Nov 8 2008Beyonce wants to play Wonder Woman
Hollywood has been trying to get a Wonder Woman movie off the ground for years with several actress linked to the role: Jessica Biel, Katie Holmes, Lost's Evangeline Lilly. Now there's a new contender for the role: Beyonce - who obviously forgot about Halle Berry's Catwoman which turned out so awesome. The LA Times reports:
"I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was sooo fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy.
Now I have to do an action film. It's like dancing and choreography. And the superhero movies now, they're not corny, not corny at all, so that's what I want to do. And I would love if it could be Wonder Woman."
While my initial reaction to a black Wonder Woman mirrors that of a black James Bond, I'm going to be flexible on this one. Only because the most recent incarnation of Wonder Woman was Kim Kardashian's cellulite-hiding Halloween costume. I don't want to say she's opened the door for other celebs whose asses have no business being crammed into Lycra, but would it hurt to let Beyonce try on the costume? Then maybe wrestle Kim? You know, as a beacon of how far we've come as a nation.

You think Beyonce's ass is smaller than Kardashian's. If so, you're crazy...
6. Lukus - November 8, 2008 1:34 PM
Her hair and weave doesn't blend very well.
7. Bene - November 8, 2008 1:39 PM
if she'd star Wonder Woman the studio would make her as black as in the L'Oréal campaign
8. meh - November 8, 2008 1:41 PM
Why is that so radical? Eartha Kitt was Catwoman. Why is a black Catwoman acceptable but not a black Wonderwoman?
9. Tim - November 8, 2008 1:53 PM
call me racist if you want but I don't think she has the right skin color. Wonder Woman was white. Lets not forget the Catwoman fiasco from a few years back.
10. Warner Brothers - November 8, 2008 2:05 PM
Is she f'n serious? What the F? Not enough that a Darkie is gonna be Prez, give 'em an inch and they want a mile. Wonder Wonder is white and does not need to be "re-imagined"

17. CaptainMorgan - November 8, 2008 3:08 PM
We all saw how she did in Goldmember...action, comedy, blank stares, monotone delivery and big hair. She can't sing and she can't act. Sorry, babe. Shut up and go get me a sandwich...and this time don't eat it!!
18. Mark - November 8, 2008 3:10 PM
Wow, that's pretty damn racist.
Typical liberal. You celebrate how great it was a black man was elected president, and then compare Beyonce to Halley Berry because they're both half-black females? Despicable. I bet when people accuse of being racist you say "I have lots of black friends."
19. Jesse - November 8, 2008 3:26 PM
it's not racist. it just odd to hear at first. imagine B.D. Wong as clint eastwood's role in "the good, the bady, & the ugly" or Ben Affleck in a remake of Shaft. you wouldn't have a wtf moment?
20. Sauron - November 8, 2008 3:34 PM
To cut the cost they should put the black James Bond and black Wonder Woman together in one movie.
21. pat - November 8, 2008 3:35 PM
The Amazons were a mythical race - no reason why they couldn't be black. I do think you'd want a good actress to play Wonder Woman - which would disqualify Beyonce. You need good actors, and a good script, and good effects, to make money in a superhero film nowadays.
22. Sport - November 8, 2008 3:37 PM
Someone tell her being famous doesn't make you an actress. Oh she wants to be Wonder Woman lets get Lorne Michaels to make some shitty SNL skit into a Wonder Woman feature film featuring Beyonce.
23. Dara - November 8, 2008 3:39 PM
Why is it so unacceptable and out of the norm for a black woman to play an originally white character? Due to the apparent racial progression in the U.S., I hope you realize that the character of Wonder Woman is not specific to one race--anyone of any color could play that part as it is a character where none of her actions have to do with being white. So, please, if you are going to continue to make ignorant comments, let me know, so I won't have to be subjected to it.
24. frankinfish - November 8, 2008 3:42 PM
Oh for Fuck sake.... now we're going make every white superhero black just for the hell of it? WTF?!
Sure make strong roles for african americans but don't change established characters race Just because..... jeez... this is ridiculous
25. pat - November 8, 2008 3:42 PM
Dara,
FYI, Thesuperficial.com is a motherlode of ignorant and intolerant comments.
26. MrChips - November 8, 2008 3:44 PM
Did she take a hit off the crack pipe before plunging into that train of non sequiturs? She's too stupid to live.
BTW, agree with the Lindsay Lohan as WW comment.
27. JungleRed - November 8, 2008 4:21 PM
23: Well Dara if we're going there, none of her actions have to do with being a man or woman either. There's no reason Denzel couldn't play her.
My vote's for Michael Jackson, though.
28. JSTFU - November 8, 2008 4:47 PM
@16. There has never been a Wonder Woman movie, so a movie about Wonder Woman would be original. But then again, you're probably going to go see "Twilight" opening night.
AND as for Beyonce playing WW? Two words......NO, and HELL NO.
29. Jamie's Uterus - November 8, 2008 4:49 PM
Beyonce is one of the worst actresses, ever. She cannot deliver a line with any emotion, complete monotone. Besides her ass would require too much spandex, which would put the film over budget easily.
In 'Dream Girls', she totally sucked, and that was one of the best parts to have, next to Jennifer Hudson's role.
This part is really meant for Eliza Dushku. (from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Tru Calling).
30. dragon43078 - November 8, 2008 4:54 PM
I like looking at Beyonce, but she can not act. Its that simple.
31. deva - November 8, 2008 5:27 PM
Wonder Woman is NOT black, James Bond is NOT black, Col. Nick Fury is NOT black, and Shaft is NOT white. Get it you fucking morons?
Just because we have a black president now doesn't give "these people" the right to invade the color schemes these characters were originally given.
They should stick to rap and crack and leave the moviemaking to the real artists. I mean I don't get all up in their shit and tell them how to pound 40's, slam a basketball or rape women do I?
32. ivan - November 8, 2008 5:33 PM
Ummmmmm...wasn't Wonder Woman really, really WHITE?
I think those pubes on her head have become in-grown and are cutting off the oxygen to that pea-brain of hers.

