I have bipolar too. I had some things similar to what shes going thru. One trait of mania is a lack of impulse control - think about all the crazy behavior and the flashing. The day before I was hospitalized I was speeding around in my car just like Brit.

Bipolar usually shows up in the person's 20's. I was 29. She is 26. I am doing really well and take the meds. Not taking meds for her = more motorcades, helicopters and hospitals.

She will need to learn a lot more about taking care of herself than she ever has in the past. Probably, she should live with a loved one and give up a lot of the lifestyle and freedoms she has now. Certainly, her lifestyle overstimulates her which is not a good thing. I hope she reaches a new normal where she can see things for what they are and where job one is taking care of herself.

Oh yeah and in the hospital I was with a really fat smelly bulldozer operator who kept whacking off. Talk about motivation.

This is such a great time for tabloids. The truth is, none of her doctors are talking. But for some reason everybody believes that they would. So writers sit down and brainstorm plausible stories, which are pure fiction, and release them as if they had inside sources. "Gravely disabled" isn't a term shrinks use, especially when it comes to involuntary commitment. The person is either "competent" to live independently or not. She was living that way right up until she got into the ambulance. There's zero chance of an involuntary commitment. All she has to do is say "I'm fine, I'm not going to hurt anybody, let me go" in a relatively clear-headed way, and she's out. Nobody who can pull it together, even in a minimal way, should be locked up against their will.

Many cases of brain disorder that are branded autism and that are similarly labelled are in fact caused by sexual and non-sexual assaults i.e. these brain disorders are not innate as is often claimed.

Maybe Ms. Britney Spears has been raped or something, and this has had a negative affect on her brain. Bi-polar disorder is self-caused by knowingly doing wrong, but the sufferer (and psychiatrist) often has nil idea that this is the case. So, Ms. Britney Spears does not have bi-polar disorder. I do not think Ms. Britney Spears is insane at all, I think it is a big case of 'they've got it all wrong'. (I am properly psychiatrically qualified).

Here's a breakdown of what it means to be gravely disabled. Sadly, Britney fits a lot of this criteria. I really hope she gets better. I wouldn't want to see anyone in this state. Not even my worst enemy.

In the LPS act, grave disability is defined with three seemingly simple criteria:
Inability to provide for food
Inability to provide for clothing
Inability to provide for shelter

If someone is gravely disable for a longer period of time, they can be placed on an LPS conservatorship. Note, however, that there are different kinds of conservatorships.

So, below are examples of states or conditions that have been upheld as evidence of grave disability. Note that they extend beyond a simplistic definition relating to food, clothing, and shelter. That is, there are a variety of ways incompetence in these three areas can manifest.

Need for food

Cannot distinguish between food and non food
Endangers health by gross negligence in needed diet and nutrition
Begging or stealing food
Eating out of refuse or garbage cans
Ordering meals at restaurants without having funds

Unable to manage his or her household in such a way as to avoid clear dangers to health
Presence in household of filthy conditions) fire hazards that the person cannot correct, vermin infestations, and lack of bathing and toilet facilities

Hoarding nonsensical items while misplacing necessary items

Financial incompetence

Unable to earn an income and unable to avail himself of financial assistance from public or private agencies
Completely dependent on family or friends to provide financial assistance for basic personal needs
Has funds but no longer knows or understands the location and/or extent of them
Refusing to expend funds to the extent of endangering personal health and/or safety
Has no funds and does not see this as a problem
Grossly and inappropriately expends funds needed for basic personal needs
Has untrue beliefs as to having extensive money or property
Mismanages funds so that rent and utility bills remain unpaid
Unable to accept inability or loss of ability to understand complex financial matters leaving him vulnerable to manipulation by unscrupulous individuals
