Actually, McCain didn't want Palin at all. He wanted Joe Lieberman. Basically, the Republican National Committee told McCain that if he picked Lieberman as his VP, they'd put their money into congressional races and give up the presidential race for dead. He thought Tim Pawlenty (Gov, Minnesota) was too boring (he's not, he's just solid and very seldom makes mistakes) and thought that Palin would get both the Republican base and the vindictive Hillary voters. It was classic McCain - he's good when he's excited about something and very focused, and he's impulsive and self-destructive when he can't do what he wants to do (pick his best friend, Lieberman). As president he'd be blocked by the Democratic congress most of the time from doing what he wants to do, so he'd be an erratic leader prone to throwing bombs at his own government just to shake things up, like vetoing a critical funding bill just to piss people off. The irony is that as the much older and much more experienced candidate, he's been prone to childish fits of anger his whole life and he's shown that during the campaign, thereby nullifying his greatest advantage over Obama. He richly deserves to lose this election.

It is amusing how wanting to help Americans is now called socialism. We have programs to help the poor get back on their feet by providing training for jobs and childcare while they attend school. Obama's tax break plan would give middle class Americans a 1,000 tax break which means they can purchase the required lap top for school for their child or buy a washer, so they do not have to hand wash their clothes. I do volunteer work at a food bank and it breaks my heart to see all these middle class people living in hard times. They could sure use the 1,000 tax break.

I too struggled and worked very hard to get where I am today. I made 259,000 last year from my successful software business. I have no problem getting taxed more because I can afford it and I don't need to spend my money on extravagant items like a Rolex watch. I use to work 60 plus hours a week when I worked for other people that did not know how to plan a software product. Now I work 40 hours a week and have time to do volunteer work for an out reach program for pre-teens. The world will always need humanitarians to help the less fortunate. We need to keep America strong by helping others in need.

In return we had to go to war, get shot at, leave our families for months or years, make far less than we would have in the civilian work force and we volunteered for it. So while we did use gov money, we also paid into it. It wasn't given to us for free.

The military does not pay into their GI benefits like a 401K plan. It is the tax payers money that funds the GI bill.

I joined the military because I wanted to use the GI Bill to help me become a doctor. I had no intention of ever fighting in a war. After all, I thought the US learned from Vietnam. Imagine my surprise when I was shipped to Iraq to fight a war I did not believe in. I got blown up by a bomb and now my face is severely disfigured and I have minimum use of my hands. I will never ever be able to have the chance to study to be a doctor because I also suffer from daily painful headaches. My fiance dumped me and I cannot blame her. I take it that you're not a french canadian then. Sure we speak french but our accent differs greatly from the French's. As much as your english would differ from a texan's.
