Aug 9 2007Pop-ups/adware/other crap
Are any of you guys getting pop-ups for some drive cleaner or adware or some other crap? We've gotten a few emails and we're trying to figure out what the hell is going on. We haven't authorized any of that stuff and haven't put any on the site, so we're having a hell of a time trying to figure out where it's coming from. If you've seen or not seen the pop-up, leave a comment with some helpful info so we can get to the bottom of this. And if you have any experience with this sort of thing, any helpful advice would be appreciated.
NOTE: If you are getting the pop-up, is it only when you visit this site? Nobody here can recreate the problem so we can't figure out if it's actually coming from the site.
UPDATE: I'm shutting down the comments because I think it's safe to say there's a serious problem with one of our ad servers. If you've got any additional info that might be helpful you can contact us using the regular contact form. Right now we're contacting all of our ad brokers and by the power of Grayskull I swear we will get this thing fixed.

2. Tiffany - August 9, 2007 9:33 AM
I have not seen the pop up--don't know if that helps you or not.
3. miramire - August 9, 2007 9:34 AM
not getting anything... or at least nothing that gets through firefox.
4. Brooke - August 9, 2007 9:34 AM
Yesterday I came on to the site and before the whole page could load I was taken to another site that was something about downloading a virus scanner....
5. ccc - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
I got a pop-up that said something about my computer storing files from adult websites and how that could compromise my career or relationship. Right. Then some sort of drive cleaner popped up and started loading.
6. Mer - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
Yup, I've gotten it twice. It's definitely coming from this site. I get a "driver cleaner" pop up and then my anti-virus kicks in and it' an hour long affair to get it all back off the computer.
7. K - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
I got pop ups when I clicked on the pics of McPhee, it said my computer keeps track of all adult sites visited and that press OK to clean my drive. I closed the pop up window and then all my windows closed
8. Stickman - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
I've been getting it every now and then, it tries to stick a trojan on your drive.
9. ash - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
i get the pop up each time a visit...when i get it, it takes over the actual page im looking at. when you press cancel, its still on the screen and you need to X out to get rid of it.
10. david - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
yes i got the popup a few minutes ago
11. nowfull - August 9, 2007 9:35 AM
It happened about 10 times over the last week.
12. Rachilla - August 9, 2007 9:36 AM
Yep- got the drive cleaner pop up last night when I tried to look at the Britney pics. I kept hitting cancel and the x, but it kept re-popping up. It looked pretty convincing. I couldn't go back or get out of the pop ups until I closed the whole page.
13. lgg - August 9, 2007 9:36 AM
i did the other day, and i clicked on one of them and my computer told me that some really important windows thing was replaced by a different one and that if i didn't put in the windows cd, it wouldn't work right. it didn't, i had to borrow a friends windows xp cd, but it's all good now.
14. Granpa - August 9, 2007 9:36 AM
Using Firefox.
Get no pop-ups.
15. Lex - August 9, 2007 9:37 AM
Yea, I've gotten pop ups for drive cleaners two or three times on two different computers.
16. arco - August 9, 2007 9:38 AM
yes, I get this probably 50% of the time I visit your site. it resizes the window and pretends to be loading a Virus scanner. the usual annoying 'close one box opens another'. I am using Firefox, by the way. I should have made a note of the site name but I usually get the hell outta there. I am not in the US, so this may have a bearing on why not everyone is getting this.
17. Brian - August 9, 2007 9:38 AM
Yep, I got it last night...had to close out of the browser to get it to close.
18. E - August 9, 2007 9:38 AM
Yep I've gotten the pop up many times. Only get it from this site. When you try to close it, it forces the whole superficial page to go too.
19. MND - August 9, 2007 9:39 AM
It happens w/firefox as well. Just started w/in the last week or so. Its a nasty one too - you have to close out of several instances before its gone.
20. Zach - August 9, 2007 9:39 AM
I've seen both the adult site scanner and the drive cleaner a few times this week. It has usually been when I've x'ed out of this site or left to a different site.
21. bread - August 9, 2007 9:39 AM
I've gotten the pop-up many times. I'll click on a thumbnail for a photo, and all of a sudden, my browser will appear to close out, and the pop-up rectangle will appear at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen. It is for the "drive-cleaner" you referenced. When I click on the "X" button, one of the following things happens: another one pops up until I "X" that one out, a page-sized pop-up for the cleaner appears making me some offer, or my browser will reopen, but I have to get myself back to the tab with superficial.com.
There is no rhyme or reason to when it happens. Sometimes, it's a week or two between incidences. Other times, it's more than once in the same day.
The next time it happens, I'll take down the company's info and add an additional comment.
22. C - August 9, 2007 9:39 AM
I have been getting a drive cleaner pop-up, usually after visiting your site. After that happens, my Norton Anit-Virus tells me it's a virus. Clearly, I am not a computer person so I don't know if I'm providing you with useful info, but...
23. andres - August 9, 2007 9:40 AM
I have screenshots of the popup in progress if you want them.
24. fran - August 9, 2007 9:40 AM
i get it from other sites sometimes, from what i ahve heard if you accept it the only way to get rid of it is to buy a disk that will wipe it from the pc, so its basically just a way of making money.
25. P.G - August 9, 2007 9:40 AM
Yup...I've gotten the same things about adult websites and a driver cleaner. I run AdAware a few times a day and lately it seems that everytime I run it after going to this site, I have some pretty nasty stuff on my computer. I pretty sure it's only off this site.
26. kate - August 9, 2007 9:40 AM
i've got it a few times only from this site when trying to look at the pics, its one of those that still open the website even when you hit x/say no
27. J - August 9, 2007 9:40 AM
Got it a couple of times yesterday. I was wondering what was going on (I used to get it a lot in the past with multiple other sites). I'm convinced it is "thesuperficial.com"-specific though.

28. kelly - August 9, 2007 9:41 AM
I have been getting pop-ups re: needing a scan of my computer and then a redirect. I use Firefox also but it seems to be able to get through. It only happens on this site.
29. knull - August 9, 2007 9:41 AM
i got it when i clicked on britney's photo to open it in a new tab.
i get bumped to this URL
http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/index.php?p=43&ax=1&ex=1&z=-4&link=intl&ad=plandeep_us_en_ed2&aff=
and it even tries to install software, but im on a mac, so nothing happens.
firefox.
30. Brittle - August 9, 2007 9:41 AM
I'm running the most current version of firefox and just got the pop-up. I believe this is the second time to happen with this website (which happens to be my homepage) in about two weeks. Usually happens when I click on photos.
31. Chipmunk - August 9, 2007 9:41 AM
I've been getting the one about tracking adult sites and the drive cleaner one almost every time I visit. I've also had to close the window out altogether to get rid of it.
32. 15 - August 9, 2007 9:41 AM
Yeah, I get a drive cleaner pop-up every so often.
33. A - August 9, 2007 9:42 AM

39. Darkeyed21 - August 9, 2007 9:43 AM
I'm getting them when i click on pictures.. it happened with mcpee as well..
40. Misty - August 9, 2007 9:43 AM
Yes, it started on Monday for me. Sometimes the Superficial isn't even finished loading when the pop-up re-directs to some other drive cleaner website and then crashes my browser (Safari).
41. mark - August 9, 2007 9:43 AM
No popups with firefox.
