Free speech is your right to say what you want without GOVERNMENT interference. It does not apply to private individuals like Jolie.

For example, it may be free speech to say you hate gays but your boss can fire you for it. Your boss has not violated your right to free speech.

However, if you stand on the steps of the US capital building with a sign that says "I hate Gays" you can not be arrested by the government, unless you break some other law like disturbing the peace.

It doesn't say that I *must* say something when being asked and therefore must give interviews when asked. While she is a public figure because of the work that she does, the public really has no legitimate right to know certain aspects of a person's private life if the information concerned cannot be reasonably related to the nature of the work that she does. And Freedom of speech in the US does not allow one to say "anything you want," protected by the government or otherwise. The First Amendment only protects pure expressions of opinion and thus protects speech or written material which does not contain a provably false factual connotation or statements which cannot be reasonably interpreted as stating actual facts. If they otherwise do, careless or otherwise intentional, and particularly if malice accompanies the speech or written material, then that person would be liable for defamation or libel. 1. this isn't a first amendment issue. Angie has the right to not give interviews to newspapers. HOWEVER....

2. The newspapers have the RIGHT to not print any stories about her, good or bad, which in turn would be very detrimental to her movies and career. THat is why her movie studio intervened and countermanded her requests.

This is one actress with no class. I used to like her during the Laura Croft movie days. However, since the whole Jennifer and Brad issue, I cannot stand to even hear her name.

Wow, I don't blame Angelina one bit for having press sign a tight contract, she did not leave any room for them to create bad press about her.
