Look, I'm not a particular fan of the pit bull breed, but given the number of pitbulls in the country, the percentage of them that attack or kill people is incredibly small. (Doctors kill far more people than pitbulls. Christ, on any given year, hamburger probably kills\injures more people.)

As far as the attacks being unprovoked, young children's high pitched talk and laughter is often a trigger for a dog's prey drive. It will draw their attention, and not always in a good way. Add to it that kids are small and likely to flail their arms around when they're playing, and it's no surprise that a dog with a high instinctive prey drive - Pitbull, Rottie, etc will decide that its something they should attack.

Throw in more than one dog and you get the pack mentality. One dog attacks, the rest are likely to do so as well. It's the human owner's fault (not the kids or those who are attacked) for not being responsible for their pet.

On another note, vick is a cocksucker. I hope he goes to prison for his admitted crimes, and is killed there for being a snitch.

Someone with an aggressive, abusive personality shouldn't own pets period, let alone one that can be exploited like a pit bull (or a Rotweiller). Again, I despise Michael Vick for fighting those dogs (I despise Don King for putting Muhammed Ali in a bad match) but the really horrific crime is what he did to them AFTER the fight, after they gave their all for him in what he shouldn't have asked them to do in the first place. I'm not sure if this has been said already, and I'm sorry if I am repeating, but it's like the saying, "guns don't kill people, people kill people." Same is true if anyone tries to argue that a certain type of dog is doomed to be vicious or a killer. No, it's not the dog, it's the people behind the dog. I have been around big dogs my whole life (German Sheppards, rotties, Dobermans etc.), all raised by good people, and therefore, they are good dogs.