42. M - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
Yes, i get the pop-up, it does not happen all the time, and it is for a spam blocker. please make it go away.
43. Bean - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
Yes, I just visited this site after farting around for an hour elsewhere and it came up right away and completely took over. I had to close my window and start again. This - so far - is the only place where I have seen this pop-up.
44. janie - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
I got it a couple times yesterday, it only happened when I clicked on a group of thumbnail pics, such as the brittney in the pool pics, or the hiedi montag boob job pics. Hopefully you can figure it out.
45. Timothy - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
I'm getting pop-ups alright, in my pants! HA! Yeah! (running around the room high fiving my inflatable dolls supermodel girlfriends)
46. Cara - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
I just got the pop up. So far i have only gotten it at this site. I am using firefox.
47. Lindsay - August 9, 2007 9:44 AM
I do not remember the name of the company, but last week I had a pop up for a computer program to clean my computer. Everytime I clicked on a picture or article it would pop up. I thought something was wrong so I left the site and came back and it still had that ad pop up. I takes you to another site and won't let you come back to your site. This probably doesn't help that much. It hasn't bothered me this week.
48. Paul - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
Yes I get it everytime i click on any article or pic.
49. racerz - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
You won't believe this, I got the popup trying to enter into this comments page to say I got the popups!!!
I am using firefox, latest version, and it bumps me to http://amaena.com/securityworm5827/index.php?lid=intl&ax=1&ex=1&p=4&aid=plandeep_au_en_ed2
trying to get me to install winantivirus pro.
Only get it from this site, if that helps.
50. Hash - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
Yep, getting it. Clicked on one of the Katherine McPhee pics. Here's the URL it takes me to:
http://errorsafe.com/download/2007/index.php?ax=1&ex=1&ed=2&aid=0therye5&lid=intl&affid=&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]&aid=0therye5_rdt
51. Felipe - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
Using Opera. No pop-up, not even when I click Britney´s skanky pics.
52. PJ - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
I was geting the popups while using internet explorer but now i'm using Firefox and I've only seen it once.
I think this happened at the same time I was noticing that annoying white contraception lawsuit ad in the banner.
IMHO - I think your site is a little higher class than to be allowing sexually related content onto it's banner ads, regardless if it's just about a lawsuit. The ad itself kinda turned me off for a few days, as well as the annoying popup.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!
53. Lovely - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
I keep getting "everysite you go to is being tracked by your computer" it sends me to another website... and then kicks me offline...
54. Heather - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
Yes, and it's driving me nuts. I hadn't isolated the problem to your Web site though. Keep us posted.
55. *** - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM

56. Joe - August 9, 2007 9:45 AM
http://reddit.com/info/212mr/comments
This may help, It seems like the same thing happened to them.
57. Ryan - August 9, 2007 9:46 AM
I also got the message over at Egotastic.com when I clicked on the lastest Britney Spears story. It said something about "monitoring adult sites you've visited"
58. Bethany - August 9, 2007 9:46 AM
I've seen the pop up and it's usually once you click the jump or click on a picture. Then it closes out this page and shrinks the whole browser to a small pop up saying that the computer has been infected and to click ok to install clean-up. Once you "X" that pop up it has about 2-4 more that pop up saying "Click ok to start install" or "computer won't be cleaned until you click ok"
Strange stuff. Good luck to you!
59. karly - August 9, 2007 9:46 AM
ive gotten it too. it was on one of the britney photos. i dont remeber the site thought
60. Susan - August 9, 2007 9:46 AM
You may want to check with the advertisers on your page. Some advertisers are know to do shady stuff (like automatically download adware/spyware) when someone clicks on their ad. Double check on that.
61. Laurie - August 9, 2007 9:47 AM
I have seen the pop-up several times. My company's virus scan system picked it up and disposed of it automatically, but then I had to reboot. I saw it for the first time on Monday.
62. Roz - August 9, 2007 9:47 AM
I've never gotten a pop-up on this site.
63. Tehprincess - August 9, 2007 9:47 AM
Yep i do had this cleaner pop up window the other day but apparently today it seems i don't... And i only had it on this website.
64. Kate - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
Yes, I was getting the pop-up about there being adult material on my 'puter too and another one but I got rid of it fast. SEem to be gone now
65. ashley - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
i just got it looking at the pictures of britney in the pool. at first i thought the IT narcs at work finally caught me red-handed. negative.
i took a screen shot of the error message and emailed it to you guys. I use Firefox as a web browser... i had two tabs open in one window. When the error message popped up, it made my browser disappear. I tried force quitting Firefox from my dock (I use a Mac) but it wouldn't let me. When I clicked cancel, my window reappeared as it was.
i am so hungover. i have no idea where all this brainpower is coming from. i can't even remember last night.
66. k-dubs - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
Yes, has happened 3 times, have strong anti-virus firewall at work so not sure. Forced to scan my computer every time..
67. Viepr - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
Defiently somthing comming from you guys i got redirected to this site a couple of times.

68. Clint - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
It is a Windows Internet Explorer box and it says:
NOTICE: If your copmuter has been running slower than normal, it may be infected with Viruses, Adware or Spyware. WinAntiVirus PRO can perform a quick and completely FREE scan of your system for malicious programs. Download WinAntiVirus PRO FREE now!
it then loads this page:

69. michelle - August 9, 2007 9:48 AM
Every time I go to click on a picture, it comes up...security administrator...download this program right away...so I have to exit out of the internet all together and then redo everything. Very Annoying!!! It does it on almost every set of pics I try to see.
70. IT Admin - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
site is fine... of course am running firefox under Ubutu. :)
71. double - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
I've gotten the pop-up. This is the only site on which I have gotten it. It popped up when I was trying to enlarge Katherine McPhee's ass.
72. Scott - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
Yup. Got it here this morning, and nowhere else. I frequent the other anticlown sites and haven't had the problem on the others; just thesuperficial.
73. gail - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
I got the pop up when I tried to access the comments section of this article. I also get the pop up when I visit laineygossip.com.
74. Brian - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
I've never gotten any sort of pop ups or spyware from this site. It sounds like something a co-worker of mine got from some porn sites. After he got it, that computer was displaying the same pop ups that everyone else is talking about.
75. cr - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
i got it last night while viewing the brit spears/pool pics.
76. Lars - August 9, 2007 9:49 AM
I would contact doubleclick.net about this. Because I'm pretty sure the drivercleaner ad comes from their service
77. Styles - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
The site is also redirecting to " http://newbieadguide.com/ " as well.
Using firefox with adblock, I've blocked out all the redirect sites and that's been working for me.
78. Joel - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
I saw the same popup, but only on my computer running vista. It does not have a virus scan on it. My work comuter has XP pro and has not had the issue(has a virus scan too). I use firefox on both.
Not sure if that helps.
79. sa - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
i get the pop up every fifth time I visit the site
80. Rob - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
I sometimes get the pop-up for a drive cleaner when I click on one of your pictures. It doesn't happen every time, though.
81. Krister - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
I've not gotten pop-ups but I usually visit via Google Reader and I use Safari.
82. Richard - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
I use Firefox and I got one after trying to open a picture.

83. Jenna - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
Yes, I got 2 pop ups the other day about the driver cleaner or something. I'm using firefox and on a mac.