Yup. I knew there had to be at least one pulling the race card.
37. deva - November 8, 2008 5:59 PM
Riiiiiggggghhhht. It's racist to point things out like characters who have always been white. I disagree with gay marriage too. Does that make me a homophobe?
Or how about that Israel is killing the Palestinians? I guess I'm an anti-semite too.
It's idiots like you that should make it necessary to have a permit to own a computer.
38. CaptainMorgan - November 8, 2008 6:00 PM
If Beyonce (aka "Sasha Fierce") is Wonder Woman, the invisible jet will have to be a C-130 Hercules transport to accomodate her ass and thighs. Maybe the producers could borrow the one from Kim Kardashian?
39. Stu - November 8, 2008 6:22 PM
Reasons Beyonce cannot be Wonder Woman in a successful film that have nothing to do with race:
1. the actress who plays her should actually be able to act
2. the actress who plays her needs to be beautiful
3. the actress who plays her would have to believably run on film
...whereas Beyonce is an awful actress, fug, and a flabby tub o' shite.
40. Dara - November 8, 2008 6:38 PM
To junglered: being that the character of wonder woman is a woman as her name is wonder WOMAN your little argument that a man could play that part is superfluous. Also, to the rest the ignorant commentators, if you think for one second that you are in the right by thinking it is okay to rule out certain races from a role if the original actor or actress in that role is a different race, then you need to educate yourself on what constitutes racism; if the role has nothing to do with the race of the character, then it is pure discrimination to say someone who is black, hispanic, asian or any other race couldn't play that role just as well if not better than someone who is white. Thinking beyond movies, if you believe that anyone holding a position in any institution in society has to be of the same race of the person who orginally held that position, then Barack Obama wouldn't be president elect much less any other person of color holding any type of high position in society as the original holders of these positions were white. But, luckily, as this election has shown, most of the U.S. believes that someone's ability to perform a job is not reliant on their race. So if you want to continue to perpetuate ignorance by accepting and supporting discrimination, then go ahead, that's your choice, but I hope you realize that by doing that you will be stunting the moral progression of not only yourself but of this country in total. As a side note, beyonce is not of bi racial and you cannot say she wouldn't be able to play a good Wonder Woman if Halle Berry didn't play a good Catwoman because not all people of color act the same way--they are different people with different strengths and weaknesses, they just happen to have similar skin tones.

