Jan 31 2007Brandy is getting super sued

A day after the California Highway Patrol recommended Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, the parents of the woman killed in the car accident announced they're suing her for $50 million, with the wrongful-death suit claiming Brandy drove recklessly when she caused the accident.
This just isn't Brandy's week. Later today she's probably gonna find out she has AIDS and then when she sees her doctor she's gonna get her arm bitten off because turns out her doctor is really just an alligator disguised in a long white coat.

If she offers to settle using gold-pressed latinum all the rumors will be confirmed.
7. helena handbasket - January 31, 2007 8:16 AM
i can't help but think she's being sued just because she's Brandy and has a lot of money. litigiousness like this is so trashy. will owning Brandy bring your child back? put this on the (short) list of annoyances of being rich and famous: everyone's after your benjamins.
8. chrystina - January 31, 2007 8:16 AM
She's being sued for 50 million because she sucks at driving...
Damn.
9. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 8:18 AM
Ha, back to food stamps.
AWWWWWWWW, come get me.
10. gimmeimmi - January 31, 2007 8:18 AM
Sad, accidents happen. Interesting how the parents decide to sue AFTER the story reaches the media. "Hey, a celebrity caused the death of our daughter, what luck!"
11. the_stone - January 31, 2007 8:20 AM
wtf is wrong with her eyelashes??
I don't get it.
12. bedbugsandballyhoo - January 31, 2007 8:21 AM
Is Brandy the long lost daughter of Oprah? The eyes are a dead give away. Especially if you have seen pictures of Oprah without makeup.
13. Baron Von Pap Smear - January 31, 2007 8:22 AM
Sorry, since when does slammming your car into head-on traffic at 60 mph, killing someone, and causing untold emotional trauma and damage constitute being a 'misdemeanor'? I'm speechless.
14. combustion8 - January 31, 2007 8:24 AM
not suprised, the woman that was killed looked like a super jew.
15. hellcat1983 - January 31, 2007 8:24 AM
#11, maybe she applies her mascara while driving!
16. danielle - January 31, 2007 8:26 AM
Just another cheap way to extort money out of a celebrity.
17. NipsyHustle - January 31, 2007 8:27 AM
that family must be ignorant immigrants or they would know it's OBVIOUS brandy is a "where are they now?" has been who has never earned $50 mill even when she was at the height of her fame.
i'm convinced if she had a dime she would have had her entire face reconstructed so she didn't look like she had escaped a fish bowl.
18. PapaHotNuts - January 31, 2007 8:28 AM
It's not her fault, traffic was murder that morning.
19. chickiee2002 - January 31, 2007 8:29 AM
50 million is a bit much. But what she got was also not enough.
The parents need to realize that no amount of money will take the pain away. Wont even help with it.
20. Giggles - January 31, 2007 8:30 AM
I think it's a misdemeanor because there is an assumed risk we all take when we drive. That she was reckless, i.e., text messaging at the time or whatever, is negligence. Alcohol and/or drugs raise it to a felony. Where's a lawyer to explain it all?
21. My Thai - January 31, 2007 8:30 AM
Good one Papa.
She is not being sued because she is a celebrity she is being sued because she killed someone.
If you or I did it the woman's family would probably sue us too.
22. Juliabella - January 31, 2007 8:31 AM
How do the parents know how she was driving? Were they there? It's very sad to loose a child but WTF is it with suing back for 50 million freaking dollars??? What's your point? Wanna make money on you dead daughter's grave? Low.
23. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 8:31 AM
I read the person was driving a fucking Toyota Corolla. What I know about death due to negligence compensation, at least in my jurisdiction, is that, in terms of money for the loss you are paid according to what the person would have earned in his/her productive lifetime.
So if you worked in Burger King all your life, you are not worth that much (even though you might be better off dead). The family will get some money for pain and suffering. If they decide to grant punitive damages THAT might bring in some dough but that's up to the jury. That's about it they're not gonna get anywhere near 1 million, this person was not a neurosurgeon or person of similar value.
