Sep 16 2008Amy Poehler leaving Saturday Night Live
Amy Poehler, who's pregnant with her first child with husband Will Arnett, will take a maternity leave from Saturday Night Live after the November election - but she won't be coming back, according to the latest issue of Men's Vogue:
"It's gonna be really hard — Boyz II Men hard — to say goodbye to yesterday. 'SNL' was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."
Okay, now everybody can officially say there's nobody funny on SNL anymore. Not that I've watched the show in years, but I sort of liked knowing it was there. You know, in case I ever found myself sitting at home on a Saturday night with a fistful of Valium and Wild Turkey. What can I say? I'm a health nut.

That show is still on? I watch it every once in a while and it is just bad all the time. Even the Hillary and Sara skit sucked big time!
7. Shawn - September 16, 2008 1:17 PM
The reason she is leaving is because she is rumored to be on the office spin-off which starts filming after january 1. Major loss to SNL but we'll still be able to find her on TV.
8. steve - September 16, 2008 1:19 PM
Only "the economy is fundamentally ok...oops, worst drop in stocks since 9/11, d'oh!!!" McCain supporters would think the Hillary and Sarah skit was bad. Truth hurts, doesn't it, pea brain.

I'll miss looking at her always-lovely hair. Maybe I'll have to put a pile of straw on top of the TV.
14. DaveR - September 16, 2008 1:26 PM
Um... Kristin Wiig is currently about 400 times funnier than Amy Poehler has been in the past few years. I think Amy sort of lost her fastball once they put her behind the Weekend Update desk.
She'll do great in a sitcom, though -- I have no doubts about that.
15. Michelle - September 16, 2008 1:30 PM
I never found Amy Poehler funny. That show went downhill a long time ago.

1. none of her shit was funny just fucking annoying
2. she looks like ass so she was even hard to look at.
20. Rut - September 16, 2008 1:48 PM
The show went down the tube when Tina Fey and her Husband took over as head writers. She turned a funny show into a boring, not funny at all, show.
21. JoshLavarn - September 16, 2008 1:49 PM
SNL was best during the early 90's, friggin they had PAT, Canteen Boy, Toonces the Driving Cat, Middle Age Man, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Wayne's World, Sprockets, Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy, Stewart Smalley, Motivational Speaker (Chris Farley)....
Now SNL completely SUCKS!!!
Friggin the only halfway funny guy is the Fat Albert actor. The rest are lamo unfunny jews...
22. anti-Hollywood conservative - September 16, 2008 1:49 PM

It is called a market correction dumb ass.
If you were old enough to drive and followed stocks at all you would understand that. You probably had your mom pull all four nickels you have out for that reason.
Great time to buy but you obviously have no clue.
SNL sucks anyways....

I find everything on TV offensive, with the possible exception of the National Anthem followed by a test pattern. But it better be a black-and-white pattern, not one of them coloreds. You know what I mean.

#23 - yeah, and Bear Sterns, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Countrywide, American International Group, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, IndyMac...we've seen all this before, it's no big deal. Plus there was a spike in the unemployment rate last month, to 6%. Not a problem. Fuel prices are fairly steady now, they're simply higher than lots of folks can afford. No biggie.
Problems, what problems?
Vote Republican. We won't let you down...because you're close to the bottom now anyway.

@26 -
What do the top ten cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?
Democrat leadership.
Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn''t elected a Republican mayor since 1961;
Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn''t elected one since 1954;
Cincinnati, OH (3rd)... since 1984;
Cleveland, OH (4th)... since 1989;
Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
St. Louis, MO (6th).... since 1949;
El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
Milwaukee, WI (8th)... since 1908;
Philadelphia, PA (9th)... since 1952;
Newark, NJ(10th)... since 1907.
Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
It is the disadvantaged who habitually elect Democrats - yet are still disadvantaged... hmmm...
32. Jim - September 16, 2008 2:50 PM
Uh, it's insane to say everything's fine. Oil prices are going to stay high and the heating season is approaching rapidly. Banks are in the process of going back to risk-averse policies in a huge way, likely over-compensating as they historically have. Real estate at best will bottom out and stay there for awhile (see previous). The unemployment rate will continue to increase (most predictions are for it to increase over the next 6 months). Net result: consumer confidence and spending will go even lower than it is, culminating in a holiday retail season that will cause a lot of businesses to close. It seems like people can't bring themselves to say the word, but: recession. That's what we're sliding into, slowly and steadily, with multiple factors supporting the slide. Sure, it's a great time to buy stocks if you're rich. It's a shitty time for the other 90% of America.
33. You can't handle the truth - September 16, 2008 2:57 PM
#31 - Yeah, I've noticed another pattern. Bush leaves office in 1992 during economic hardship for most Americans, with unemployment at 7.3%. Clinton takes over and for 8 years economic conditions improve continuously and unemployment drops continuously. Another Bush leaves office in 2008 during economic hardship for most Americans, with unemployment at ___ (probably between 6-7%)...Too bad the Dems didn't nominate Clinton, at least then if we have to repeat history endlessly we'd have 8 years of economic growth to look forward to.