84. jrzmommy - August 9, 2007 9:50 AM
yep, got it the last three days in a row., including today...freezes up my computer. Annoying little son of a bitch, too. But I only get it one time a day.. the first time I log on to the Fish. in the morning....I don't get it any other time I come back.
85. Dana - August 9, 2007 9:51 AM
I'm getting it every time I try to get on this site only. It has happened the past few days.
86. No I'm not like that - August 9, 2007 9:51 AM
Please feel free to spam them as much as possible here:
http://drivecleaner.com/affiliates/
Also, from a Q & A:
I keep getting annoying pop up advertising Driver-cleaner which is hard to close?
you have spyware infections.
go to www.download.com and download Adaware SE Personal and Spybot Search & Destroy. If you have a legitimate copy of Windows Xp then also go to microsoft.com and download the Windows Defender. Remember to run the Update facilty for each of the these progs then run them on a regular basis to keep spyware away from your computer.
87. bex - August 9, 2007 9:51 AM
i get the pop up about my computer storing info from adult sites i've visited and then a drive cleaner starts loading ..........it's only happening on this site and its happening about once every 3 times i come on and also sometimes when you click to enlarge photos it comes up!
88. BigMac - August 9, 2007 9:52 AM
Yep...
I was getting send to some other site after viewing 5-8 images on your site.
I would have to hit the back button to view the image and then after 5-8 pictures it would do it again.
There is a place in HELL for people who do stuff like this.
89. Alli - August 9, 2007 9:52 AM
I have gotten it at least five times, on different computers and only from this web-site. One is the thing that says adult content could jeopardize your career or relationship, and offers to scan computer. The other one is for virus protection.
90. Claire - August 9, 2007 9:52 AM
I have been getting them when visiting your site for the last 2 days. They are asking me to install some kind of software and they say that is is required or recommended. It is really weird. It is usually when I click on the additional pictures under your entries.
Good Luck figuring it out!
91. Caroline - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM
I've been getting the message, I've gotten a few different ones that say different things but they are all related. It's not when I am only on this site, I get them when even nothing is running.
92. Brian - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM
Alias: WinAntiVirus, WinAntiVirus 2005, WinAntiVirus 2006, WinAntiVirus Pro, Win Anti Virus, WinAntiVirus Pro 2006
Description: WinAntiVirus (WinAntiVirus 2005, WinAntiVirus 2006, WinAntiVirus Pro) is a ransomware anti-spyware product that is secretly installed by the Vundo Trojan. Other trojans are also known to install WinAntiVirus. WinAntiVirus - or the trojan that installs it - starts generating warning messages claiming system infection in order to force users into purchasing the full version of the program.
Threat risk: Very High Risk
Highly dangerous spyware. Usually it may log keyboard activity of the user and take snapshots of the system. It uses stealth installation and its removal is very difficult.
Symptoms:
1) Popup messages claiming that your computer is infected.
2) Installation of WinAntiVirus without your concent.
3) Hijacked homepage.
4) Popup advertisements: adultfriendfinder.com, friendfinder.com, casino-related and porn popups.
Some versions of Zlob Trojan add these files to the SYSTEM folder: dcomcfg.exe, regperf.exe, simpole.tlb, stdole3.tlb, atmclk.exe, ixt*.dll, vtsqn.dll, Winantiviruspro.exe ishost.exe, ismon.exe, isnotify.exe, issearch.exe, thiselt.exe, isamonitor.exe, pmsngr.exe.
I would recommend AdAware, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and/or HiJack This to handle it. (Google search will find any of the 3 easily.. didnt want to spam other sites)
93. Chris - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM
I've seen the pop up once when coming to this site. It's definiately not only your site though. I've seen it tons of times, seems to happen a lot more at my work PC than at home on my Mac.
It's annoying as shit.
94. Brenda - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM
I have not seen the pop ups. most likely who ever is getting the pop ups have spyware or a virus on their computer causing it. not your site.
95. newmanjax - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM
I'm gettting a pop up saying 'error detected' / it then closes your site and then it redirects me to the following site: http://amaena.com/securityworm5/index.php?lid=intl&ax=1&ex=1&aid=plandeep_us_en_ed2
96. Cobra - August 9, 2007 9:54 AM
Using both Firefox and IE 6. No pop-ups here.
97. Jhani - August 9, 2007 9:54 AM
yea got it all morning... Im using safari for mac OS X and every second time I visit your site I have a look at it for 1-2 sec and then it turns into a pop-up on the actual window, which you cant exit without closing the whole window... Very annoying...
98. jenny - August 9, 2007 9:55 AM
yep, got the full screen takeover on the drive cleaner thing. am outside the US but have firefox and it still got through. first time it's ever happened though...
99. Brian - August 9, 2007 9:55 AM
"94. Brenda - August 9, 2007 9:53 AM

Yeah.... what Brenda said
100. theShizaan - August 9, 2007 9:55 AM
Yea, when I looked at the pics of Katherine McPhee's booty I got a major pop-up.
Seriously, I've gotten the drive-cleaner pop-up lately but can't remember if it came from your site or another one. Seems like it is pervasive though, and maybe not isolated to your website. Good luck!
101. Caroline - August 9, 2007 9:55 AM
Although I think it is related to this site because it's when I am here that the window kinda blinks then disappears and shrinks into the window that has the message and stuff and that doesn't happen at any other website.
102. hannah - August 9, 2007 9:57 AM
i get the pop-up only when I click on some pictures..Im on a mac using firefox
103. ThatDude - August 9, 2007 9:57 AM
I have gotten it many times looking at images
From some time spent in the Computer Security Industry it looks like someone is intermittently hacking your site. Just adding a bit of code here and there that redirects the user to a different URL. it does not happen all the time and it happens only on a few images when you click on it. Someone will need to check the links to make sure nothing has been added to the site. IF you are sharing a server with your hosting company, it could also mean that the server you are one has another site that has been hacked and you are just getting spill over.
ThatDude
104. Jane - August 9, 2007 9:57 AM
I got a message that said my computer was storing files from adult websites, and it then asked me if I wanted to install a drive cleaner (which was a virus). It only happened once, so I don't remember that name of it.
105. will - August 9, 2007 9:57 AM
yes, I get a pop-up (clicks thru to a redirect) to drivecleaner, whether u click yes or no it still refreshes the page to the drivecleaner site. This happens every time I visit the site and stay on the first page for more than 15 seconds or so.
I'm using Safari on a Mac
The drivecleaner site is fraudulent - it claims to scan my computer and find porn and all kindsa bad stuff (without my permission) but it isn't doing so - it's just an animation (refers to Windows etc, hello! I'm a Mac, doh!)
For sure this pop-up action is embedded in your site code, whether u wanted it to be or not.
I think some people block pop-ups without knowing it so you're gonna get some mixed messages. Hope u sort it out ;)
106. Carolina - August 9, 2007 9:57 AM
I've been getting the pop up here and also at egotastic.com
107. willtherealvictorpleasestandup - August 9, 2007 9:58 AM
uhh it just happed right now three times when i tried to comment! and it's only happened when i'm on this site. It happens both on my mac at work, using foxfire & at home on my PC using explorer. Not that I have any sort of knowledge about computers, but i would say it's definitely your site.
108. lowbie - August 9, 2007 9:58 AM
No popups here or at the work PC.
Using linux/firefox - with root!