44. Realist - November 8, 2008 6:59 PM
# 31 Deva, you're a moron. I'm quite sure that it never said 'white' next to these characters in the script. Wonder Woman can't be fat, though. She better get back on her lemon water fast. She looked good in Dreamgirls. Or maybe get her ass to the gym and do it the right way this time.
And she doesn't necessarily need to act either. Matrix had Keanu Reeves in it and was still great.
45. britney's weave - November 8, 2008 7:17 PM
@ 28 quit being a nazi with your opinion. if i don't think making new movies about old tv shows is original, i will write it and you can suck a fat one. and wtf is twilight?
46. retro_seventies - November 8, 2008 7:19 PM
Don't wanna be a dick, but SERIOUSLY?
NO.
Just no.
Is Superman Asian? Is the Hulk blue? Was Captain America an Arab? C'mon man... If she wants to be a superhero, there are plenty out there - just play one that's appropriate, mmmmkay?
47. GinaRae - November 8, 2008 7:29 PM
Uhh no. Research the character of Woman Woman's origin and there's no way she can be black. I don't think Bond should be black either. (And I'm black saying all this). I'm getting a bitt peeved at other black people who think just because we have a partial african american president that suddenly every role or character should automatically be converted from what their original identity was. B can't act anyway, she sounds like a reject from Flavor of Love. Create your own damn character but stop with all the over indulgent self promotion and assumption that your skin color now gives you ever greater priveledge.
48. woodhorse - November 8, 2008 7:39 PM
Well they kept making Cleopatra white and she never was............... I want to see a remake with Halle Berry as Cleopatra. And while we're at it, somebody lose the blonde Jesus. JESUS! Unless he used Miss Clairol, he didn't have blonde hair.
If I think of some more anomalies , I will announce them later. I know you are all waiting with baited breath. Please use mouthwash and I will get back to you.
49. Realist - November 8, 2008 8:44 PM
GinaRae, there are some oles that need to be played by white people. Some by blacks. Wonder Woman's neither. There's nothing intrinsic to this FICTIONAL character that requires a particular race or ethnicity. She could be white, black, green, orange. whatever. How bout orange? That opens the door for lots of Hollywood starlets.
50. Doris the maid - November 8, 2008 8:56 PM
WTF? Wonder Woman needs to be tall! You know, 5'9 or something.
51. Balls McCoy - November 8, 2008 8:59 PM
I got no problem with Beyoncadunk but one thing's for shizzle, whenever Hollywood tries to push a tired old concept they always cast a black lead.

Porch Monkeys can't be superhero's. Maybe she could be Super Food-Stamp Woman.
53. Osama bin Obama - November 8, 2008 9:06 PM

54. dick clark - November 8, 2008 9:21 PM
im not racist but just because we have a black president doesnt mean we can magically alter the reality of who these characters are and end up living in a family matters style world where all the shows cast only black people...serious you are black wonder women is white....jesus
55. jonny monstikio - November 8, 2008 11:06 PM
I don't care what color they want to make her, but Wonder Woman had calves.....so, sorry Beyonce
56. dew - November 8, 2008 11:59 PM
I watched the Pink Panther remake -- OMG Beyonce was dreadful in it. All she can do is pose, and try to make seductive poses, and her voice is artificial like a tranny. If Beyonce wants to act, take a lot of acting lessons and quit doing glam roles.
As far as Wonder Woman and race. Diana Prince was drawn as a caucasian, and also played as a caucasian by Lynda Carter. It would be retarded as all get out to have any other race play the role of Diana Prince.
Now if Diana Prince had a baby, or a niece from Paradise Island -- where the Amazons lived -- then get a woman of any race or mix that can act, and kick some butt too. Jennifer Garner is too pregnant, plus she's already another caucasian super-hero, but if an actress can't go up against Jennifer, AND act, then I won't pay to watch the movie. Weren't there any black or mix slayers from Buffy? I'd much rather watch them play as Diana Prince's daughter or niece than poser Beyonce, unless Beyonce took serious acting lessons, and martial arts (which would hopefully reduce her backside).
57. Leroy LeMonjello - November 9, 2008 12:08 AM

