May 29 2008Rachael Ray is a coffee-selling terrorist
Many of you have probably heard that Dunkin' Donuts pulled an ad featuring Rachael Ray because she looks "too Arab-y." Apparently, her scarf set the right-wing blogs a-buzzing who decided to wage war on my beloved Dunkin' until they pulled the ad. Bloodied and beaten, the purveyors of sweet fried bread that fuel my morning gave in, according to the Boston Globe:
The Canton-based company has abruptly canceled an ad in which the domestic diva wears a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. Some observers, including ultra-conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin, were so incensed by the ad that there was even talk of a Dunkin’ Donuts boycott.
‘‘The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad,’’ Malkin yowls in her syndicated column.
‘‘Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.’’
Dunkin' Deeznuts issued the following statement after pulling the terror-inducing ad. (Holy shit, she's got a latte! Duck!):
Said the suits in a statement: ‘‘In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.’’
The only jihad that scarf makes me want to commit is against my hangover - with sweet caffeine. And if that's not American, shit, I don't know what is. That said, I'll assume for their next commercial Rachael Ray, clad in the Stars and Stripes, will fire an AK at a Boston Creme - then dump scalding hot lattes on a gay wedding. Wow, I should work in advertising. I would sell stuff's face off.
Thanks to BK for the "hot tip." Get it? Hot? Like coffee. Comedy!

Isn't it obvious to everyone that anyone wearing a black and white scarf must be a terrorist or support one?
The left-wing media must have made people blind. Oh wait, I bet you all non-FoxNews media must support terrorists.

This is how absurd our country is becomming. Anyone who wants to boycott because of a scarf should be tied up and forced to listen to a duet by Jessica Simpson and Mariah Carey followed by watching any movies they attempt to act in.

I think an important thing to remember is that people in entertainment can sometimes be quite stupid. Yet, they are definitly not as stupid as stylists.

Oh, how ridiculous is that? The only reason they should have pulled that fricken ad is because Rachel Ray is an obnoxious has been who's 15 minutes of fame is up. Then again...what nationality of people usually own Dunkin Donuts franchises...hmmm...I don't mean to be prejudice, but hmmm. Yeah, I'm probably jumping to conclusions based on the color of someones skin; how stupid, so I'll just shut the f up. But Lord knows the stupid "Binky" poster on here is gonna go apeshit posting about 911 this and that. Greeeaat, can't wait.

Come on! Let's face it, Dunkin's been doing subliminal advertising for terrorists for quite some time. Just look at this picture and tell me it doesn't make you want to kill Jews.

clay Aiken is going to be a Daddy?! WTF?!?!
TMZ has learned Clay Aiken is going to be a daddy. In case you didn't process that, Clay Aiken is going to be a daddy.
Here's what we know. Multiple sources tell us the mother is Jaymes Foster, a record producer and Clay's best friend. He lives at her home when he's in L.A.
We're told Foster, who produced several Aiken CDs, is due in August. She's the sister of record mogul David Foster. We're told she's in her late 40's, though we could not confirm her exact age. Aiken is 29.
We're told Foster was artificially inseminated. But Clay is a lot more than sperm -- we're told he will have an active role in raising the child.
No immediate word from Aiken's rep.

This is like the third time a boycott is mentioned because of those scarves.
I think they should ban all sorts of guns and knives from ever appearing on the massive media because they could be related to things like terrorism and that would be like very bad.
Oh and also ban certain elements from the periodic table, and chemistry lessons, better be safe than sorry.
29. Jumpin_J - May 29, 2008 1:48 PM
"Obama" just saw the name of Michelle Malkin and came in his pants, and to think he did it two seconds. If Israelis dressed like that (and some do), are they ALL terrorists. But that's rediculous logic, unless you're "Obama", in which case we should nuke Israel immediately (I think he came again).
But seriously folks, Dunkin Donuts SHOULD be boycotted, but not because someone thought middle-eastern clothes = "terror chic" is a DUMBASS. The reason is they are partially owned by the Carlyle Group. For those who didn't know, they are also one of the biggest Iraqi war profiteers. According to Wikipedia, "Connections between the Carlyle and the Bush family have inspired controversy, particularly in relation to the War on Terror and the Iraq War. George H. W. Bush and his Secretary of State James A. Baker III have at times been advisors to the group. One writer claimed that Saudi Arabian interests have given $1.4 billion to firms connected to the Bush family. Of this figure, $1.18 billion comes from contracts awarded to defense contractor Braddock, Dunn & McDonald, which Carlyle sold before George H. W. Bush became an advisor. A Carlyle spokesman noted in 2003 that its 7 percent interest in defense industries was far less than several other venture capital groups".
7% is hardly small potatoes. For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlyle_Group#Controversy

