Oct 13 2008Mark Wahlberg does not enjoy parody
Mark Wahlberg has his panties in a bunch over a Saturday Night Live sketch from last week called "Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals." It features Andy Samberg playing Mark as he introduces himself to barnyard animals. Unfortunately, Marky Mark hated it so much that not only does he never want to host SNL, but he wishes Joe Piscopo was still on it. Whoa! Jesus. Let's not say things we can't take back. The New York Post reports:
"Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure. And "Saturday Night Live" hasn't been funny for a long time. They've asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don't even know who's on the show now."
I embedded the clip after the jump which I thought was funny. Then again, I was suckered into watching Adam Sandler's You Don't Mess with the Zohan this weekend, so right now everything seems hysterical in comparison. I'm pretty sure my own penis could fall off, and I'd giggle like a schoolgirl.

7. UCrawford - October 13, 2008 10:18 AM
It was a good impersonation, he had the voice down, but the skit itself was really terrible. Basically just like the filler they put in the last 10 minutes of the show when they're trying to meet their time limit.

Does anyone still watch SNL? If you are, then count yourself as a loser
20. missywissy - October 13, 2008 10:27 AM
I didn't get it, but then again I don't get much on SNL. I stopped watching, if I can remember correctly, when Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Chris Farley, Phil Hartmen, Dana Carvey- all those guys went away one way or another. Most of the sketches are pretty dry now. I tried watching and the only things I saw before turning was Will Ferrell and Tom Greene sticking their tongues in each other's mouths as eagles, and those two guys doing that stupid college internet web cam thing, and all they could find humor in was smoking reefer. I'm waiting for them to fire all the twelve year old writers, and for actors that can do their lines without waiting for a laugh or looking to the side at their cue cards before I'll watch it again. Mad TV is way funnier than SNL. Although, Tina Fey is the saving grace right now.
21. Huggy Bear - October 13, 2008 10:30 AM
Can't really say why, but when I saw that sketch live, I unhinged my jaw and laughed like a country bumpkin on a moonshine high. Even rewatching it, I think it's funny. C'mon - "So, you like apples? I produce Entourage." That's gold, Jerry!
Not the funniest thing they've ever done, but definitely a recent highlight - I think because of inanity and simplicity.
By the way - watched "The Happening" last night - we could barely get through it because after every Mark Wahlberg line, someone in the room said, "Say hi to your mother for me." Kinda wished I watched it a couple weeks ago...

I passionately hate Andy Samberg, but this clip was funny to me.
I don't know why he'd be upset, they didn't even make fun of him, nobody believes he talks to animals. Dumb.
26. Nick - October 13, 2008 11:19 AM
I guess I'm a loser because I still watch SNL Every week. Of course every skit isn't funny, but there are still some real gems once in a while. I thought the Mark Wahlberg skit was absolutely hilarious for some reason. I have showed it to several friends and they thought it was funny too. Different strokes.

Marky Mark shouldn't be offended, but he was correct when he said it wasn't funny.
34. Goblinkatie - October 13, 2008 11:55 AM
"It wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure."
So it's only funny when other people are mocked? Real classy there, Marky Mark.
Granted the sketch itself wasn't funny at all, but he still needs to flush the sand from vajayjay and get over it.

