I saw an interview once with Brit where she claimed to be a Republican.

Even Madonna, who was Britney Spears before Britney was even born, knows how to show a modicum of class. I had a mother who, while not a celebrity, had many of the same issues that Britney has and let me tell you, it is a terrible situation for a child. Children sense what is going on and I am telling you these kids will have HUGE problems some day. My father was not perfect, he partied and liked women, but I wish I lived with him permanently: I would have been much safer.

Basically, Britney is too stupid to have children. When she first hit the scene back in the 90's and I heard her talk for the first time, I knew then and there that she would make ridiculous choices in her life and forever have problems as a result. There has been an extraordinary amount of public criticism of her. This despite the obvious: she usually looks tired, dazed, frazzled, disturbed and far removed from the wholesome teenage girl who broke into the music scene with her bubble-gum pop just a few years ago.

As a Christian should I jump in with judgment? My natural instinct says, yes - this girl’s a mess. She’s crass, she adds to the immoral climate of our “mainstream” culture today.

But as a new creature in Christ who has been given the heart and mind of Jesus, I need to view this from a place of compassion. I need to see a lost soul - a young woman crying out for help, for a break, for compassion, direction. I would be a hypocrite if I thought I were better than her.

Does God love Britney Spears? I believe He does. Did Jesus die on the cross for her? Yes, without a doubt! More than an icon, an object of ridicule, she is a human being.

Can I challenge you to pray for her today? If you believe what God says about Himself, that nothing is impossible with Him, then you must believe that He can save her soul too. Imagine what a testimony that could be?

Let’s pray that God sends believers into her life, especially now when her soul is crying out for help; and pray that ultimately God glorifies Himself by giving her the precious gift of salvation.

What mgiht Jesus would say to Britney Spears?

For starters, I think Jesus would tell Britney that He loves her and is the answer to what seems like a desperate cry for help. Plus, He might tell her that His Word is truth and she might want to read Paul's scripture.

The "last days" that Paul wrote about refer to the days after the resurrection of Jesus and will continue until Christ's second coming. This means that not only are we living in the "last days" now, but every day that we live brings us closer to the return of Christ.

Paul says that "people will be lovers of self...of pleasure rather than lovers of God".

It's pretty obvious that poor Britney Spears is pretty messed up. When you consider her perspective on material possessions, the flaunting of her body and the abuse of it, her take on marriage, and her lack of being a responsible parent, there's no doubt that she loves herself and godless pleasure rather than God.

We claim to be followers of Jesus. But what do we seek more often, pleasure or God?

Worldly pleasures are easily obtainable, while God is uncontainable. The pleasures available in this life seem to benefit us now, while the benefits of loving God are often in the future.

Loving God rather than loving pleasure means we must let go of our pride, selfish desires, and accomplishments. Loving God with all of our heart, strength and mind requires complete surrender to God in every part of our lives.

How can we connect today's story to Jesus's story, and to our own stories?

* Pray for Britney Spears to encounter Jesus. Pray that someone who knows Jesus will have the opportunity to learn her story and share their story of faith and God's Story with Britney.
* The topic of loving pleasure rather than God is illustrated every day in our culture and especially in the media. Ask your friends what they think about Britney's struggles? Listen carefully for their story. Look for those moments when you can be real about your own struggles in this area. This would be a great way to share part of your story.