Just another symbol of terror as fashion statement. You remember that ultra cool Che shirt, don't you? Maybe you own one? Nevermind what it means. It's cool! Nevermind, that it was sold to you by the dreaded, evil capitolist's. It's cool! Never think beyond what Hollywood or the lastest designer tells you. Now the keffiyeh is drapped across the shoulders of the American " fashion forward". It's nothing new. Unaware, uninformed and hopelessly naive. Keep buying, America.
Not interested in the meaning behind the symbols of jihad? It's okay. Jihad is interested in you.

People who agree with my views. We're usually too ugly to get laid and when we do get lucky, we're terrible in bed and therefore do not get the next date. So you have to feel sorry for us because we really have nothing better to do, except possibly eat and get fat. And of course we're not supposed to say bad things either in church, so we have to vent it out somewhere else.

You know those scarves are huge in NY right now. Every little hispster douche in Brooklyn is wearing them. I think they're issuing them with skintight jeans and Morrisey t-shirts. I may want to kill every last one of those scruffy, PBR drinking motherfuckers, but they aren't terrorists. The real terrorists are the asshats on Fox News and all their republican buddies who are trying to scare up a controversy over A FUCKING SCARF. It's a good thing we don't have any more pressing issues for the media to be dealing with than Rachel Ray (who I adore by the way) schilling coffee and doughnuts in a scarf that's all the rage right now. Fucking jackasses.
60. dogonabone - May 29, 2008 4:28 PM
JFC! this scarf does NOT represent terrorism. It's just an ugly, unfashionable scarf. It'd be perfect for stuffing into MMalkin's mouth to gag her quiet.
I don't eat doughnuts and I don't watch RRay, but I can't believe that anyone would consider seriously anything Michelle Malkin spews. She's might end up the reason I turn my vote over to the liberals. Republican's sound so fucking retarded.

indeed it is an arab thing, (but not a terrorist thing). and just so you know there are a lot of arabs and muslims in isreal too.
its true that a lot of people wear it to show support for the palestinian cause - and even this by no means makes them terrorists or means that they support terrorism. Israel has gotten away with treating the palestinians much like how they were treated by nazi's only because of the american support they get; these days the average american has no fucking clue what the isreali-palestinian problem is about, and say they support israel because of what happened to jews in WWII.
For every palestinian suicide bomber there are many more jewish bombs - this horrible conflict has cost many more innocent palestinian lives than innocent israelis.