24. magickal - January 31, 2007 8:34 AM
Seriously - I highly doubt she has 50 mill. However, she probably has other assets they can sieze, or she'll be forced to sell whatever mansion she bought during the critically acclaimed, raging success that was "Moesha" not to mention those two songs she sang once. Not to defend her, and I'm all for treating celebs like "regular people" when they violate the law, but here in NY if you kill someone while driving, even speeding, unless you are not drunk or on drugs you would NEVER be charged criminally. I feel for the family of the deceased, but cashing in on this tragedy really doesn't give them loads of credibility. And Brandy is a worthless, talentless piece of black crap in my opinion, but, sheesh, jail time? For rearending someone while you're sober?
25. Alex - January 31, 2007 8:35 AM
I think some of you are missing the point. It's not like she is going to pay $50M and then just be out $50M. She will do time AND pay $50M. That is how the parents will sleep at night. Well, I wouldn't sleep with $50M, but whatever they do at night. You get the picture.
Futhermore, it will probably go for like $1-2M, and some jailtime. I still wouldn't sleep at night, though. I'd be too busy making fun of poor people.
26. AreYouSerious?!?! - January 31, 2007 8:36 AM
#6- gold-pressed latinum?!? I actually googled that one- What a waste of my time! I think I was more disappointed to discover it had to do with Star Trek than I was with this story...
27. magickal - January 31, 2007 8:36 AM
*unless you ARE drunk or on drugs, uh duh!!!
28. tits_on_snack - January 31, 2007 8:38 AM
Was she a singer or something?
29. JoniB - January 31, 2007 8:38 AM
Yes, she should have gotten more of a punishment. But 50 mil is ridiculous. Are they putting a price tag on her life? So sad...
30. PapaHotNuts - January 31, 2007 8:39 AM
I will throw one of my kids under a cement truck for 50 million.
31. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 8:41 AM
@28 and therein lies the problem she should have been sent to prison for her, ahem "hit" The Boy is Mine, along with all those people who bought it.
32. no one you know - January 31, 2007 8:41 AM
@21...of course. However, even if they sued someone like you or I for a paltry 1 million, you or I would declare bankruptcy before liens could be put against property we own or our wages could be garnished. In that case, the victim's family doesn't get a dime.
Just because Brandy is worth millions doesn't entitle the victim's family to a significant sum. Sure, damages should be awarded, and they are very much deserved in this case, but they should not be awarded directly in proportion to the amount of money the person who caused the accident has or makes. In all reality, these people are simply lucky that Brandy can afford to pay ANYTHING and won't be able to sidestep the suit due to declaring bankruptcy.
33. Juliabella - January 31, 2007 8:41 AM
15- funny one!
she is weird and obviously not careful. If making a phone call is illegal in some States, (which takes about 5 seconds dialing and then on hand away from the steering) could you imagine how stupid you could be thinking texting is fine?!?!
34. Praz - January 31, 2007 8:42 AM
#13- She didn't drive head-on into traffic, she caused a four-car pile-up. Significant difference.
#26- I think the joke there is that she looks like one of the alien races (Ferengi) from Star Trek. But yea, I could honestly see how having to look that up would not be worth your time.
35. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 8:43 AM
The parents are suing her to punish her. If I did what Brandy did, was only going to get a up to a year in county (which means probation), I'd get sued as punishment for killing their kid too. They'd only sue for like $10,000 because that is a HUGE amount of money for me and they'd only get like $100. She was texting while driving, crashed into some cars and killed someone. She's going to get off and the parents want her to know that that's not okay. They aren't grubbing for money.
36. wedge1 - January 31, 2007 8:45 AM
Thanks for finally catching up to the news today, Mr. Fish.
You must have seen my post in yesterday's Brandy blog (posted about 45 minutes before this article came up). At least you haven't deleted that post as obnoxious or promotional. You do have some testicles.
But the least you can do is say THANK YOU. Being K_A_R_L's reporter is a tiring, endless job.
