Matt Drudge didn't "break" the story. Many media outlets had the story for a while but the British government requested that it be kept hush hush to avoid having Harry as a target. But Matt Drudge, as usual caring about no one but himself, blew the story and now the British government is furious. Here's hoping a double-0 operative shows up and does the thing only they can do, and it ain't drinking.

Drudge's choice was predictable. But what can you do, this is the cost for the other times when he gets stuff out that shouldn't be hidden.

I respect Harry's choice to serve in active combat. Who knows, maybe he's just an adventure seeker and was excited about getting into the action and maybe getting to shoot somebody or blow stuff up. But you don't get to question that, because serving is serving. People who do it are better than people who don't.

I wonder if there will be another U.S. president (after McCain) who performed military service in defense of his/her country? Without a draft, it seems unlikely. Too bad, because the "Commander in Chief" really should have served. We've gone from guys with legitimate service (Kennedy, the first Bush) to weasels (Clinton, the second Bush) and now maybe to people who didn't even face the decision in their lifetimes (if it's not McCain). The president can't do many things directly, but one thing is to order soldiers to their (likely) deaths on combat missions. You really should have worn the uniform yourself before doing that.

I don't think the British royalty are 'celebrities' in the traditional sense. Diana also was very commited to her country and helping the underpriviledged. I think they see it as their patriotic duty, which makes it honourable.

Come on, folks, don't be so tardly. Everybody knows there's a tradition for British royals (the dudes) to serve in the military. Often they have legitimate military careers, though not life-long obviously. Prince Charles did years of active duty, Prince Andrew did decades, both as officers, both with promotions and all that. If Prince Harry really wants to be a soldier, he'll continue, but it's pretty unusual that he managed to pull enough strings to be placed in a hot spot, combat-wise.

But remember, tardlings, we're talking about British royals, not elected British political leaders. There's no real parallel here with American presidents or their kids.

I support all people adversely affected by war, which certainly includes Iraqis who are just trying to live their lives and members of military who are putting their lives at risk believing they are doing the right thing. But, I am not pro war and I still find all the violence hate and bigotry very depressing.

With all of that I have to say I find it strangely refreshing to see someone of tremendous privilege and opportunity chooses to be a soldier, simply because so few do. With his wealth, connections, status, family and education he could basically do anything he wants to. I don't know anyone else in his shoes who has chosen to be a soldier. That's one of the big problems. The wealthy who are invested in war and the politicians (who profit most from war) sit safe in their mansions while others fight for them. Even though it is a personal choice I still feel that human beings are used like pawns or chess pieces for the government to play their little world domination, ego, I want blood tainted oil money bullshit games.

Though I love my country I would only be willing to go to war in order to protect others in extreme Hitler like cases as long as politician, the rich and poor were all fighting right along side me. Otherwise I'd always feel I was being bamboozled. I wouldn’t tolerate being a canary.

Bush is an idiot. Instead of continuing Pres. Clinton's plan of capturing Bin Laden; he decided to invade Iraq and pull out important military resources from Afghanistan. Now we have all these terrorist living in Iraq since the US invasion. Bush did not invade Iraq because of supporting terroist; he invaded because of Weapons of Mass destruction and he should have waited longer for more evidence.

Regardless of why we went to Iraq, Bush screwed the war up. He didn't listen to experts that told him he'd need more troops to secure the country and he didn't have a proper plan for the country. He had no plan for infrastructure. I think he assumed that because we had the most powerful military in the world that Iraq would be a cakewalk. However, a military is only as powerful as the people who lead it.

Bush's hubris has put soldiers at risk and has actually made Iraq worse.

There had been multiple attempts and each was getting closer to success (by involving higher level military). A natural internal transition was inevitable. Possibly a civil war would still have broken out, but sometimes that has to happen when a country needs to be divided and have borders redrawn.

The question at hand is whether the extraordinary measure of unilateral military invasion and subsequent occupation of a stable sovereign nation was justified, particularly in the case of a smaller nation with invaluable oil resources being invaded by the lone remaining military superpower. We all know the answer. Well, except for Fox News watchers, I guess.

Anyone who tries to equate the war in Iraq with World War 2 is a fucking moron. Most people say they would have fought against Hitler because that war was so widespread hence the name WORLD WAR.
