009Ashley Judd & Sarah Palin have cat-fight over wolves. Next to an iguana. (Last part might not have happened.)
While I personally believe as an American I have the Zeus-given right to harpoon zebras from a hovercraft (Don't judge me.), Ashley Judd is taking on Governor Sarah Palin for allowing Alaskans to hunt wolves from planes, according to EyeOnPalin.org:
"I am outraged by Sarah Palin's promotion of this cruel, unscientific and senseless practice which has no place in modern America," commented Ms. Judd. "Because she is apparently determined to continue and expand this horrific program, I am grateful that Defenders will aggressively fight to stop her. I am proud to be a part of that effort."
Not one to back down from a challenge, Sarah Palin issued the following statement on Alaska's state website:
“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can’t be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.
“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times.”
And, dammit, I can't believe I'm saying this, but Sarah Palin is right. How dare Ashley Judd ask for a donation during these trying times of financial foes? Seriously, who does that? Downright despicable.

Ashley Judd is just jealous of Palin's tits. Another Hollywood elitist spouting off on the "cause of the week" that they know nothing about. Fucking treehuggers. Judd got naked in a movie recently called "Bugs" and is truly disgusting looking, she should be worried that no one mistakes her for a beached whale and tosses her back into the ocean....
12. buckeyedg - February 5, 2009 2:14 PM
I'm no supporter of Palin, but the website thats linked here for donations is also an "extreme fringe group" of supporters for the governors cause that are just seeking money to promote her on their own. It is not from the governor herself, or from her staff...
Personally I hope she does raise enough funds to run in 2012... Most entertaining TV interviews i've seen in years..
P.S. Would still hit it... Judd too

Sarah's so understanding of the plight of the common man! They can't afford to make contributions to environmental causes because, in her words, "they caint, you know, like just expense-account everything out, like the pro-American taxpayers of Alaska want me to do! I think I'll spend the night at home in Wasilla - hey, Suzy, write up one of them government-travel vouchers! Yes, of course, with the hotel stipend, I'm stayin' overnight aint I? Geez!"

Wolves tore out the throat of one of my school mates in Alberta.
They chased him, tired him out, then ripped off half of him while he was still alive.
what about all the senseless murder the wolves commit?
Who will save the snow bunnies?
Fuck, people, animals are animals. Until Judd here start shunning every single product that uses animals, why care?
This is the type of bullshit I expect from PETA
15. Ali Knievel - February 5, 2009 2:19 PM

Did you know Todd Palin's real last name is "Paling"? He changed it because Sarah couldn't say it correctly. And I know why he took up competitive snowmobiling - anything to drown out his wife's voice.

25. Mal - February 5, 2009 2:27 PM
Fuck Palin. Hunting from planes is unsporting and cruel. A good half of the animals die of a heart attack before they can be shot through sheer terror of the noise and unfamiliarity of a plane or helicopter coming down on them (they tend to fly very low for the shots). it's been proven a thousand times over that natural predators do NOT decimate their natural prey population - that is something only humans do. Several studied have shown that hunters kill far more moose and caribou than wolves or other natural predators in the north. Humans hunt for sport from the safety of an airplanes where predators kill only what they need and risk their lives to do it. We waste; they don't.
I'm a fairly conservative person but this is a hot-button issue for me. I'm not against hunting per se, but I am against killing animals for sport, or because they dare to compete with us over what is their natural prey. Alaskans don't live offa fuckin Moose, either.
26. RichPort's Ghost - February 5, 2009 2:29 PM
So the balance of nature, where prey has always vastly outnumbered predator, somehow doesn't exist in the great state of Alaska and, therefore, the prey needs to be protected from the predator? I blame Jesus.
#1 = winner
27. Christina - February 5, 2009 2:29 PM
I couldn't agree more with the first poster on here. Palin wants to protect the moose and caribou populations from those damn wolves... so she can go and hunt them just for the hell of it. Yeah, that makes sense.
Seriously, has this woman never heard of the food chain? Predators are a part of life. If you're worried about the numbers of moose and caribou, STOP F-CKING KILLING THEM YOURSELF!! You don't have any NEED to as there are plenty of other animals you can eat.
How the hell this woman has any supporters is so beyond me. Of course, I need to be thankful for her simply because of the brilliant Tina Fey skits. Those made life a bit funnier.
28. Conky - February 5, 2009 2:30 PM
Those big bad wolves are really just angry puppies who really just want to be someone's family dog. When they kill people it's because they are mad about the injustice of having to fight all those helicopters.
Hilarious.
Thanks