37. NipsyHustle - January 31, 2007 8:45 AM
wrongful death suits cost money and can take years of time, resources, and emotional drama before a check is ever cut. it's not something the average pauper can afford to pursue.
but in their case, the family obviously is thinking "daughter killed by celebrity. we hit the lotto". $50 million? come on and with a name like "Awatef Aboudihaj" how do we know al-qeada isn't behind this?
38. 86 - January 31, 2007 8:45 AM
50 Million? Boy, someone really does think of their loved one as a meal ticket. They're probably glad she died.
39. 86 - January 31, 2007 8:47 AM
And people seriously...cell phones might be a hazard, but some people have televisions in their cars so until the cars can drive themselves lets not nail anyone to a cross.
40. jesseeca - January 31, 2007 8:48 AM
People can sue for however much they want. Doesn't mean they will get even close to that, which they probably won't. Either way, her insurance carrier will probably drop her ass real quick!
41. LoneWolf - January 31, 2007 8:49 AM
I heard that the last thing that passed through the victim's mind was her windshield.
Anyone can sue anybody for anything. Collecting is another story.
This will be settled out of court for an undisclosed sum (that will be a shit-load less than $50mm).
That said, sounds like Miss Thang's gettin' off easy. Fuckin celebs get away with murder - ask OJ.
42. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 8:50 AM
I doubt they'll get $50 million and I'm sure they know that. Or not.
43. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 8:54 AM
@11 & 15.... Exactly! I keep wanting to do the spit finger. That and knee her in the groin.
44. wedge1 - January 31, 2007 8:54 AM
#32 - don't forget that as a performer, she'll receive residual income for the rest of her life. Her future royalties will get garnished, bankruptcy or no bankruptcy. Who knows how much that would be, but she'll never see any of it.
#33 - not as stupid as you talking about what is illegal in "some states", when you live in QUEBEC, CANADA!!
I just realized what Brandy's major facial malfunction is ... not only does she have that "Hammerhead Shark" look, but her right eye is crooked! Notice in the photo how the left eye is centered, but the right eye is up against the nose?!
She looks like something from the movie "Deliverance", only she has all of her teeth.
45. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 8:56 AM
Ah, the Aboudihaj family, here for less than one generation and already carving themselves up a piece of the American pie through the use of our legal system. It doesn't get more American than that folks.
I'm sure the terrorist cell that ends up with the money will appreciate the irony in all this.
46. grateful - January 31, 2007 8:56 AM
she needs to pay, but 50 mill?????????

"I'm sure the terrorist cell that ends up with the money will appreciate the irony in all this."
strange, i had a dream about you being on television last night and now you're quoting my ideas(see post #37).......what's really going on?
48. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 9:02 AM
@45... So, was the gal a suicide driver or did the terrorists just hear the news and pounce? Maybe Brandy is part of it too... I knew there were thousands of reasons not to like that girl.
49. 86 - January 31, 2007 9:02 AM
I think the real question in all of this is What the fuck is up with Brandy's eyelashes?
50. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 9:04 AM
Sorry Nipsy... #48 goes to you too.
51. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 9:04 AM
Nothing going, just expanding on your terrorist premise.
should have added a: "as Nipsy pointed out" :)
52. misanthrope - January 31, 2007 9:05 AM
@49... #15 answered that one.

57. jrzmommy♠ - January 31, 2007 9:17 AM
AND her mascara is all clumpy.
$50 million ought to ease their grief and fill the void in their lives. *rolls eyes*
58. jesseeca - January 31, 2007 9:21 AM
i really don't think that's clumpy mascara. i think it's some sort of fake extra long eyelash thing. apparently it's suppose to look good. WRONG! it looks like some bird got in a fight with her face and left some feathers behind, but with that mouth, chances are she just ate it.