109. Docaluci - August 9, 2007 9:58 AM
This AM about 6:30 est. it happened to me. Only happened on your site. Very hard to close or cancel it. It kept popping up. but since then I'd opened the site without the same popup.
110. Nanny Ogg - August 9, 2007 9:59 AM
Haven't seen anything myself but I'd guess that it's one or more of the things you're getting from Google that's the problem.
Turn off the adverts for a while & see if they problem goes away.
111. Kari - August 9, 2007 9:59 AM
Thursday 9:55 EDT - got the driver cleaner popup when clicking on the first McPhee photo. Using Firefox on a Mac G4 - Mac OSX 10.4.10.
112. Paul - August 9, 2007 9:59 AM
It's google-antics.com, your google ads on this site. Malicious companies advertise with google and make programs that cause pop-ups on sites like this that run google ads. Myspace had a massive attack at the start of June and so did Tom's Hardware (both are suing google).
The only way to stop it is to download Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and the extension NoScript. Then you ban all java script. If you are getting messages it's too late your computer is infected.
Good Luck
113. Lynne Tilley - August 9, 2007 9:59 AM
I get the pop up the first time I during the day that I go onto your website. It takes me out of your site and onto a 'drive cleaner' and in order to get rid of it I have to shut down Internet Explorer. I use Norton Anti-virus as protection and am in the UK if this helps.
114. Dave - August 9, 2007 10:00 AM
I got the pop-up yesterday afternoon when I moved the mouse. It was on the right side of the screen and I moved to click on a picture in one of the features. I don't know what the mouse-over hit.
115. al - August 9, 2007 10:00 AM
yes..pop-ups. since last night...
116. rd - August 9, 2007 10:00 AM
Just got the pop-up 30 seconds after I read yoyu cannot reproduce it.
(a) I used forefox
(b) I clicked the Entertainment button then from that site clicked back here
the pop up was the you need a drive cleanup thing with http://amaena.com
117. Allknowingone - August 9, 2007 10:01 AM
Here's a (hopefully) useful piece of info...It only happens on my computer if I follow the link to this sight from TMZ's website. Their home page has a list of blog sites running down the left side of the page. Click on The Superficial from that list and then once in this site, click on jumps and photos. I get the screen takeover for the drive cleaner.
118. Jenners - August 9, 2007 10:01 AM
I had the popup happen once only yesterday. It happened when I clicked on a link for a larger picture ( I believe it was the wedgie picture specifically).
119. Nick Pollotta - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
If anybody has been getting Spyware, or Adware, simply go to www.Download.com and you can get free spyware and adware blockers.
I highly reccommend: Zone Alarm (firewall), Spybot, Ad-Aware, and AVG Anti-Virus.
It's free, installs easy, and works great.
Nick
120. Michaela - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
Two days ago I got a couple pop-ups where it closed the superficial window. Hasn't happend since.
121. Sara B. - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
Yes, I had that happen last week, and only on this site. It said something about "you've been browsing adult material and have infected your hard drive", blah blah.
122. Jillian - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
I got the pop-up when I clicked on the mcphee pictures. it goes from the page you were on straight to the drivecleaner site, in which I clicked the hell out of there!
123. Brittany - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
I came to the main page and it loaded for a few seconds then redirected me to this site:
http://newbieadguide.com/statsg.php?campaign=plandeep&u=1186667989497
I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.2 (I know, I need to update).
124. Pamela - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
I do get the pop up! I have been getting it all week and it is only when I visit your site. It reads like a warning about viewing adult content and tried to get me to download a piece of protective software. It warns me that' viewing such content can reult in the loss of my job and even destroy my marriage'. Goodluck!
125. Scout - August 9, 2007 10:02 AM
It's been happening for a few days on Safari (mac), Firefox (mac) & IE (windows). I got it on this site, TMZ.com and X17.com
126. adl - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
I get the message, only when I visit your website
127. LouLou - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
Well, I did get the popup yesterday, but only after looking at the site a minute or so. I recognized it as the type that if clicked on, can cause a virus to spread to my computer so I left the site and deleted it without clicking on it (control/alt/delete). It's an official microsoft looking box that says something like 'the adult content sites you've visited are logged on your hard drive. Click to remove.' From my past experience with a virus, clicking on a box like this will cause a virus and it looks like an official microsoft warning to trick you. Anyhow, on my subsequent two tries to visit superficial.com, my browser was taken over and I was redirected to another site, although I left it quickly so I can't tell you what it was. Everything seems to be working fine this morning. I was almost afraid to go to superficial.com for fear of being hijacked again.
128. Here's Your Sign - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
I've gotten this annoying intrusion several times while visiting the site. It seems to happen without any particular pattern, but normally when clicking to display the images.
Using Firefox 2.x
129. austin - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
I just got the one about adult crap being on my computer and offering to clean my hard drive for me. It actually closed my firefox window and that was all that was on my screen in the lower right-hand corner. I clicked it shut but it came back up and I clicked "cancel" on it and it opened up a new window for their product. Really annoying!
130. lowbie - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
Also, this could be caused by an advert in rotation. Hasnt been the first time this kind of thing has happened. (insert random hacked ad server from register.co.uk here)
Which would explain the randomness for some of the users here. If it is using a flash call or something... could be worth while looking into.
131. Kate - August 9, 2007 10:03 AM
i got the error message telling me that my computer tracks adult sites and blah blah blah and then told me to install a drive cleaner. it has also happened before, but i only find it happens when clicking on pictures. i saved a screenshot of the initial message if that is helpful.
132. NotHere - August 9, 2007 10:04 AM

http://amaena.com/securityworm5827/index.php?lid=intl&ax=1&ex=1&p=4&aid=plandeep_us_en_ed2
These two URLs appear in my browser when it happens.
133. Beld - August 9, 2007 10:04 AM
I don't get the pop up and I don't have a pop up blocker either.
I expect the people saying they do have some form of spyware .
but hey what do I know
134. Daniel - August 9, 2007 10:05 AM
I don't get it through firefox, but I do get it through IE7. It is an ad for WinVirus pro or some crap like that. It redirected the site, and when closed it closed out IE7 entirely.
135. Ron - August 9, 2007 10:05 AM
yeah, I'm getting the pop-ups too
136. DC - August 9, 2007 10:05 AM
I have gotten the "drive cleaner" pop ups about 4-5 times in the past week. Luckily norton has caught it and blocked any access each time although I have to then scan to remove it. Have only gotten the drive cleaner pop ups on this sight and always when clicking on pictures to see.
137. Kevin - August 9, 2007 10:05 AM
I got the pop up yesterday but the first time I encountered it was over at Egotastic.
138. Sara B. - August 9, 2007 10:05 AM
I just had it happen right now! For something called "Error Safe". Different than the first time. It closed this window and took me to another website.
139. G - August 9, 2007 10:06 AM
I have gotten that popup, but not from your site. I ran my spyware checkers and fixed the popup problems.
140. Becca - August 9, 2007 10:06 AM
I clicked next page and the site morphed into an evil pop-up fir a drive cleaners
141. andshewas - August 9, 2007 10:06 AM
I've gotten the pop up at home, but I don't get it at work. Don't tell my boss I'm on here at work. haha...
It is a pop up for some sort of computer cleaner and it minimizes the entire browser, and when I clicked the X, it shut down the entire browser. And yes, I only get it from this site.