Hey, what if I don't want to be part of the foodchain in Alaska? Fuck the stupid wolves. They eat people too.
Besides the eyeonpalin.org site claims there were only 878 wolves killed since 2003. That's not even 150 wolves a year. We're supposed to care about a wolf killed every other day, in Alaska, where there are millions more? Fucking retarded.
Stupid hippies.

Again, most of you act like you care about something you really don't. If a wolf came up and ate your dog, or scared your kids playing in the trees, you'd be out there with guns in hand. Certain elements of nature have to be controlled for the greater good. Pretty soon they will start appling this issues to people.

You guys are all idiots. Have any of you morons every been to Alaska? The winters there are HARSH mofo's. The people who live in Alaska rely on moose and caribou to survive - that is what they eat. They implemented this helo-shooting-wolf program because the wolfs are overpopulated. So to answer the #1 asshat's question - yes - they kill the wolves because the wolves kill the caribou/moose. and YES, they are killing the wolves so they can then kill the caribou/moose because THEY HAVE TO EAT TO SURVIVE - you can't grow soy beans and alfalfa in ice, dumbasses. Apparently, the hicks in Alaska place a higher premium on human life than wolf. OH THE HORROR

Wildlife management and the associated practice of culling a herd is a time honored tradition in the American west, including and especially in Alaska. It's no different that deer hunting in Texas excep that it's done from the air.
If you outlawed deer hunting in Texas, you'll wind up with 100K+ starving deer.
Different target in Alaska in that you're protecting a herd from unchecked numbers of predators but the end game is still the same. It's just good policy and those who object to this practice do so from the heart - but not the brain..
Move on..

I'm so happy about the transparency of Biraq Obumma's term in office. So far every one of his cabinet appointee's has been a criminal. And now he only has a 36% approval rating, while only 17% support his "stimulus" plan. Because people are starting to realize that he's just a corrupt Chicago politician with a radical socialist aggenda. Obumma's presidency will go down as the biggest political/government blunder in the history of the USA, right next to the Emancipation Proclamation.
52. AlaskaDem - February 5, 2009 2:55 PM
I'm a lifelong Alaskan who didn't vote for Palin and I don't agree with aerial wolf hunts or trapping as a means of predator control. It's actually been voted on my Alaskans at least three times since I've become a voter and the Alaskan people have voted NO all three of those times to aerial predator control - YET the state, previous administrations, too, not just Palin's, keep reinstating aerial predator control despite the will of the voters.
All that aside, a lot of Alaskans DO rely on wildlife for essential food. Yes, the majority of Alaskans live in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau and have easy access to a grocery store. These people have no need to hunt for sport or subsistance, but many do.
The many thousands of people who live off the grid in the Alaskan bush, meaning you can only get to these communities by tiny bush planes, mostly Alaska Natives rely on hunting for wildlife as being essential to their survival and culture. They have to ship any food items they cannot get from the land by plane to their communities otherwise.
I would invite Ashley Judd and any other celebrity to come visit the remote Alaska bush if they are truly concerned about wildlife in Alaska. They need to make informed decisions before supporting an organization that is likely distorting the facts. I highly doubt anyone in that organization she supports has bothered to visit the Alaskan bush, either.
Their hearts are in the right place, but they, and most Americans, don't understand Alaska (heck, sometimes I don't) and the management of its natural resources.

