May 27 2008Sydney Pollack dies of cancer at 73
Respected actor/director Sydney Pollack passed away Monday after battling cancer for the past 10 months, according to Reuters:
Pollack, whose illness first came to public attention after unspecified health issues led him to withdraw last August as director of an HBO television movie, died at his home in the coastal Los Angeles suburb of Pacific Palisades at about 5 p.m. local time, surrounded by his family.
The Directors Guild of America issued a statement on Monday night saluting him as "the quintessential 'actor's director"' and a gifted filmmaker who "let the dialogue and the emotion of a scene speak for itself."
Sydney Pollack's more recent roles included appearances on NBC's Will & Grace as Will's father, and a lawyer in the George Clooney drama Michael Clayton. He was one a hell of a filmmaker and will truly be missed. Rest in Peace.

A loss of a gifted writer who was also such a talent in front of the camera....
Kiss to the heavens for you, Mr. Pollock! You will not be forgotten.

A rare genius who actually knew how to have a career in Hollywood. It's a damn shame. He was a fine actor and an amazing director.

RIP Sid.
Tanx for the 'heads up' on that one Suzy #7. I think we may have dated...
And in other news - So I happened to turn on 'The Cold Bear' show or whatever it's called 'ce soir' , and - before realizing it was a Memorial Day repeat - was a thinkin' - Hey, this, and sidekick Stewart's show are real 'cutting edge' comedy.
These zany pranksters really personify the modern day nuances of say - a 'Harvey Korman' or a 'Tim Conway'. Only these guys bring with them a tough, biting, political edge. The two really know how to 'push the envelope' , as they say in the industry.
Then.
I reflected.
Somewhat.
But that solitude was soon rudely punctured, by, like ,reality.
Ummm...Say guys/writers 9/11 was an inside job.
We, like, noticed. And we, like, noticed, you don't mention it type thing...
Just in case you were wondering...type thing....

Farewell to a great man, he brought us an amazing amount of good and lasting films. That said, he still owes me $5.75 for "The Way We Were".
#11 Binky, really, mate, enough is enough with the 9/11 inside job shit., it's done. Normally I like your other posts when you stay off this tangent, but this thread isn't the place. And if you honestly think the group of fuckups that make up Bush's coterie are capable of pulling that sort of thing off, well, sadly you're beyond all rational thought or medication.

An administration that has siezed immense power in what was the strongest country in the world - the seat of power in the world - was not capable of dastardly schemes? Half the terrorists setting off alarms as they were boarding the planes that smashed into the towers? Rumsfelds verbal (subconscious leakings of an elderly mind) slips?
Boy J, you are a dumb one. I guess you as they say, haven't a clue.

Ironically, he played an oncologist who killed his wife on the last season of The Sopranos. Tried to help Johnny Sack when he was dying of cancer in federal prison.

That is a shame...I liked his work a lot, both as an actor and a director. He was even able to make a complete chick flick, "Out of Africa", a film I thoroughly enjoyed.

This dude was a major fucking talent.
Puts to shame the cunts and losers so prominently displayed day-after-day on celeb-sites. A plastic nose or lip-sync'ing doesn't result in a memorable legacy.

#31 Sorry, he-man squirrel, I thought it sucked. Hated the song, too, it made me want to punch rabbits and small helpless kittens. Oh, Sydney, you see what a lot I forgave you for. And with interest on that $5.75 you now owe me $1,375.82. I'll take a check.
36. I club dumb americans - May 27, 2008 8:25 PM
to all the trailer park folks asking who S.P was or why anyone should bother with his passing away- search imdb to check out his filmography and influence. you gotta have double digit IQ to suggest S.P.s work is limited to Tootsie.
rest in peace Mr.Pollack.

New #19 UCrawford, there was one of those asshole mingle spamsite posts talking about now deleting Pollack's profile before they were blasted to hell and you became 19. I got nothing against you, just so you know. Thank you Fish guy for flushing them down the sewer!

I'm just a bit curious. The Magazine HOLLYWOOD GOSSIP reported his profiles were found on the famous 30+ 40+ rich women seeking affairs site jseniormatch. c om last week and he was seeking his mature baby there now!