60. sami - November 9, 2008 1:27 AM
For all those fuckin idiots out there Lynda Carter was half mexican half white caucasian. Don't be a bunch of racist assholes with racist comments like that moron deva. Sure Beyonce would probably suck but make comments on her ability to act. Don't make comments on the fact that shes black. There are great black actresses out there. THE END.
61. JSTFU - November 9, 2008 1:49 AM
@45.....lmao. I must've struck a nerve.
It was a comic book before it was a tv show......just like most films were books before they were movies. So, by your thinking, nothing is original. Much like your insult.
Like you don't know what Twilight is. Nice try.
Also, WW should probably be Mediterranean. The Amazons in the comic worship Greek Gods. Where is Greece again? Monica Bellucci would have been perfect 10 to 15 years ago.
Oh well.

There's no rule that classic character can't change races, but here's the issue with it: NO ON WANTS TO SEE IT. I want to see characters represented the way I know them. If not, why not just make a movie about a black chick with superpowers. Nick fury will work okay for me because they have been drawing him to look like Sam Jackson for a few years now. Wonder Woman, not so much. Give me someone Catherine Zeta Jones-like.

Yea, honestly Megan Fox would make a fantastic WW and Brian Austin Greene could play Steve Trevor (if that role is going to be part of script)
But if Megan Fox is unavailable, Katie Price is an acceptable substitute.

72. SueMe - November 9, 2008 12:10 PM
I just want to clarify something #10. Obama isn't dark, and nor is Beyonce. Try and think outside of the box, and try not to base shades or colors around the white race. Have you ever sat back and though that maybe it's not that they're are dark, but that you are just a light bright? The term for Obama and Beyonce would be "colorful" You wouldn't call an article of clothig that's around their skin tone dark would you? I just needed to point that out, because individuals like you #10 are brainwashed. You look at your fair face in the mirror so that makes everyone else who is more colorful dark to you I bet. Not that this matters more than everyone's racist comments, but what the HEEEE! there will always be these kind of comments...who even cares anymore? Just get the dark thing straight. Alec Wek would be considered dark.
73. SueMe - November 9, 2008 12:28 PM
#10 also btw I know that we may have conflicting opinions on this subject, and please excuse my errors in the last post. Anyhow, even in a white world Beyonce and Obama are not dark, and even if they were they are entitled to the things they work hard for. Who cares what color wonder woman is, or what color the President elect is. Get over yourself, and recognize people for who they are and not WHAT they are.
74. Smart Person - November 9, 2008 2:15 PM