i also liked the Jeopardy skits. norm mcdonald playing bert reynolds and calling himself Turd Ferguson was golden.
where's norm now?
36. The Truth - September 16, 2008 3:18 PM
@30 - I never said everythings fine, just stating facts, but I disagree with you. Im doing better than I ever have in my life and Im not rich by any means. As a matter of fact, the industry Im in is the last thing that would be doing well if we were in or near a recession, and weve done better every month over prior months (year before) over the past 3 yrs. Im in the extreme sports industry (snowboard/skiing/surfing).
I simply dont care about the people who took risks and lost. The same way I dont care about idiots that want to "stick it out" when a hurricane is coming their way , then expect the government to rescue them during the storm because they are getting flooded etc.
@33- dont kid yourself...the only thing Clinton did as president was have good timing. The computer and pharmaceutical industries took off while he was in office and he reaped the benefits of every mentally deranged person thinking there was a drug out there to cure them and the fact that everyone decided to buy a computer to have in their house. Thats it.
Oh, and the average over 8 yrs of unemployment during the Bush yrs is lower than it was during Clintons. It might only be by .0769 percent, but it is. It could very well change over the next few months, but I doubt it.
37. classic - September 16, 2008 3:23 PM
"Oh, and the average over 8 yrs of unemployment during the Bush yrs is lower than it was during Clintons."
That's because Clinton handed off to him with the rate under 4% and Bush's dad handed off to Clinton with the rate over 7%.
If you can't do simple arithmetic, don't try to comment on economics.

43. Mike Oxbhig - September 16, 2008 3:43 PM
# 37 . Thats a little misleading and he did simple math and was correct with the percentage of .0769. Youre the one with the mischaracterization of your comment.
Lets look at this shall we mister know it all
4% + the Clinton "Recession" Bill + 9/11 = still incredible to be lower than your boy bills rate.
'Bill' Comes Due for 8 Years of Corruption
Despite the media effort to pin the 2001 recession on President Bush, the fact remains that he had little to do with the last eight years of economic policy from the White House. The infamous miracle bubble of Bill Clinton's economy burst in summer 2001 when OPEC oil price increases rocked the world economy.
In February 1999, Energy Secretary Bill Richardson visited Saudi Arabia when prices were at their lowest. Richardson reportedly pressed Saudi Oil Minister Ali Naimi on the "oversupplied market" and expressed concern about "extreme price volatility."
Former Saudi minister Sheik Ahmed Zaki Yamani told a Houston oil conference that Richardson had "saved the oil industry" during that visit because his "intervention" had "persuaded" the Saudis to change policy by raising prices.
After Richardson's visit, Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, an industry newsletter, quoted Saudi officials as wanting "a price of $18 to $20 as soon as possible."
In 1999, then-President Clinton pressed OPEC to raise prices in order to finance the brutal Russian war in Chechnya. Clinton needed Russia's help settling that pesky little war in Kosovo. However, Bill was unable to aid Boris Yeltsin directly because of the rampant corruption inside Moscow.
Clinton quietly used OPEC oil diplomacy to supply Russia increased energy profits. The influx of cash into Moscow was mainly obtained through Iraqi oil sold by the U.N. and distributed through Russian suppliers. The cash paid for the Russian war and a new round of rampant corruption, centered on the former Soviet GAZPROM state oil company.
However, there were also unexpected results. The oil sales helped Saddam Hussein re-arm his military with a brand new Chinese-built air defense system. The move is also now seen as a major blunder that triggered the 2001 recession.
So yes, he inherited a 4% unemployment rate with a forthcoming recession being passed down.
if you lack common knowledge and cant do simple research, dont post about economics dear boy.

P.S. I LOVE KIDS!!!
49. HankTheDwarf - September 16, 2008 8:47 PM
Amy Poehler ceased to be funny after UCB. She became concerned with looking cute and hamming it up on SNL in order to get movie deals, rather than concentrating on serving the scene and being FUNNY.
And I hate anyone who thinks it's cool to say "nobody's funny on SNL". They must not be watching because Kristen Wiig, Will Forte, and Bill Hader are 3 of the best cast members of the past 20 years.
50. HorribleJudgment - September 17, 2008 12:46 AM
Oh well, too bad. I liked her, but I ain't gonna grieve about it. Kristen Wiig is funny. Maybe Lorne will FINALLY start bringing in some good people and fucking re-tool the show. PLEASE Lorne. If you still care, you will do that.
51. HankTheDwarf - September 17, 2008 2:50 AM
I also forgot to mention that Fred Armisen is fucking awesome and needs to be featured way more on the show.
Also Lorne needs to seriously fire Keenan "One voice, One character" Thompson.