Fox news is America. Hatred and ignorance.
94. eurotrash - May 30, 2008 8:27 AM
damn jonny; you really didn't get what i was sayin... whether or not minorities have representation in the government of the country they live in has absolutely nothing to do with what i said. and yea the israeli-palestinian conflict has become so complex that if only one of the two sides laid down their weapons it would be taken advantage of by the fanatics.. clearly the situation requires both sides to come to a mutually fair agreement.
the hatred for isreal in the muslim community is because of the way the palestinians have been treated - they've been driven off their land and forced to live in the most aweful conditions in camps, military raids have left entire villages beaten, raped, or dead. the humiliating treatment at border checks is sickening...and once again everytime a suicide bomber attacks, the isreali military response is of a far greater magnitude and leaves many more innocent civilians dead.
btw, im female so im sure you can come up with something more appropriate than dickwad.
95. c - May 30, 2008 10:52 AM
this is the most inane "controversy" i've heard of in a while. a paisley scarf? seriously? my god. the level of fear that this country runs on never ceases to astonish me.
what would be really great is if the right wing started complaining about all the indian families that own all of the dunkin donuts stores...because they look too arab-y. i guarantee that's what all of those racist jerks think already, anyway...
96. TAylor - May 30, 2008 11:50 AM
God.
This country is becoming more ridiculous by the seconds.
97. sara - May 30, 2008 12:10 PM
omgg, this scarf doesnt symbolise arab terrorists. Its an traditional garment and arab people was wearing it, each culture have they traditional clothes and because it concerns arabic people they think its related to terrorism. Also, the word jihad means strive, to defend arab people. it doesnt concern terrorism. and arab are not terrorists. the media gave this prejudice about them. these people who did this thing are very racists and ignorants
and eurotrash (94.) is right
98. Jonny - May 30, 2008 12:22 PM
Hey all you liberal DUMMIES! It isn't just Republicans who are offended. Palestinians also get upset when you wear them..... Are they RACIST? YOU DICKHEADS! Example from retail store in Australia today:
Ms Tieger said she had “no idea about the politics” when she bought the scarf at the Tree Of Life store.
“I thought it was a nice scarf, a cowboy scarf. I thought: ‘It’s black and white, no-one will say anything to me because that’s all we can wear [with our work uniform]’.
“A Palestinian customer came up and asked me if I’m wearing this scarf as a fashion statement or for political reasons.
“I had no idea what he was talking about because I don’t follow politics at all. I just laughed it off.
“Two days later he called and complained about it.”
99. Lucia - May 30, 2008 12:23 PM
Lol, is like saying that people with moustache are evil because Adolf Hitler had one.
100. Jonny - May 30, 2008 12:28 PM
Eurotrash,
You are once again completely wrong. The Palestinians were never driven off their land. Read your history books instead of liberal propaganda. The UN created Israel. The Arab population was never forced to leave, MANY stayed and thrive to this day, as I explained earlier. The others chose to leave at the behest of the surrounding Muslim countries, with the garantee that they would attack them and make the land Muslim. They did attack, all three surrounding arab nations, and lost. You really need to learn thehistory of the region.
101. those right-wingers are disgusting - May 30, 2008 1:37 PM
Oh my gosh, I fucking hate those right-wing dictators. They're just nasty stupid dictators. I'm from Europe and here a lot of people (male and female) wear that scarf, it's worn by people who is very left-winger, anarchist, communist, whatever, nothing at all related to Arabs or terrosists, at all. It's just worn by people who like the extreme left a lot, it's a symbol for them. Lately, it has become a fashion accesory for a lot of people regardless of their political views.
So what if people who like the left wear it? Isn't the USA a democracy? can't people in the USA decide what their political views are? I guess those corrupt phony murderers and criminals and dictators of the USA extreme right-wing are too afraid that there's even people aware of what anarchism or communism truly means fearing that people maybe could start thinking that extreme capitalism sucks and they'd start being tired of being exploted and robbed by politicians and big corporations, and maybe those right-wing criminals would start losing their power and money they steal from working-class people.
I hope Obama wins and kicks all those right-wing criminals in the ass. What they want is to steal your money and control what you think, so people, please, NEVER vote republican. They are the true anti-American ones. The constitution of the USA claims what those republicans fear the most. The last thing they want you to have is freedom, they only want to control you and steal your money. Being American and a patriot is way beyond hanging the USA flag in the door of your hose, eating hot dogs, celebrating memorial day and the 4th of July and singing the USA anthem. Being a patriot is fighting for the true values of your country no matter if those republicans say you're anti-American for doing it in fear they'll lose their power, and they try to sell you being a patriot is believing all their lies and haging the flag in your house, that's what they want you to think. Obama is the only true real American patriot, every American should go vote for him, it's the best thing you could do for your country Americans!
102. yep - May 30, 2008 1:47 PM
#89, you obviously aren't American, because in America no one knows what the Israelis do to the Palestinians. The news never show it there. In Europe we get to see it, they show the images of Israelis killing Palestinian babies and children (this is 100% true, if you ever come to Europe watch the news and you'll see it, Palestinian bloody and dead babies and children killed by Israelis for no reason), but the right-wing and republican American government is pro-Israel, so they'll never show it in America because they don't want people to know to thruth or be aware of what's truly going on.
103. how likely...? - May 30, 2008 2:00 PM
