Taxes goes to infrastructure and many other social programs that people need. Taxes may also be used in many things we don't approve of, like the war in Iraq. But, instead of doing something illegal, how about doing things the legal way (albeit this requires getting up off the couch), getting a bunch of people together and protesting what you feel is unjust. With her money she would have no problem advertising the event. But, I suppose this method is too difficult for individuals like her.

If people of the same sex can get married, then a man should be able to legally marry his daughter if they're both consenting adults. A brother should be allowed to marry his sister. I feel sory for the homosexual community in USA. Proposition 8 is pure ignorance. No one chooses being gay. No one chooses being straight. You don't wake up one day and 'decide' to fuck men or women You just don't decide. All you self-proclaimed 'normal' people just miss the fact that you never ever decided which gender to be attracted to. You grew up and developed unconsciously a certain attraction to men or women or both, regardless your own gender.

Prop 8 should never have even come to a vote. Segregation was declared unconstitutional decades ago. Discriminating against sexual orientation is just the same as discriminating about race.

Gay marriage (for or against) is not a legislative matter, it's a judicial one. The courts should have upheld the rights of gays to marriage as within the already established laws.

I think Ms. Etheridge has forgotten that the citizens of California had already voted to ban gay marriage, prior to four judges deciding that their opinions were more important that those millions of Californians with whom they disagreed. The public simply voted to return to the original decision. Democracy does not survive in a society where a few judges can override the will of the people.

Well we will see what President Obama has to say about that, since he's going to tax these rich people up their asses.

Civil rights is not something that comes over night. It takes MANY years of sacrifice, doing without and hard work. Just ask Martin Luther King. As a side note I voted against prop 22 back in 2000. What changed me to vote in favor of prop 8 this year was the judges ignoring what the people of California vote for. perhaps the faster road to equality is to separate marriage and state, allow government to acknowledge only civil unions regardless of sex, and have marriage be a word which is distributed by communities or declared by lovers like the word love itself. Dude, marriage just isn't something that applies to homosexuals, and never has been throughout history. Even the gayest societies like Ancient Greece ('specially Sparta,) were down with teh gay but never considered gay marriage.

It's not a question of civil rights or equality. Marriage is a social institution, and as such a society has every right to decide to whom it will grant it. I'm no homophobe, so please don't bother with any accusations of bigotry, but the fact is that homosexuality is in fact an abnormality (and I use the term as free of stigma as it can be,) because physiologically WE'RE NOT DESIGNED FOR IT. The essence of Prop 8 is equality. But the vote was approximately 50/50 with the proponents of the ballot question winning narrowly. If we use this as a barometer for the country, we see this is a divise issue, one that people feel strongly about.

Hence, a compromise is in order:; Civil unions laws should be enacted in CA to grant same sex couples AND hetersexual couples WITH no religious affiliation alll the rights of married people. Going forward, those straight people who want their committment to each other to be recognized by God will be married. All others (gay & straight couples) will have the same rights under a civil union.

The slippery slope that most opponents of Prop 8 fear is 1. based on their religion and 2. knowing that supporters of same-sex "marriage" will not stop at that. They (gays) will next want to have all TV commercials include gay couples; all public schools teaching classes on being gay, etc. and everything marketed from a 50/50 perpsective,with an eventual goal of the disintegration of all religion. They want control and that is not fair to the other side.

Someone has already pointed out that this argument was put forth and subsequently shot down during the debate on interracial marriage.

Now, lets hypothesise a 'what if' situation: What if the people of your state voted by a narrow margin that marriage be defined as between two people of the same sex? Would you as a heterosexual then be content that you had the same right as everyone else to enter into a same-sex union? Of course not!

To the dude who is all worked up about Etheridge substituting "one" for "man" in a Janis Joplin song - the beautiful irony here is that it is pretty well accepted that Janis was a bisexual woman - and a rather promiscuous one at that.