I fucking live in Alaska. I have walked out my back door before and have seen, with my own eyes, 2 wolves at the back of my property. Let me perfectly clear. WOLVES ARE PREDATORS!!! They kill without disregard! They will kill my livestock, my pets, and even my kids! If any of you saw a serial killer stalking around your house, would you want something done about it? So do we! If you don't agree with killing wolves, then don't kill them when/if they show up in your yard. Me, I care about what happens to my family and my belongings! If you don't live in Alaska, FUCK OFF! Leave us alone and let us get through life the way we always have!
This is nothing more than a left-wing, liberal group trying to tell everyone how they should live their lives. Big surprise there. Everyone should pay attention very soon. If they get theor way, before to long you will not be able to drive down the street without getting taxed!!! Act now!

Let me remind you that she's also spewed nearly a half-dozen children outta that spelunking cave she calls her mangina. That things wider, older, and more used-up than the Alaskan Pipeline.

#65....
1) Palin never said "I can see Russia from my porch"..... Fey did. Get the quote right. She said "I can see Russia from Alaska"
the part of Alaska from which you can actually see Russia, a remote island called Little Diomede located just 2.4 miles from its Russian twin, Big Diomede.
And
2) "Alaskans" are not renting the helicopters, the state gov't does to allow the Moose ad Caribou to survive so that the Alaskan people can survive.
89. jen - February 5, 2009 3:58 PM
What is soo comical about this is the fact that Ashley Judd wants to protect the poor wolves from this inhumane custom. These are defenseless animals being killed for just trying to survive. Meanwhile, a few years back she marched in Washington for the "right to choose." And a direct quote, " I feel so good, I could just go out and have an abortion." Sounds to me like her moral compass is a little screwed up. Get a soul bitch.
90. therush - February 5, 2009 3:59 PM
It's not just planes, it's hunting wolves from snowmobiles. A wolf can outrun a snowmobile for a short while so basically they get chased until they tire and then are shot. How sporting.
And do ignorant people like Palin understand that wolves target sickly and old animals, whereas humans only go after the top animals? So wolves and predators actually increase the overall health of the herd.
This is a hunter talking.

#77 shut your trap. Fine one documented case of wolves killing kids in modern history. ONE. Cuz they don't exist.
And you live in the backwoods of the world where there are predators - that doesn't give you the right to kill them off. NO predator but man kills indiscriminately, but if you're too much of a pussy to deal with them being in the area then move your backwoods ass to the big city where you can deal with urban human predators, who are are a hell of a lot more dangerous and it's illegal to shoot them. Until then, shut the fuck up and go back to stalking moose for a living. And keep your chihuahua indoors...if I were a wolf I'd see that as a tasty snack as well.

Where is your proof of this? That really makes no sense...... so if a wolf was starving and there was a healthy rabbit standing next to it, then the wolf would shrug its shoulders and look elsewhere? You're an idiot! FTW
94. RichPort's Ghost - February 5, 2009 4:06 PM
If we cull the wolves, who will vote for Palin's re-election..?
95. Mal - February 5, 2009 4:07 PM
I'd like to add that any area in Alaska where people actually DO have to hunt to survive is so sparsely populated that predator competition is not an issue. This isn't the population of Los Angeles needing to feed their families, it's a couple thousand (if that?) people who choose to live in extremely harsh country and who by and large are NOT airplane owners nor renters. The Alaskan Government makes a metric fuckton of cash off of hunting licenses, and the people who rent these planes to shoot wolves and other animals are trophy hunters who pay a ton of money to do so. It has nothing to do with any population problem; it's all money and politics.
If you can't handle the wildlife, move the fuck off the tundra!

Do some reading. Survival of the fittest is one of the most basic concepts of biology in general. The slow, old, diseased and weakened animals in a herd are the easiest to separate from the whole and the lowest physical risk to the predators to take down. They aren't going to waste the energy to run to the front of the herd and take down the biggest, strongest animal that is most likely to injure them in the process..they run the herd until one falls behind the rest. As for proof, christ watch nature shows once in awhile. Read a book. Check the internet. Read any of the millions of books on the subject. Go sit your fat ass on the couch and hunt potato chip crumbs outta your navel while watching PBS. Whatever. It's not new news, you're just ignorant of the facts and are applying human logic to a non human situation.
97. Jazmine - February 5, 2009 4:14 PM
"They eat to survive" Really, you mean they can afford $2,000 per hour for a helicopter but they can't afford to buy food? That is the kind of idiotic argument one would expect from Sarah "I can see Russia from my porch" Palin.