It's funny how republicans and right-wingers try to get the votes of people (and, most important, their MONEY and RIGHTS) by trying to impose fear and the false idea that only republicans can protect people from some evil so called terrorist that only want to kill them. Yup, how likely is the possibility that you'll be killed in a terrorist attack in the USA? how many people have been killed in terrorist attacks in the USA? Yup, very, very, very, very, extremely few. It's one of the rarest things that could happen to any American. Yet, those republicans and right wingers tell you it's your main problem and it has to be your biggest fear. However, how many people in the USA die or have a miserable life because they can't afford a doctor or a surgery and they don't have insurance? how many people die and have miserable lifes because they don't have enough money to afford schools and a good education? MILLIONS of Americans. Children die because they can't afford a doctor or a surgery in America, and America and the right wing republicans let them die. What a great country. But we shouldn't care about unimportant stuff like that, what does your health and education matter anyway? If universal healthcare was created, republicans and big corporations would lose a lor of money. So it's best to tell people that they main concern has to be something that is almost impossible: that they're killed in a terrorist attack. And yes, Obama would protect America from terrorist attacks WAY better than republicans, those money and power hungry criminals and murderers. Vote for Obama, don't even give in to those criminals aka republicans and let them control your life and mind while they steal your hard earned money and rights!
104. tori - May 30, 2008 2:49 PM
this is the stupidest thing i've ever heard.
god help any company that advertises with diversity too.
i mean really, don't they know they should only have white people waving flags in commercials?
GROW UP YOU RIGHT WINGED NINNY HEADS.
105. jonny - May 30, 2008 3:41 PM
millions of Americans dying from No medical attention!!!!!!! What a fucking joke! The health care in America is the best in the fucking world! Show me a child who died from not getting a specific operation. You can't! It doesn't happen. This is the greatest country in the world
106. wow, so much ignorance, it's sad - May 30, 2008 3:54 PM
#105 it's sad that the people who control your life, mind and money and steal your hard earned money and rights have such a control over your brain for you to be so much of a puppet, unless you're one of them that's it.
I recommend that you get outside of your country for once and see that there's a whole great world beyond its borders. In Europe they have universal healthcare, the best in the world. No one has to pay insane amounts of money to receive the best medical attention and no one has to worry for a second about what they're gonna do if they can't afford a doctor, a medicine, a surgery, whatever, no one needs insurance either, because EVERYONE has it for granted, and people's health is way more important than money there.
I recommend you and everyone to watch the movie John Q (starring Denzel Washington and based on real events) to get a little bit of enlightment. Is really money more important than your health and your family's health? if yes, vote republican, because that's one of their principles. If not, vote Obama and fight for your country and your rights!
107. jonny - May 30, 2008 6:28 PM
“The kaffiyeh is a visual extension of our struggle, a way to be a thorn in the silence,” says Ahmad Habib, Iraqi refugee and a member of the Arab Cultural Resistance music group. “Everywhere, from the Arab world to Toronto, people dress up to paint the world with conformity and indifference. The kaffiyeh stands in the way of that.”
The transition of the kaffiyeh from the Middle Eastern version of a baseball cap to a symbol of solidarity came with the occupation of Palestinian land. The kaffiyeh became a symbol of national identity for Palestinians. From the ‘60s on, Palestine Liberation Organization officials and members, such Yasser Arafat, wore the kaffiyeh everywhere they went.
International coverage of the first intifada often showed pictures of Palestinian civilians throwing stones with kaffiyehs around their faces or necks. But afterward, the kaffiyeh was popular only amongst activists and Palestinian refugees.
During the second intifada in 2000, sympathy for Palestinians began to grow and the kaffiyeh became a way of displaying solidarity.
“Ideally, I want everyone to wear the kaffiyeh,” says Habib, “but if it’s just worn for the aesthetic value, without the spirit of resistance wrapped up in every thread, then they might as well not wear it at all, and if it becomes appropriated by commercial interests, then that’s even worse.”
108. jonny - May 30, 2008 6:32 PM
Europe sucks ass! That's why all the Europeans are clamoring to get into this country. More people try to emigrate to the U.S.A. than any other country in the world because it is the best place to live in the entire world! Nobody is dying to get in to France! Socialized medicine is the reason all the europeans come here to get serious operations. Trust me, I know, I work in a hospital.
109. jonny - May 30, 2008 6:37 PM
#106...you are the ignorant one. In most european countires, the wait for even the simplest procedures is months. Walk into any emergency room in the U.S. and you cannot be refused treatment. It is the law, no matter where you come from, or what color you are. wise up....this is the greatest country in the world..No one is telling you how to think. That's why we all have the right to spew our nonsense online or in the street whenever we want. Enjoy your freedoms! Many people died to garantee them
110. BoboTed - May 30, 2008 10:16 PM
Bullshit about America having short waiting times at medical facilities. The dickhead conservatives that say that have obviously not been to the doctor, EVER. The US healthcare system is a joke and is the most expensive in the wolkd because it is run by greedy, bribing, for-profit corporations that make money by denying their customers care.
Europeans come to the US to get elective surgery. At least in Europe people have their basic health needs met instead of being left to die in the streets for having no insurance, which is what a lot of hospitals do.
As for America being a destination for immigrants- so what? France is a very popular destination for north Africans. America is just the closest developed nation for many desperately poor people- that is why they come.
111. BoboTed - May 30, 2008 10:22 PM
Yes, hospitals cannot legally deny treatment for people, even if they are uninsured. Unfortunately for the 50 MILLION Americans without health insurance, the emergency room is the only place they receive care, and by then their ailment is very serious when it could have been nipped in the bud by the PREVENTATIVE care that is the hallmark of all socialized medicine systems.
As for the Palestinians being the impediment to peace, what a bunch of fucking bullshit. The Israelis are bulldozing Palestinian settlements, constructing a massive apartheid wall to bisect the West Bank and separate Palestinian communities from one another, and bombing indiscriminately in Gaza and preventing the people there from receiving basic goods and health care.
Israel is a genocidal state that desires to exterminate all the Palestinians. The leaders of Hamas and many other Arab nations have repeatedly accepted a two-state solution. Israel has imprisoned most of Hamas' freely elected ;eadership, denying Palestinians their right to be represented by the people for whom they voted.