142. Jacqui - August 9, 2007 10:06 AM
I received a pop up yesterday, but not today. The pop up eventually crashed FireFox and I had to reboot. I hate those things, but they are a part of internet life. On other gossip site, they have happened so much that I have quit going to them. Not here though! Thanks for being so conscientious of your readers, though!!!
143. l'il bit - August 9, 2007 10:06 AM
i am using a mac & firefox and have never seen the pop-up. i also come in through the rss on my browser, though & rarely navigate to the home page. not sure if this helps...
144. Jeff - August 9, 2007 10:07 AM
i just got the pop ups, tried to install some adware problem... after i look at a picture, i hit the back button and poof.... no more superficial.
145. tbracerx - August 9, 2007 10:07 AM
i get it each time i click on a photo and try to open it.... then you cant click the back button and get back to the site you have to close the drive cleaner site and it shuts the internet and you have to start over.....
xoxo
146. Amphetadex - August 9, 2007 10:08 AM
Yeah, I got it when clicking on pictures of something. I'm using Safari on a Mac with OS X
147. MissGreen - August 9, 2007 10:08 AM
I keep getting the pop-up...it is always something about preventing spam and adult sites. What happens is, the superficial site closes, and a small pop-up appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen. It asks a question like, "Do you want to install some program to prevent spam and adult entertainment?" I always press the X to close it out. It closes, but then a huge window opens and covers the whole screen with some adult entertainment site. Then when I close it it goes away, and that's it. It seems to come up randomly though. Sometimes it will come up right when I open the site, even without clicking on anything. Another time it came up when I clicked on "next page." And then a few times it came up when I clicked on pictures.
148. Allie - August 9, 2007 10:08 AM
I got redirected to some sort of virus scanner page when I tried to look at one of the images on your site in a larger view. It also popped up a JavaScript Alert window asking me to install the software. When I clicked cancel it just reduces the size of the window. Eventually I just shut down Firefox and start over.
149. Krissy - August 9, 2007 10:09 AM
Yea I clicked on a picture of a celebrity and it said that I was looking at porn or something and that I was going to ruin my life, get fired, my marriage was going to fall apart (I'm not even married) and that I sucked at everything UNLESS I downloaded the software thing (it was a pop-up). I could tell it was a scam so I just clicked out of it, but it looked pretty "real" except that it looked like the Windows OS set-up and I use a mac. Hope that helps!
150. andshewa - August 9, 2007 10:09 AM
Oh, and to those people who claim to be using firefox, so pop ups don't get through...I use firefox both at home and at work, and I get the pop up at home, and not at work. Same setup. Firefox isn't blocking it at home.
151. Milwaukee's Beast - August 9, 2007 10:09 AM
No pop-ups ever for me (Safari and Firefox browsers under OS-X 10.4.6, Location Germany). I guess the guys who managed to cut it out using Norton & co. may be able to track it down.
152. Erin - August 9, 2007 10:09 AM
NO pop-ups....weird. Love the site!
153. Krissy - August 9, 2007 10:10 AM
Also after I clicked out of the pop-up I googled the software it didn't exist.
154. MM - August 9, 2007 10:10 AM
From what i can tell it only pops up on this site, and it doesn't do it all the time. Yesterday and today i actually had to force quit on my browser because it wouldn't give me an option to cancel out of it's window. It is annoying, that's for sure.
155. Nicole - August 9, 2007 10:10 AM
Yes, I got the drive cleaner twice and a virus scanner once and haven't had this problem with any other sites so far...i'm about to get off the site before it happens again. It seems as if someone has added it somehow. Very annoying...
156. Anna - August 9, 2007 10:10 AM
i got the pop-up a few times, its only on this site and i think it only happens when you click on one of the extra images to enlarge it
157. Maggie - August 9, 2007 10:11 AM
I'm beating a dead horse, but I also get the pop-up...when it happens, I have usually clicked on a picture. I use Firefox and it's annoying because I have to close out the whole program to get rid of it, and I lose all the tabs I had open.
158. doug - August 9, 2007 10:11 AM
Yep, got that drive cleaner once. pretty much had to force quit the browser. pretty aggressive popups. I've also gotten it on another site as well. I believe they were a GN publisher as well.
159. Linda Jones - August 9, 2007 10:11 AM
i got a few pop ups when i first opened the site today. it resized my browser (firefox) and kept trying to get me to download anti virus software. but when i closed the window and tried your site again it didn't happen.
160. coolcat - August 9, 2007 10:11 AM
I got the popup yesterday.
161. Emmie - August 9, 2007 10:12 AM
Get it quite a lot, here and on other sites. I also have a mac and use firefox, and it annoys the hell out of me.
162. WW - August 9, 2007 10:13 AM
When I click on some picture links I get google blocking the page saying that the page contains malware and may be trying to harm my computer.
163. Jessica - August 9, 2007 10:13 AM
I too got the pop ups for the first time about three days ago. I use Firefox and it was only on this site that it happened--twice in a row. I had to close everything. I don't remember what I was looking at when the pop ups began, but I believe it was pictures. Once I skipped that article or section, and moved to the next, it didn't happen again.
164. Laura - August 9, 2007 10:13 AM
I click on a picture and "error detected" pops up and says it's tracking all the adult sites I've been visiting (oh the horror!). It wants to install drive cleaner.
165. Kyle - August 9, 2007 10:13 AM
I got it. It was a popup window that looked like a windows window. I x'ed it out and closed the website, and I was fine. Typically these things will pop up every 25 or 30 or whatever number the code is set at visits to the page....that way not everyone sees it, but a steady flow of folks do...maybe you cant recreate it cause you arent the proper number visitor to the site?...but thats if you put the ad code there....sounds like someone did.
166. April - August 9, 2007 10:13 AM
Yes I've been getting the drive cleaner pop-up only when I come onto this site, for about two weeks now. I haven't seen it anywhere else before. It's annoying because they try to make it look like an official windows alert.
167. Jen - August 9, 2007 10:14 AM
I have seen it several times. Even if you click for the box to go away it comes up anyway and I've had to close out to get it to go away. It hasn't happened in a couple of days.
168. Karen - August 9, 2007 10:14 AM
I have not seen the pop-ups, I use Firefox and Opera web browsers, they have a pretty good popup blocker
169. Lilian - August 9, 2007 10:15 AM
a european IP and i don't get anything.
170. Kate - August 9, 2007 10:15 AM
I have had the pop-up twice, today and a couple days ago, both times when I've clicked on a picture. It's only happened on this site. I have a mac and use safari.
171. Brandon Culpepper - August 9, 2007 10:15 AM
I got the Pop-up also, but only on my first visit to the site. Closed my browser came back and it worked fine. I have not seen this from any other site so far today. I feel for you guys though. I'm a web developer and it really sucks when you can't recreate an issue your users are having. Good luck.
172. Kevin - August 9, 2007 10:15 AM
I have received the adware pop-up 3 or 4 times. It has happened only for this site.
173. CRC - August 9, 2007 10:16 AM

174. Maxwell - August 9, 2007 10:16 AM
I just got the message for the first time.
I use firefox.
I have received the message only once before,
and I believe it was about a week ago.
175. Pixie Pearl - August 9, 2007 10:16 AM
Yep. I'm getting some stuff too about Drive Cleaner. It freaked me out because i have pop up blocker engaged on my mac.