Mark deserved this after his performance in the happening. He and Zoe made the entire thing excruciating. Quick! Run from the wind.
38. Fred - October 13, 2008 12:16 PM
And he's a fucking Notre Dame fan. what a douchebag.
39. M - October 13, 2008 12:18 PM
Yeah, but Mark Wahlberg laughed really hard when he pelted a group of black kids with rocks and even harder when he got out of prison in under two months after robbing a drug store while high on PCP and punching a Vietnamese man, blinding him in one eye.
40. Anastasia - October 13, 2008 12:40 PM
I love SNL and the current cast, and I thought that skit was damn funny. Marky Mark said he doesn't even watch the show, so how the hell does he know if it's funny or not? douchebag.
41. WTF - October 13, 2008 1:06 PM
Marky Mark is a convicted felon. Didn't he beat someone up and blind them ? And he's not amused at a skit about him. What a tool. Maybe someday someone will do the same to him.
42. Maggie - October 13, 2008 1:12 PM
I didn't really get it. But then, the only way SNL can even get viewers to watch is to pull in old cast members.
43. TheMetaphysical - October 13, 2008 1:19 PM
Wahlberg is a punk.
Guy is worth gazillions but never did anything to compensate a guy he blinded. He is one of the few, that if he got hit by a bus, I would laugh.
From wikipedia
Wahlberg knocked a middle aged Vietnamese man unconscious, left another Vietnamese man permanently blinded in one eye, and attacked a security guard. For these crimes, Wahlberg was charged for attempted murder, pled guilty to assault, and was sentenced to two years in jail at Boston's Deer Island House of Correction, of which he served 45 days.
44. Tim - October 13, 2008 1:28 PM
Reminds me of Frank Caliendo - the impersonation was dead-on, but the skit wasn't funny.
But Wahlberg is beyond dumb. Now SNL has much better material for a new skit, "Mark Wahlberg Doesn't Think That Was Funny." It basically writes itself. I don't know how they could screw it up and make it unfunny, but they probably will.
45. Max D. - October 13, 2008 1:32 PM
Spot on. That's the funniest thing I've seen on SNL since Carrie Fisher hosted. In 1978.
46. HuckyDucky - October 13, 2008 2:04 PM
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I DID like that. Hilarious! That guy takes himself waaaaaaaaayyyyy too seriously. Now it's time to pour it on.
47. friendlyfires - October 13, 2008 2:45 PM
1.) This is why we NEVER invite Mark Wahlberg to cocktail parties, church services, road trips or , outdoors - AT ALL!
No sense of humor.
2.) Bill Maher - where's my Maypo?
48. The Populist - October 13, 2008 2:50 PM
LOL, for some reason I thought it was funny. Don't know why, maybe the way Samberg has the tone and diction down pat and the way he was all serious talking to the animals in that way only Marky Mark knows how.
I hate SNL but I had it on that night in the background and couldn't stop laughing at that one dumb skit.
49. John McCain - October 13, 2008 2:51 PM

54. Insatiable Peter - October 13, 2008 3:46 PM
The sketch is dumb but maybe that's the point. Wahlberg does take himself too seriously. Paul Thomas Anderson gave him a career.

LOL.
how can you not find that funny?
56. Narcissist - October 13, 2008 5:19 PM
That was the first episode I had watched in 2 or 3 years, because of the Palin hype. Although I had watched regularly for over 10 years, the show seems to cycle up and down in quality, and I was barely getting a chuckle a show when I stopped watching.
I thought this Wahlberg skit was a highlight, along with some other skits. It just poked fun at his seriously limited range in a harmless, innocent way. He seems like a bitch baby for whining about it. It would've been more classy for him to just shut up, I think.
I think Wahlberg is an adequate performer in a Steven Seagal kind of way. Just don't have him trying to show emotion or intelligence or anything complicated like that.
Somehow I never heard about the crimes listed above. I'm disgusted. What a pathetic slime.
57. WartyHog - October 13, 2008 5:39 PM
Wahlberg's sense of humor is about as big as his dick.
58. raccoon - October 13, 2008 5:43 PM
I think SNL has completely turned around within the last couple years for the better, this skit was hilarious to me because it was so random! It's not as if Wahlberg talks to animals in real life like that, but thinking about it and seeing it anyways is what makes it funny. Wahlberg takes himself too seriously if he takes offense to this!
(Also, the skit might have something to do with his talking to a plant in The Happening? idk.)
59. Narcissist - October 13, 2008 5:58 PM
"Now I'm gonna talk to a CHICken"...He's got the predictable idiosyncracies down good there.
Some people think the skit pokes fun at The Happening too, where he talks to plants. I can't get the video to play, probably all this Samantha Who clutter is gumming up my computer.