Dear god, I have one of those scarfs!! Jeez that must mean I'm a terrorist too! My boyfriend's mum gave it to me, is she a terrorist too? Is everyone?! I cant believe they reacted like that and pulled the ad. I'd be complaining that they pulled it, if I was an Arab I'd fucking complain that by pulling it it's offensive.
Has the whole world gone batshit insane?!

jonny -
read your own quotes again..funny how it mentions palestinian REFUGEES.
my opinion isnt based on 'liberal propaganda', its based on my own experiences after having travelled through the region, and the experiences of reporters who worked in the region.
115. Tori - May 31, 2008 11:23 AM
That's so fucking stupid. I think next Rachel should wear an American Flag around her neck - no wait! She should be naked and wearing only an American Flag. Would that be more acceptable than a paisley scarf? Jesus Christ, now I can't wear my scarves? I have Arabian horses, in shows we dress up in Native Costumes, shall we outlaw our Arabian Horse Shows now? I'm a proud American, don't get me wrong but some U.S. Citizens are just plain stupid and should be deported to Iraq.
116. jonny - May 31, 2008 1:30 PM
#111....It is the palestinians who are firing khassem rockets into Israel form gaza. Besides, Israel is the only one providing services to the Palestinians. The surrounding Arab countries won't let them even cross their border dipshit. "Refugees" for 50 years! Nowhere else in the world do you have people claiming refugee status for 50 years.

Jonny, the American education system didn't work too well for you. You can't spell worth a damn. By the way, I am an American service member living in Germany. I have had to go to German doctors here, and the treatment I receive here is second to none. Also, there are a hell of alot of immigrants here. You'd be suprised.

Everytime I hear the name 'Fox' i hide my more liberal opinions and run from the bullshit that is sure to spill from any one person heavily involved with Fox News. I think they really should have been pulling it for bad style and come on people, it's Rachel Ray. =-0

Are you people kidding? There is no way that this regular scarf that American women used to wear some decades ago looks anything like some Islamic clothing accessory!
We are getting so easily upset over nothing.
I hope that Dunkin' Donuts doesn't mind taking the monetary loss that it took to make the commercial. Making commercials are not cheap. And, Good People, now, they get to deduct the loss from their income tax. Which means, that, You and I get to pay more eventually when businesses have losses.
Now, "if" she had put Yassar Arafat's signature head wrap on her head, THEN I would agree with you! But, that didn't happen.
Maybe some folks need to watch some black and white movies from the 1930s and 1940s to see other women wearing "scarfs/shawls" like this.
And, of course, all folks who bad mouth Rachael Ray and make fun of her are just jealous of the fact that she is making millions of dollars every year. Nice work for a 40 year old lady who didn't go to college. Eat your hearts out.
