I am going to speak seriously and honestly for a moment at the risk of being heckled for being thoughtful on a site called "The Superficial."

A couple of people have already alluded to the link between professional athletes and a rise in violent crime. Some have also linked this increased relationship to race. Quite frankly, I think the basis is more socioeconomic than it is racial.

You see these young kids with athletic ability become star athletes and as early as high school, they escape responsibility for their actions. They are able to graduate high school despite the fact that they skip classes or perhaps are actually failing their subjects. They get in to college with mediocre (at best) grades and although they aren't technically allowed to receive gifts from sports agents, you know there are loopholes.

What happens is, you basically have these large children suddenly swimming in money. They have no experience managing money, no knowledge of how to behave and they just totally lack the class or the maturity to handle themselves appropriately.

This is not limited to the black community, the latino community or anyone one race more than another. It happens to people with limited class and limited money who suddenly have so much money and power and were never coached on how to handle themselves.

Michael Vick should be ashamed of what he has done. It is inexcusable Regardless of what his punishment is, according to the courts, more of a statement would be made by how people respond to him. The Judge who will review the plea (the final authority) is a well known hard-ass and will probably stick to the 5 year idea. This means that there will be a bargain made over time served, good behavior, and averaging. Most legal speculators assume Vick will get a little under 2 years of REAL jail-time (read: after the sentence, no time served deducted)

When Vick is sentenced, it will violate several terms of his contract with the Falcons, and their legal team will get to work. Vicks current 10 year contract is only a few years old, and Atlanta will be able to reclaim the largest portion of it due to morality clauses, playtime requirements, and public relations issues. They will be able to seize the juiciest chuck of Vick’s contract, his signing bonus (as well as his roster bonuses to date due to the Falcons adjusting them as “signing” bonuses to loop around the salary cap). Estimates put this sum at near $28 Million. What are the odds Vick has that much liquidity available after these legal fees and fines? This breach penalty will most likely force Vick into bankruptcy.

After Vick is released, the NFL will most likely suspend him for 1 season. They are unable to issue suspensions concurrently with prison time and will be forced to act to appease the PETA, NAAR, and other Animal Rights groups, as well as common people who are pissed and appalled by his actions.

If an animal shelter ends the life of an animal, it is through a humane form of euthanasia; they do not have dogs and cats viciously attack each other and then drown or electrocute them. This is the main problem with folks living outside the U.S. when it comes to the white/black issue in America. American blacks are very different than African or European blacks. I dated a Syrian woman, who could never understand why there was such a problem over here with regard to black people. Her experience had taught her that blacks and Arabs got along just fine. And here is where I differ with them, since they claim that difference is made by the subject being black or white, whereas it's obvious it's made according to their position in the stablishment. Michael Vick might be rich now, but he still comes from the ghetto and has no power. "White trash" would get the same treatment. If the difference seems to cut through the racial divide it's just because it still is America's social, economic and cultural divide. But there are other examples of the same kind of injustice directed at other groups: gay teachers fired for their sexuality while Nicole Ritchie or OJ Simpson are allowed to raise kids, poor whites living in poisonous FEMA trailers...