61. emmyem - October 13, 2008 7:16 PM
Oh, yeah, "people who watch SNL are losers". RIIIIIGHT. And SNL has hired comedic actors who HAVE gone on to fame because?????? What, they aren't funny?
Kristin Wiig is hilarious. No, not all skits are funny. No way, but after BEGRUDGEINGLY watching "The Happening" (Run from the wind, that was a funny remark up there), I can see why they did it that skit. I laughed, I just did.
Mark Wahlberg is always the same. And he remembers JOE PISCAPO? Does Joe PISCAPO remember Joe Piscapo?
What a 'tard you are, Wahlberg. And a barely literate punk who lucked into some movies. The end.
62. Joey - October 13, 2008 7:24 PM
I gotta say I agree with him on that one. SNL would go down the drain if it wasn't for Tina Fey. Pretty soon they'll be parodies of SNL if they don't start hiring good writers.
63. lobosolo - October 13, 2008 7:28 PM
if Markey mark was offended at this, imagine how the rest of us feel when we have to watch his horrible acting. this was spot on!!!!
64. Danklin24 - October 13, 2008 7:44 PM
That was fucking retarded? The goat and perfect storm thing was a bit funny but the rest was retarded as hell. Mark is right, SNL sucks. Tina was the last of the funny ones.
65. SlyAndTheFamilyStallone - October 13, 2008 8:06 PM
Yeah I know, SNL has been shit for the awhile, but I've still watched almost every episode ( because there are the occassional moments of genius). This year has been pretty good so far, they have a good cast and I think it may get better. Hopefully SNL enters another good period!
P.S. Fuck Marky Mark and his JC Penny cargo shorts.
66. Wow - October 13, 2008 8:23 PM
It's true, I used to love SNL, but I tried to watch it recently and couldn't bare more than 15 mins of it. Hiring that Nickelodeon Keenan guy was a big mistake for them.
67. Wow - October 13, 2008 8:24 PM
Tina Fey is the head writer now, all you idiots saying how funny she is. She is the reason why SNL sucks so bad.
68. Urbanspaceman - October 13, 2008 8:35 PM
Most people who say that SNL "isn't funny" any more don't even watch it. People chose to remember the best sketches from the past. But even in the times of the immortal original cast, some sketches laid there and died. people forget them, just like they forget the first season after Belushi & Akroyd left. The show's as funny now as it ever was, just different.
As for Mark (serious actor now) Walberg, he's not at all funny.

Have you watched old episodes of SNL ? It always stunk. They've never been funny. You know what else stinks? The new season of Entourage ! What total crap this year is.
79. Pedro the Lion - October 14, 2008 10:18 AM
Mark Wahlberg is easily one of the top 5 worst actors in the U.S. The Happening was the comedy sensation of the year thanks to his performance.
80. whatever - October 14, 2008 10:39 AM
@79 - I have to agree, I could not stop laughing during The Happening. It was the most absurd, hilariously terrible shit I've seen in a long time. I was pretty hysterical during the talking to the plant scene, so this sketch was particularly funny to me.

You're an idiot. Seth Meyers is the head writer. Tina Fey has nothing to do with the show other than the occasional guest spot.
82. Steve - October 14, 2008 12:16 PM
Marky Mark is right for the most part and the sketch itself did kind of suck
BUT
Samber had that voice DOWN as well as the oblivious stupidity of Marky Mark.
83. chuck - October 14, 2008 12:21 PM
I am so sick of this cliched "SNL hasn't been funny since ____" bullshit. SNL has been hit or miss from the beginning. If people were honest and objective, they would see that. EVERY season -- every episode, really -- has its highlights and it has its duds. I saw this sketch the other night and I laughed. I watched it again just now and I laughed. It's not high-concept and it's not cerebral. But somehow it works. Is it because you expect the animals to understand Mark or talk back and they never do? Is it because I've never seen anyone do a Mark Wahlberg impression? I don't know. That's the ephemeral nature of comedy. If something's funny, it just is. Curiously, the fact that they stretch it out longer than you'd expect -- something I will admit kills a lot of SNL's better sketches -- works to their advantage here. (Oh, and I do like Samberg. Why all the hateration, people?)
84. The Sports Hernia - October 14, 2008 9:43 PM

I don't care if SNL hasn't been funny in years (although I do miss Steve Martin...) I usually don't laugh at SNL clips anymore but I actually thought this one was semi-comical. You know, in an "I'm sitting here bored off my @ss at work and would like to fill a void" kind of way. Either way, I actually chuckled. Mark Wahlberg needs to get his panties out of a bunch--it's just a clip.

I thoughtthe sketch was hilarious. Best SNL seen in a while. Tho SNL is nothing it used to be. But I really thought that was a great imitation and I think Andy and Mark could do hilaaaarious skits together.