176. LilKitten - August 9, 2007 10:17 AM
I get it every so often from different websites. I have 3 pop-up blockers and still get them.
177. cami - August 9, 2007 10:17 AM
I just got redirected to when I clicked on a Britney photo: http://newbieadguide.com/statsg.php?campaign=plandeep&u=1186668911806
I'm using IE
178. jimbo wales - August 9, 2007 10:17 AM
I'm getting the browser take-over drive cleaner from your site and I'm using the newest firefox on vista.
179. Mieka - August 9, 2007 10:17 AM
Just got redirected to this site when I clicked on next page. The site didn't open but hoped that the url could give you some clue...
http://newbieadguide.com/statsg.php?campaign=plandeep&u=1186668884325
good luck and keep up the good work!!! I have become addicted to your site. I need a good celeb payout before I go to bed each night.
180. nydiva - August 9, 2007 10:17 AM
I got a pop up for some type of drive cleaner or something to protect against porn/nsfw sites etc. I thought maybe it was because of the topless pix of Brit and that it was on my end (b/c I am at work)...but then I checked the boring Siena shots, than to superficial home, then onto Brit and no other pop-up...
181. seb - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
I got it a few times, and it seems really strange because I even got it when I browse the website in my RSS reader which usually turn off javascript and prevent gmail from working (for exemple). When my "real" browser is set to block all ads and crap like that I don't have it. When it does not block, I got it from time to time. Hope it helps.
182. Tori - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
I had it a week ago, and it happened when I clicked on a picture. The only way to get around it was to ctl alt delete out of firefox...
183. Bill - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
I'm assuming that when you figure out which ads are carrying the triggers for these pop-ups they will be banned from ever advertising with you (or Google or whoever) in the future...
PS: On the mac, we see the pop-up, but are immune to the Trojan :)
184. Linsay Bell - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
I keep getting this pop-up that closes thesuperfical.com down and tells me that they've found porn and that it could ruin my marriage and job. nice. happened a couple of times through internet explorer and on a PC. I also have a pop-up blocker so I don't understand.
Hope this helps...
185. PJ - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
I just got it while on X17online.com.. I went there after I got done with your site.
I'm Using Firefox
186. Laura - August 9, 2007 10:18 AM
amaena.com
I've gotten the pop-up before on other sites, it pulls down the window and then no matter if you click "okay" or "cancel" it redirects you to drivecleaner.com or something of the sort.
187. Mike Linhardt - August 9, 2007 10:19 AM
I get a pop-up from the following anti-virus software site:
www.winantivirus.com
its for a product called, Win Anti Virus Pro 2007.
You get a pop up saying that your computer is running slow, and may be infected with viruses. it then asks you to install their product. When you say cancel or close, it automatically takes you their website.
Hope this helps!
188. Tori - August 9, 2007 10:19 AM
Using Safari on an Apple, I have had this problem (very unusual on a Mac.) After about ten seconds of viewing the website, it automatically redirects away from the page to the drive scan promotional page, and creates a siultanteous pop up saying that suspicious files have been found on your drive. Attempts to back button back to your page don't work-- the browser window has to be shut down. This has only happened on your website. Hope that helps.
189. Kim - August 9, 2007 10:19 AM
I received the pop-up yesterday after visiting this site.
190. annon - August 9, 2007 10:20 AM
yes, i've gotten in a few times. it closes your site and a box about whether or not to download a spyware program pops up, then when i X out of that, it redirects me to some other spam site. it's only on this website, i'm not having problems anywhere else.
191. Katie - August 9, 2007 10:20 AM
I get it as well sometimes. It's about an adult site tracker and a disc cleanup to get rid of the "tracker" on my computer. I get it from you and actually 2 other websites (TMZ and theblemish.com--not sure if i should have named those, oh well). I also use firefox.
192. BigT - August 9, 2007 10:20 AM
Nothing on my end. I don't have a pop up blocker turned on. I am running IE 7 so I don't know if that makes a difference.
193. kate - August 9, 2007 10:21 AM
yup. i'm using firefox in OS X and i saw the pop up. i view the site through RSS and i clicked on one of the stories to look at one of the pictures. after it loaded i got the pop up for the drive cleaner. i haven't gotten it anywhere else but this site.
194. Lurline - August 9, 2007 10:22 AM
I, like Tori, have received the popups as well while running Safari. It's only on your page and it seems to be random. I can quit the browser and reload your page, go to the same link that I went before, and not have it happen.
Hope you figure out what is up.
195. steph - August 9, 2007 10:22 AM
i'm on firefox too, but i've never had any problem with pop-ups on this site.
196. Twinkles - August 9, 2007 10:23 AM
I am using latest Firefox and yeah it's happened a few times, completely crashes my browser when it happens as well - had to avoid the site for a couple of days but it seems ok so far this afternoon at least :D It was definitely from the Superficial though.
197. nellie - August 9, 2007 10:23 AM
it's only been for this site that the pop ups have occurred. i get two, and one is another site and one is a little box referring me to some system clean up because my computers "adult "sites have been tracked, although i'd have to say i haven't been to any.
am i going to get some sort of virus from this?
198. Murph - August 9, 2007 10:23 AM
http://www.errorprotector.com/free/index.php?l=1&ctx=1&epp=1&aid=plandeep&lid=intl&affid=&aft=plandeep_in2&lft=intl
That is the website that came up.
I haven't figured out how to get a screen shot to send to you guys. (still working on that)
Time to go run my spyware check.
199. michael x - August 9, 2007 10:23 AM
Its coming from one of your adverts, if ad block is turned on it stops the pop up
200. Kat - August 9, 2007 10:24 AM
I am getting the pop up too. I have a pop up blocker that works really well, but this one still gets through. It completely takes me out of this website and takes me to that one.
201. MN - August 9, 2007 10:25 AM
I've gotten the one that ccc has gotten, but not just on this website. If you hit "cancel", it then blanks out the web page and says that there is an error. I have gotten it here and on a couple of news sites like MSNBC and FOX. Only happened here and on those sites once, but it was more than a little disturbing!
202. MAF - August 9, 2007 10:25 AM
Looks like you were hacked. If you are using a CMS like Wordpress, you may want to upgrade to the newest stable version. I design websites that are run by Wordpress and other CMS's and sometimes they get injection hacked, which causes popups and other annoying crap. Look at your code, you may find things there that shouldn't be.
203. Anna - August 9, 2007 10:26 AM
the popup says....
"Notice: if your computer has been running slower than normal, it may be infected with viruses, adware or spyware. Win AntiVirus Pro can perform a quick and completely free scan of your system for malicious programs. Download Win AntiVirus Pro FREE today"
and then it tell you that your machine is infected with the bloodhound virus
204. Tessa - August 9, 2007 10:26 AM
With Firefox and Ad-Block I didn't see those popup windows.
205. lastangelman - August 9, 2007 10:26 AM
Damn! this pop up breaks through Sea Monkey, Firefox and Opera
206. Nic - August 9, 2007 10:26 AM
I went to click on a picture and the page crashed except for two pages about a virus scan and cleaner.
207. Mike - August 9, 2007 10:27 AM
I have gotten the pop up three times but it does not happen every site visit. It has happen on average maybe once every 15 or so visits. The first time was last week. If I leave the site and come right back I do not get the pop up. I am using Firefox and have a pop up blocker on.