pffft, wonder woman, who cares? it'll fail epicly and we know it already. could we please focus on the real issue: WHAT WAS SHE WEARING AT THE EMAS????
76. al riezgo - November 9, 2008 3:01 PM
No issues with a black wonder woman at all...but she's a really shitty actress, so i hope that her chances are slim. She WOULD look hot in that costume though...it's that part where words come out of her mouth in a very unbelievable way that gets me. Just remember her in Austin powers. No Oscar winning script, but she made it THAT much worse.
77. wwwukeruker - November 9, 2008 3:54 PM
NO!! NO!!! NO!!!!
Wonder Woman is not only White, She's a Pagan Amazon Princess Diana who
s family includes well-known figures from Greek mythology. Beyonce does not allow the 'Goddess' within her to shine with all the usual Black Christian fundamentalist BS.
As for Halle Berry's Catwoman that was unfair to make the movie before waiting until the most successful Batman because as a villainess, her character could not stand alone without the Caped Crusader. She made a crucial mistake by saying she wanted no part in the sequel and should have moved quickly after Bale's first success to lock down any future appearance as Catwoman in the franchise. It was a noble attempt but again, Catwoman is a parttime villainess not a main character.
Back to Beyonce. I love her but too many Blacks bring this Christian fundamentalism to bare and she has allowed her archaic views of female submissiveness in marriage to Jay Z dim her inner light. Look at her last photos, she is so how trying to be a Christian hip hop nun and dutiful gangsta rap Muslim. As a Black Pagan, I have watched how she submerges the ISIS within her so why should she even be considered for Princess Diana the Wonder Woman.
Say true to your Christianity Beyonce and leave the role of the Amazons to those not afraid to allow the APHRODITE and DIANA within them shine.
78. wwwukeruker - November 9, 2008 4:01 PM
To Deva
As you say concerning who's not Black, neither was Sue Storm the Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four whatever Jessica Alba is supposed to be. When Jack Kirby first drew Sue Storm in 1961, he practically predicted the birth of Elisa Cuthbert who was aced out of the trole due to the misplaced fanworship of too many people like you. The rest of the FF were true to the comicbook. So if you have a problem with Blacks playing White fictional characters then be consistent and criticize Alba's pathetic casting as Sue Storm.
Its not her race that makes Beyonce unsuitable for Wonder Woman, its her religious beliefs. Christians would be offended if a known Pagan was casted as Jesus Christ. Beyonce use to be very good at allowing the cameras to capture the Spirit of ISIS within her despite the usual 'God Bless' stuff. Since getting married she is only a shadow of her former self and definitely does not deserve to even be considered for this role based on that.
79. wwwukeruker - November 9, 2008 4:13 PM
Woodhorse
Cleopatra was a Macedonian of the Ptolemaic dynasty. Though they did adapt many native Egyptian customs as was the policy put forth by Alexander the Great, one of them in Egypt was the marriage of siblings or cousins. So that despite their rule of Egypt as Pharaohs, the Ptolemies including all 7 of the Cleopatras were Greek-Macedonians who were the daughters of a royal brother and sister and who in turn married their brother like Cleopatra did her's Ptolemy XIII.
Now if you want to say Nefertiti was Black or Egyptian that is more valid except there is also evidence that she may have been a Hittite or Mitianni princess bethrothed to Amenhotep as a peace agreement and thus was not theprimary wife. If you want to say Tiys was native Egyptian that is even more valid. The Cleopatra's of Egypt were Greek-Macedonians from General Ptolemy.
While euro-centric racist interpretation of history and the conspiracy to eradicate Africans from it is a terrible betrayal of the truth so is the Afro-centric counterpart of making Cleopatra VII Black or Mulatto just because we have come to the realization that the origin of Khamit (Egypt) is indeed a native African civilization that arouse from the south. The Ptolemies ruled Egypt 3000 years after its historical beginnings. And the accounts of Cleopatra's parentage as being obscure are also false as the Ptolemies were quite rigid in keeping their bloodline within the family just as they learned from the Egyptians.
By the way, did you know Alexander the Great's sister was named Cleopatra too and became Queen of Epirus? It was a common name throughout his empire because of that.
80. CharlieBarley - November 10, 2008 12:47 AM
Next up, Will Smith as Batman... Hollywood sure likes to go with the flow.
81. demented - November 10, 2008 2:02 AM
Nope, it just doesn't work for me, mainly cuz Wonder Woman was supposed to be Greek or something like that.
Catwoman and Sue Storm and such characters are fine -- they're not associated with a certain ethnic identity. Wonder Woman IS, and changing that would totally change everything about the character.
Oh, and Beyonce's also a shit actress.
82. Érico - November 10, 2008 5:37 AM
Wanting to be Wonder Woman is just lame. Can't she find anything else?
83. Confused and disgusted by fat pigs - November 10, 2008 6:40 AM
Yeah beyonce (where did this idiotic name come from?) does not look athletic in the least. I would picture wonder woman as tall and athletic. Not a fat ass (sorry, bootyliscious) mulatto.
Sorry she don't cut it and is a whore for thinking she is worthy of the role.
84. FACE - November 10, 2008 8:27 AM
Bringing up the Catwoman movie just because of the color of the skin of the actresses is racist. The punk who runs this site should know that - in fact, I am sure he does. Why not compare to another female superhero movie like Elektra? You dont because that woman was white - the race that superhero chicks are supposed to be, right? Well, Halle Berry is one of the best actresses in the world and if Catwoman was terrible, it certainly wasnt because she was black. Eartha Kitt played Catwoman on the original Batman TV series in a time when there were not that many blacks on TV - and she was a hit. SO explain that you, punk ass racists,
85. Blazing Saddle - November 10, 2008 8:31 AM
Three reasons why this will never work or sell tickets:
1) Wonder woman was and is white (cracker to you).
2) P-Diddy would have to play the part of Superman never in a million).
3) Everybody knows that the brothas have more interest in slinging bullets than stopping them.....
86. The Listener - November 10, 2008 10:20 AM
Main Character superheroes/villains are too famous to be portrayed in any other race than the one in which they are shown in the comic books. For other Supporting Character superheroes/villains the race doesn't matter.
Catwoman--Supporting Character--Race Unimportant
Kingpin--Supporting Character--Race Unimportant
Aurora (Storm)--Main Character--Black
Superman--Main Character--White
Green Lantern--Several Characters--Several Races
WonderWoman--Main Character--White
Fans may not like it very much if the actor is not believable as the character they have grown to love in comic books. And producers and studios take a big chance when they tamper with part of the formula for the success of a comic book hero. And yes, the race of certain characters is part of that formula.