What happens when the wolves destroy a breed of animals? There will always be a slowest of the herd, until the last one is caught. Then what? Why not control the population? That's what you tree-huggers want to keep the precious rainforest for.... some stupid ass monkeys, like the one you voted in as president. But because you don't like Palin you think that this a cause that matters to you. She didn't invent the idea of preservation, she didn't even start this practice in Alaska, but you make he out tbe some horrendous person........ go jack off to your monkey prez and spurt out some more babies so that you can live off my tax money.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH PALIN HERE! She sounds funny and isn't the best speaker, but when you get to the core of her politics THEN SHE IS SMARTER THAN ALL THE DUMBFUCKS in Washington. What do you people know about Palin? She wants small government and freedom for the people. So what if she doesn't go on about global warming. LOOK AT THE REASONS = TAX REVENUE> A CARBON TAX? The UK passed a carbon tax wich tripled the price of fuel and hasn't done a single thing to help the environment.
Alaskans are the free-est people in America and are VERY HAPPY WITH PALIN! IN FACT SHE HAS THE HIGHEST APPROVAL RATING OF ANY GOVERNOR IN THE COUNTRY! She stood behind McCain and all of his liberal democrat (big government) philosophy when she was called to do so. BUT IF YOU ARE EDUCATED IN POLITICS then she represents a free society that is not impeded in its ability to create wealth.

I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola
C-O-L-A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a DARK BROWN voice she said Lola
L-O-L-A Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said little boy won't you come home with me
Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Well I looked at her and she at me
Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I'll always want it to be that way for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'd left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said little boy I'm gonna make you a man
Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and IN BED I'm a man
And so is Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
109. Rossco - February 5, 2009 5:09 PM
You're an ass-hat if you support the aerial slaughter of wolves. Sarah Palin is either ignorant or just malicious, because science does NOT agree with her practices. Hunters target the most healthy, virile animals in their prime, while predators target the old, weak, crippled, etc. Wolves promote a healthy prey population, while hunters promote the opposite. Evolution in reverse... (Well, that's taking evolution as meaning progressing towards better, which in the strictest sense that's not the meaning, but you get my drift)
http://www.eyeonpalin.org/
110. Bobalouie - February 5, 2009 5:16 PM
In Alaska, it is illegal to shoot a wolf with a .22-caliber rifle because wolves are classified as big game.[45] The state predator control program includes aerial shooting. In 2007 state biologists' goal was to have volunteer hunters kill 407 to 680 wolves by the time the predator-control season ended April 30, but high fuel prices and poor flying conditions kept hunters from meeting that goal. A subsidy of $150 per wolf offered by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game was overturned by a judge on the grounds that only the Board of Game had the power to offer bounties.[46] Despite relatively heavy hunting and trapping over the last century in Alaska, wolves occur on nearly all of their traditional habitat throughout mainland Alaska.[47] Alaska currently has five wolf control programs that comprise about 9.4% of the state's land area. A closely controlled permit system is used in allowing aerial or airborne methods to remove wolves in designated areas. Wolf numbers are temporarily reduced in these areas, but are not permanently eliminated from any area.[48] Wolf populations in North America commonly sustain annual harvests or natural mortality rates of 20-40% without experiencing a year-to year decline in numbers.[47]
An estimated 15% of Canada and Alaska's wolf population of 6,000-7,000 is harvested annually. Ontario ceased its wolf bounty system in 1972, though retaining a year round open season for wolves.
-so science (i.e. state biologists) does support it
-Occurs in less than 10% of the state
-Still didn't get the quota science recommended
Whats the problem?