208. brian - August 9, 2007 10:27 AM
using firefox and i get it maybe one out of every three visits.
209. unfamous mariah - August 9, 2007 10:27 AM
I too have gotten it. It drives me BATTY! It occasionally totally diverts me away from this page to their site without me clicking on anything.
210. böser hase - August 9, 2007 10:28 AM
solution:
install firefox:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
install adblock plus plugin for firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
211. cory - August 9, 2007 10:28 AM
I get the pop up on this site and Shoutwire.
212. Jones - August 9, 2007 10:28 AM
Are we supposed to have the mouseover links from Vibrant? Those are very annoying.
213. speedphreak - August 9, 2007 10:29 AM
I haven't, but I use Firefox and Adblock Plus. Sent a link to a friend yesterday, and he said it was horrible. Popups galore. Tried it on another unprotected machine, and got the same thing. 3 or 4 popups.
214. RHC - August 9, 2007 10:29 AM
Yes, I got the pop-up. The name that comes up in the URL is Amaena, if that is helpful.
215. jill - August 9, 2007 10:29 AM
i got the same pop up. and only when i was on this site. i'm using firefox on a mac, and it usually stops all pop ups. somehow that weaselly one got through. kinda annoying, but honestly, its not that big of a deal.
216. Frank Rizzo - August 9, 2007 10:29 AM
Yeah, I have gotten it a couple times. I got the same add from foxsports too, so don't feel bad. I figured it was due to the copious quantities of cunnilingus porn on my 'puter, and had nothing to do with you.
217. Melissa - August 9, 2007 10:30 AM
I got it today for the first time when I clicked on one of the Britney pics. I use firefox.
218. Name Goes here - August 9, 2007 10:31 AM
Same setup as #10., and I have no popups showing up.
This isn't just your site, it is a lot of different sites. I think possibly a new worm.
219. Ryan - August 9, 2007 10:31 AM
I only get the pop-up on this site.
220. athena - August 9, 2007 10:32 AM
I use firefox. I haven't gotten the ads.
221. Brendalyn - August 9, 2007 10:32 AM
I got the popups a few times...it's only when I click on photos though.
222. Nadia - August 9, 2007 10:32 AM
They come from drivecleaner.com, a really skeevy website that promises to protect readers of "adult web content" from work related or federal investigations with their software for a hefty fee. They close your webpage and direct you to their own--you should sue their asses, as their content is totally unprompted and essentially insinuating that your website is equivalent to questionable/illegal porn content. I almost stopped coming to the site (which I love) because I thought you guys had authorized them....I'll totally write an affadavit on your behalf, these guys are the lowest of the low.
223. Rebecca - August 9, 2007 10:32 AM
Yes, I am getting this crap too. I believe it's Firefox. I can email you screenshots of the warning messages, if you want. Just send me an address.
224. Kim - August 9, 2007 10:32 AM
yes, i've been getting it a lot recently. it closes thesuperficial and brings you to a new site. here is the web address that it brings you to and you can't get back to thesuperficial without opening a new browser.
http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/index.php?p=56&ax=1&ex=1&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]&z=-4&link=intl&ad=0therye5_rdt_us_en_ed2&aff=
225. Rich - August 9, 2007 10:33 AM
I've gotten the pop-up the last few days, only on this site and in Firefox. Real annoying browser hijacker.
226. Emma - August 9, 2007 10:33 AM
Yeah, they just come out of nowhere, and not even in a new window. And I NEVER get popups on my computer. It doesn't happen every time I visit the site though. One out of five times I'd say. It sucks!
227. michael - August 9, 2007 10:33 AM
i get the popup on this site and i'm using firefox. it looks like a firefox plug in and threatens that surfing adult sites could be traced and used against me. very tricky.
228. MU - August 9, 2007 10:33 AM
Same here...got a popup that automatically reloaded my webpage from yours to some virus scanning page. WHen I closed the popup, my browser closed. Went back to your site a couple times and the same thing happened. Then, it just stopped. Everything has been fine since late last night.
229. Emma - August 9, 2007 10:34 AM
Oh, and I use Safari, not Firefox.
230. Heather - August 9, 2007 10:34 AM
Using Firefox on a PC, I read the site through the livejournal feed on my friends page. From my friends page, I clicked on the image of Rumer and got the popup. Hope that helps.
231. Nadia - August 9, 2007 10:34 AM
Now coming from amaena.com as well. And yes, it is only on your site. Blargh!
232. Laura - August 9, 2007 10:34 AM
I have Firefox and ad block software. I got the pop up while reading the Katherine McPhee story. I clicked on one of the pictures and it appeared saying it can track adult sites that have been used by this computer which was awesome because 1) i haven't been to any, unless this one counts and 2) i'm at work! the pop up only appeared once yesterday when I was on this site but so far hasn't come back.
233. Julie - August 9, 2007 10:34 AM
No problem whatsoever but I'm in France...
234. heather - August 9, 2007 10:35 AM
the message says: "NOTICE: If your computer has been running slower than normal, it may be infected with Viruses, Adware or Spyware. WinAntiVirus PRO can perform a quick and completely FREE scan of your system for malicious programs. Download WinAntiVirus PRO FREE now!" and then there's an ok and cancel button. This popped up when I was trying to view a photo on this website, it also directly links you away from the site and to this little popup window, the popup does not show up on top of thesuperficial.com. I have only experienced this from your site. Hope that helped
235. Wanda - August 9, 2007 10:35 AM
I get the pop-up, and when I try to close it I get directed to the download info and knocked off your site. When I try to close it, my computer goes offline. Pain in the arse!
236. jay - August 9, 2007 10:35 AM
getting the pop-up. i've seen it come from other sites as well, it tries to shame you into buying a bogus 'drive cleaner' by claiming everyone knows what adult sites you've visited. the key is to have no shame about such things--if loving 'teen steam' is wrong, i don't want to be right.
237. Audrey - August 9, 2007 10:35 AM
I only experience the problem when I click on any of the thumbnails and try to view the larger picture; which, in fact, just happened. Yay.
The URL that popped up for the "Registry Cleaner," is: http://errorsafe.com/download/2007/index.php?lid=intl&ax=1&ex=1&aid=0therye5_rdt_us_en_ed2
Hope this helps!!
238. Sarah - August 9, 2007 10:36 AM
using Internet Explorer, and no pop-ups....
239. lulu - August 9, 2007 10:37 AM
I definitely DO NOT get a pop up when I come to this site and I never have. I just use the latest Internet Explorer.
240. Sherry - August 9, 2007 10:37 AM
I'm getting the pop-up. It's usually when I click on one of the photos to see it enlarged. It's happened to me twice and only on my computer at home, not my work computer. It's only on this website too. It hasn't happened on any other website. The pop-up is trying to get you to click on a spam site.
241. Murph - August 9, 2007 10:37 AM
HOW TO TAKE SCREENSHOTS:
Since I am retarded and didn't know how to take a screen shot I looked up how to do it (on the off chance someone else wants to know):
hit Prt Scrn key.
Open paint.
His paste
(Yes I feel dumb now)
242. Melissa - August 9, 2007 10:38 AM
THese pop-up are happening only when I come to your website. They suck!
243. deadcannon - August 9, 2007 10:38 AM
Same as Audrey, I get it when I click on the thumbnails to view full pics.
