I will paraphrase a comment that has been heard many times before about gun control, "if gun control is allowed, only criminals will have guns". The only people affected by gun control will be law abiding citizens who don't steal, murder, rape, assault or otherwise terrorize others for personal gain.

Criminals don't follow the rules, which is what makes them criminals. They obtain their weapons through illegal means so, gun control doesn't bother them at all. In fact, they would prefer it because it means they are less likely to be shot by a homeowner when they break into his home at 3 am. We would be as defenseless as sheep and we can't rely on the police to be right around the corner if we did actually manage to call 911.

I will never leave my family defenseless. No, I don't sit on the porch with my shotgun in my lap waiting for someone to look sideways at me. But I guarantee that I am no further than five seconds away from getting my hands on a weapon with which I can deal with a threat. Proper training and familiarity with the weapon would have prevented your cousin's gun from being cleaned while loaded and accidentally firing. I regularly use and clean my guns all the time and the very first thing I do is check to see that magazines are ejected and the chambers are clear. At that point, the gun is safe to handle.

People are always going to find ways to do things to themselves and commit crimes against each other. Taking away guns will do absolutely nothing to solve any of society's problems. The problems will increase simply because, as I said in a previous post, criminals will take advantage of an undefended population.

I love how anti gun people don't know anything about guns. People fear what they do not understand. The average hunting rifle is much more powerful then "military style weapons" which are mostly chambered for intermediate cartredges. When you say automatic weapons you must be an idiot. The National Firearm Act established in the 1930s regulated the ownership of automatic weapons. It requires that you register them with the ATF and have to pay a tax just to own one. Also most of these guns will end up running you over $15,000 becasue of the limited supply of transferable weapons. The most common guns are SEMI-automatic. Theres a big diference. Contrary to what your small mind may think, the majority of Americans DO NOT support gun control. So continue to suck off society and vote for liberals while my tax dollars float your free ride. Meanwhile I will continue to be smarter than you and most other anti gun morons who can't seem to make any rational points whatsoever. This did not change when Parliment imposed the gun ban, gun crime did not go down or increase.
So the gun ban did not do anything to reduce crime.
Which means legal gun ownership does not contribute to crime.

The right to bear arms is a constitutional right, and a very good one. Owning firearms for hunting is ok by me; game meat is good for you. There are already enough gun laws that are not adequately policed as it is, so work on those first before enacting new laws. OK got that out of the way. I don't have any problems with gun ownership.

Most of the gun proponents here relate the same old tired argument about guns are a successful home crime deterrent. It's just not true. In all pro-gun statements the argument about thugs getting guns through illegal means is never explained. What are those illegal means? In many cases they guns are stolen from homes where they were legally purchased by the owners. Also it's during the daytime! Most burglars steal during the day when people are at work. So the excuse about keeping a gun to protect your house generally falls on its face because gun owners are not at home, but the ripe for the picking gun is. Smart gun owners store their weapon and ammo separately. So having the time to thwart a crime by getting the gun loaded in time is generally not possible.

One other thing, this story about Heidi and Spencer is really disturbing. All at once they are going to spend $10K on arms, just to have them? If you are a responsible gun owner you would be disgusted by this behavior.