i totally agree WW is white,
but i would still like to bang beyonce like the black bitch she is
88. Don - November 10, 2008 11:52 AM
Beyoncé is hot as hell & I'd love to see her dressed as Wonder Woman. She can even be in the movie! Just not as Diana Prince. WW should be tall and White. Famke Janssen (5'11) or Liv Tyler (5'10). Done deal.

Go back to Africa, Beyonce, and shut the fuck up.

@48 Cleopatra WAS white!!!!! She was Macedonian. maybe you're thinking of Nefertiti? I don't know, but Cleopatra was European thank you very much.

@84...
People did bitch about Elektra played by Jennifer Garner. Elektra is a Greek ninja assassin. She is not caucasian.

So are they going to redo Superman with a black actor next?
How about we redo Roots with Paul Rubens as Kunti Kinti?
Hell Batman is already wearing all black might as well make him played by a black actor...
Better yet thats just reshoot Gone with the Wind or Casablanca with an all black cast...
Then we can open up the WET channel...White Entertainment Channel for all the original/racist versions of moives just for us crackers.
I am also thinking Mr. Bean as Hannibal Lee in the remake of The Tuskegee Airmen...

That BUFF (Butt Ugly Fat Fuck) is just the latest example of the attempted Negrofication of white popular culture.
Somebody buy her a mirror!

Will Smith Said it best when doing promotion for 'Hancock'
"You don't mess with white people's superheros"
EXACTLY! DAMN IT! You either make a movie of a superhero that is Black like Blade, Black Panther, War Machine and storm..... hell even Black Lightning
or you Create One as they did with Hancock!
Wonder Woman should be Caucasian with a Mediterranean complexion since she is Greek. The end. Stop being retarded.

Just because there's a black president doesn't mean there'll be a black Wonder Woman.

Uhm, Wonder Woman was an amazonian princess so I don't think it's really a strecth in the looks department.
So, what on earth is wrong with Beyonce as Wonder Woman?...in a nutshell, she can't act enough to save the part. Good look; terrible casting.

Are you fuckin' blind, dumbass?
Did the comic book character or Lynda Carter look "amazonian" to you?
Wonder Woman never had pubic hair on her head or big ol' mumble-lips.

I am black, i am a woman and I am also happen to love comics and anyone who actually reads comics instead of watching their tv/cartoon or movie incarnations would realize that race is something you just shouldn't fuck with when it comes to comics. Beyonce playing wonder woman is like marky mark playing blade or jackie chan playing spiderman. It doesn't work and it shouldn't be forced. Besides beyonce has a fucking annyoing voice and as cultured as she grew up her voice sounds like homegirl grew up in the ghetto.

In this version Wonder Monkey is gonna fly a stolen plane, and she'll capture villians with her chain of golden foodstamps.
#94 Just like when they made Will Smiff the Black Jim West in "How the West Was Won". In reality, as soon as a porch monkey opened his mouth to the White Man, he would've been enslaved instantly and put on the chain gang where he belongs...

Megan Fox looks like Linda
But Wonder Woman's island was in the Caribbean so, Beyonce could play wonder woman if they got her some acting lessons. The thought of her in the outfit is great - Truth nice body bad actress.
102. saam - November 30, 2008 10:11 AM
i think that the role of wwonderwoman shouldgo to Rena Sofer. not that nasty ugly slut beyonce.
103. eddie - January 9, 2009 1:19 PM