244. Andrea - August 9, 2007 10:38 AM
I also have seen the popup, several times in fact, and it's only been when on your site. I get kicked off your site and put on theirs - devicecleaner or whatever. Thanks.
245. RRuthR6 - August 9, 2007 10:39 AM
I had the exact same problem that Audrey had. Same app name and sam URL. I used ad-aware pro to remove the crap that installed itself on my computer and I didn't have any further problems. It first happen to me when I clicked on Katherine MacPhee's thumbnail to enlarge the picture that you recently posted. I hope that helps!
246. Kate - August 9, 2007 10:39 AM
This is a fairly new computer and I haven't had any problems with pop-ups or anything anywhere else. I get the same ones that everyone else gets here.
247. anon. - August 9, 2007 10:40 AM
i'm getting pop ups, only on this site. i hope you fix it, cause if not i'll stop coming here!
248. carrie - August 9, 2007 10:40 AM
Right as I opened the site it redirected me to the errorsafe.com site and then made my screen small and recommended that I download the software. When I opened this story, a pop up came up asking if I wanted to download the software.
249. anders - August 9, 2007 10:41 AM
I've gotten it here, at imdb.com and mininova.org..
Multiple times on all sites the past month.
250. Julie K - August 9, 2007 10:41 AM
I got my first pop up yesterday. It looked very legitimate and like other responders, wiped off the entire Superficial screen when I deleted it. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention so quickly.
251. powerone - August 9, 2007 10:41 AM
yes I get the pop up only on the first load which I suspect means its connected to the coockie.
252. Caroline - August 9, 2007 10:42 AM
I got it the first time I visited your site this morning, but haven't had it again today and I've been back a few times, never had it before today. I had the sames experience as Andrea, totally redirected to the drivecleaner site.
253. a - August 9, 2007 10:42 AM
I've received it 3 times...two times on my new laptop at home and once on my old computer at work. The first two were about the storing of adult sites that were visited and the third one was about cleaning my drive. It kicks me off of whatever internet browsers I have open. I've only had it happen on this site and it happens at extremely random times.
254. griffin - August 9, 2007 10:43 AM
I get theme even in Safari on OS X. Hugely annoying.
255. Brandi - August 9, 2007 10:43 AM
I only get that pop-up when visiting this site and I have to close out of the superficial to get rid of it.
256. erin - August 9, 2007 10:44 AM
I have gotten the pop-up three times from the site, but it doesn't happen everytime. Thank you for looking into it:)
257. Wendy - August 9, 2007 10:44 AM
YES i have seen the driver crap it just happened when i went to post a comment right now, my security on my computer says its a threat web site and blocked it from my computer, I have also gotten that AD from going on X17 just so you know.
258. Anja - August 9, 2007 10:45 AM
No pop-ups at all.
I use both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
OS: Windows XP.
Country: Netherlands (maybe it depends on the country of origin?)
Good luck
259. WS - August 9, 2007 10:45 AM
No pop-up here. Latest version of Firefox running on XP. Flashblock and Adblock addons installed. 'Block popup windows' turned on in FF options.
260. Vicki - August 9, 2007 10:45 AM
I only get those highly annoying pop ups that are linked with the green, double-underlined text. I just assumed you guys have a deal with MSN since it seems those are linked to MSN search functions. I've seen the same pop ups on a few other gossip sites, but that doesn't make them less obnoxious.
261. CaffeBeotch - August 9, 2007 10:46 AM
Pop up and redirect to a virus scanner/drive cleaner website. Resized my window. Had to close my IE window (IE version 6.0.2800.1106) in order to resolve. Checked my default home page and cleared my cache to be sure it's gone.
262. Sabrina - August 9, 2007 10:46 AM
I ramdomly get the popup and redirect (http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/index.php?p=43&ax=1&ex=1&z=-4&link=intl&ad=plandeep_us_en_ed2&aff=).
263. Sharon - August 9, 2007 10:46 AM
Yup, I only get the pop up at this site.
264. Mo - August 9, 2007 10:47 AM
I got it when I clicked on a picture of Tara Reid.
265. sss - August 9, 2007 10:47 AM
I just got the pop up and then the ad took over my page entirely.
266. AC - August 9, 2007 10:47 AM
I've definitely gotten the pop-up. It shuts down Firefox and starts telling me that adult sites have been accessed and I need this website to clean up my computer. It only happens when I click on individual pictures (the ones you usually post below stories in thumbnail form) to enlarge them. If I just look at the site without clicking anything, it's fine.
Good luck!
267. Whatthehell - August 9, 2007 10:47 AM
I'm getting it everytime I visit and it's really pissing me off.
It's trying to clean my hardrive and then my Anti Virus system has to warn me about it!
268. Anja - August 9, 2007 10:48 AM
FYI (in addition to my post #258): I have no pop-up blockers activated at the moment in IE. (And still no pop-ups).
269. bostoncowgirl - August 9, 2007 10:48 AM
I have gotten the pop-up three times, and only when visiting this site. It's obviously bogus, but is formatted to resemble Windows Command pop-ups, and I'm sure people have allowed this software to invade their computer for this reason. The pop ups happen without user input (clicking on anything)- all three times, I was just moving my mouse to scroll down and it came up. Good luck finding out what's going on- this might be a tough one to find/fix!
A note to all consumers of the Internet: If you receive messages like this from anything BUT your computer's security alert system or the firewalls or anti-spyware, etc. which you installed on your computer yourself, NEVER allow it. Ever.
270. Bea - August 9, 2007 10:48 AM
I use Firefox on my PC and have been hijacked to a drive cleaner website when I click on pictures.
271. hame - August 9, 2007 10:48 AM
In New Zealand and been getting pop's for the last few days. I sit behind a pretty secure firewall at work. It will be sourcing from one of your affiliates (advertising etc).
272. nikki - August 9, 2007 10:48 AM
I get no pop ups. :)
273. Jimmie Johnson - August 9, 2007 10:50 AM
Granpa, I use firefox and I've been getting the same message / pop-up.
274. STC - August 9, 2007 10:50 AM
I got it quite a few times, what it would do is minimize the actual page that i am on after opening a new page, and pop up something about adult sites and click here to get rid of them because your computer KNOWS you aren't supposed to be looking. And if you closed that window (the pop up) your original window pops back but opens a new page to the drive cleaner page.
So I went and blocked all web pages from that site and its been alright so far.
helpful pictures?

Really isn't that exciting
Nor is it accurate
275. Helen - August 9, 2007 10:50 AM
Hi
www.drivecleaner.com are the bastards attached to your site. I read your great site everyday and now I have this poxy drivecleaner crap on both my home and work PCs - I wasn't gonna read it any more because once that is on your pc it keeps popping up with claims that you've got adult content, porno etc on your pc. I wouldn't mind but I shop on line and read gossip, if I want to look at naked women there's a great one in the mirror! Please get rid of it!
I'll come back when ya have.
276. MD - August 9, 2007 10:50 AM
Only from this site. I've gotten both the pop ups and the hijacked page. I just X it out, I use mozilla firefox.
277. Ali - August 9, 2007 10:50 AM
I haven't gotten any pop-ups from this site. I'm using FF
278. Dashankmeista - August 9, 2007 10:51 AM
running firefox, got the pop up
279. Holly - August 9, 2007 10:51 AM