Funny, I grew up on a farm and came face to face with wolves, bears and even cougars who were looking for food, yet not a single one of them bothered myself, my brother, nor any of the dogs, cats, horses that we had. Other than the occassional chikin' that went m.i.a. we all lived happily ever after.
Note: Except for the cougars - - the cougars were actually let free to "roam about in farming county " in order to control the deer popluation, but all of them (plus their offspring) were promply shot dead when they started attacking cows. Gee I wonder why the cougars started feeding on those baby cows to begin with? Maybe cuz they were easier to catch than those pesky quick-footed deer...? Or maybe it was b/c those cougars were thrown into a habitat they would not have naturally been born into... hmmm...

Wolves have *never* destroyed a breed of animal. Neither has any predator ever in history that I'm aware of unless it was *introduced by man* and not natural to the environment. Species, left to their own devices, die off for many reasons, but none of them are just because their predator ate too fucking much. FAR greater are the problems caused by overpopulation of prey animals, as most people who live with states where deer have no predators will tell you. Nature has it's own balance, we just like to fuck it up for cash.
I didn't actually vote, I rarely do. I also don't have or want kids, lol. But thanks. I think Palin is a moron but this cause of mine goes back about 20 years (air hunting of wolves, specifically) and she's just the latest one to espouse something senseless and inhumane.
You lose the debate by default because you resorted to making racist comments (for no reason...had nothing to do with the subject matter) and trying to insult me in ways that are entirely inaccurate (aside from the fact that your response is illogical and moronic, but you know). Next you will call me fat (having never seen me) or somehow compare me to Hitler (because that is always the End of the Internet).
Fail.
125. lindsey - February 5, 2009 6:58 PM
so do you think its better that they are half dead? i agree there should be a way to cut down the population if its nessasary (attacking people, too many there isnt enough food) but shooting them from a distance and then flying off letting the animal drag its body around until it dies doesnt make it right. thats like trapping animals, letting them bleed to death.
126. Kodos - February 5, 2009 7:12 PM

Watch the discovery channel or animal planet for a night, i bet my balls you'll see what I'm saying. Of course the wolves would go after the bunny, but nobody wants to shoot bunnies from a god damn plane. If a pack has a choice between a strong healthy buck in it's prime that could easily maim or kill members of the pack (you know, the kind hunters go after) or a weak sick old cow that will probably collapse just from the chase, which do you think they'll go after? Then came Troopergate, and her rating started to sink to the mid-60's. But the McCain Machine sort of ignored that dip in the Dip's rating - your "most popular gov'ner ever" statement''s gone waaay past its August '08 expiration date.

And let's not even talk about sport hunting. Where's the outrage there, celebs? This is selective outrage, nothing more, and this celebrity obsessed nation eats it up while the important stuff goes overlooked.
140. AlaskaDem - February 6, 2009 2:43 AM
#77 You make me very, very sad to be an Alaskan.
Yes, wolves are predators, but for cryin' out loud they don't hunt humans. The only reason they were likely in your "back yard" is because you either leave huge bags of stinking trash on your back porch or you leave your dog chained up in the yard with a huge bowl of dog food as bait - either or, it's easy pickings for the wolves.
Wolves are terrified of humans and would never approach a human unless threatened or truly starving. If you are that terrified of wildlife, you need to get out of Alaska as fast as you can because you don't belong here.

There is a good reason for thinning the number of wolves! Over population of wolves and they start migrating to the towns-plus lead to diseases. # 137 Just because the voices in your head keep telling you something doesn't mean it's true.
Priceless

I am thrilled that Sara Palin has quit. She is NOT letting nature take its course concerning the control of wildlife, which includes protecting wolves. If you have done any research, unbiased research, you will find that wolves only kill to eat. Apart from this, this story, this total pretext of how the Alaskans need to campaign against this majestic creature for food, is poppycock, a lie, and a travesty. The original habitats of where you live today, Native Americans, never had to do this. There was always enough for everyone, both animal, mammal, and human alike. I am an American, and ashamed to be associated with those of you who not only are a genuine disgrace to our country, but to the human race as well. Leave these animals alone! YOU are the predators, and heartless at that.