59. gambitzero - January 31, 2007 9:25 AM
I think that they should put Brandy in front of a firing squad for this. But the guys with the guns should be texting their friends at the time. So it might take a while, what with all the accidently arm and leg hits from not paying attention *grin*
60. rmeno - January 31, 2007 9:29 AM
honestly..if a person who takes the responsibility to get behind the wheel of a car and know their actions could kill someone, but still chooses to daydream, talk on the phone, or whatever..but does not do her job as a driver and watch where the hell she's going...then her ass needs to be sued! ..and, if it were my daughter..50 BILLION wouldn't be enough!
61. gambitzero - January 31, 2007 9:30 AM
Would you accept 50 Billion and 1 sir?
62. fame is funny - January 31, 2007 9:31 AM
Everyone is missing the point. Brandy should pay me 50 million per second of the 8 seconds I watched of her show to verify that indeed, she had no talent. Every moment is precious, and I died a little inside that day.
63. whitegold - January 31, 2007 9:31 AM
Sneaky fucking alligators in their long white coats! I hate when they pull off tricky shit like that.
64. willy - January 31, 2007 9:32 AM
Wow, they sure didn't take too much time to get over the tragic death... Forget good taste... this out of work singer may have cash!
But fifty million is a lot of money for a rear end accident. They're terribly common, despite the bad luck of the whole incident...
65. Niecy - January 31, 2007 9:43 AM
50 million is a bit much. They probably won't get that much. I think their suit is just in response to finding out what her charges are. A misdemeanor charge with a maximum of a year in jail is nothing. Plus the woman had kids who will need to be taken care of. They need money.
66. trumbo - January 31, 2007 9:48 AM
oh please with the tears for brandy. poor celebrity being sued for killing their daughter.
if she wasn't a celebrity she'd be facing jail time for vehicular manslaughter.
bad moesha.
67. themailman - January 31, 2007 9:50 AM
44- you think you're smart don't you???
68. willy - January 31, 2007 9:58 AM
Prediction:
If they win, Brandy will file for Bankrupcy and she won't own them a gosh darned thing as a result.
Apparently the parents can't afford a halfway intelligent lawyer.
69. lisa - January 31, 2007 10:01 AM
Brandy would never be able to go bankrupt to avoid paying anyway - bankruptcy laws changed. Now monies awarded in courts/lawsuits are not able to be included in any bankruptcy - the girls family probably know this (via the scumsucking lawyer representing them), and told them that Brandy can't get out of it, so sue away...
we have this whore suing my brother for a similar type thing (vehicular accidental death) and they made sure he found out that they will own his ass for the rest of his life if they get a settlement...
people that try to get a lot of money from someone elses death suck ass. That's my personal opinion anyway.
70. jrzmommy♠ - January 31, 2007 10:06 AM
60--exactly, so why bother? Brandy with less money isn't going to bring anyone back and it's not gonna make Brandy a safer driver.
Everyone, except the poor chick who died, natch, looks like shit in this one. Brandy is a careless asshole and the parents are greedy assholes. The band plays on..........
71. p0nk - January 31, 2007 10:18 AM
ghoulia #21, between her confession and the police report, i'd say it's a pretty safe bet.
btw, do you know sybil?
re: the goopy eyelashes. i told her my jism dries really fast and she needs to wash it off quickly. apparently she didn't believe me.
72. ImaCracka - January 31, 2007 10:27 AM

Anyone know how much she is worth?
73. SF Little Bear - January 31, 2007 10:34 AM
Even when faced with the death of a loved one, Aboudihaj Ahmed and Labridi Zohra find the time to be proper Americans and sue for an ungodly amount of money because of an accident. God bless America.
74. jrzmommy♠ - January 31, 2007 10:35 AM
I hope Brandy enlists the services of a good colorist before the trial. She looks positively orangutangian.
75. rmeno - January 31, 2007 10:46 AM
it has nothing to do with being greedy...
Brandy hurt this girl's parents..the ultimate hurt..losing their child (for any normal parent)...so they are hurting her (Brandy) the best way they know how within the limits of the law...simple as that
76. N'Arianne - January 31, 2007 10:57 AM
Does she even have 50 mil??? I mean, is she famous enough for that??? Really?
77. jrzmommy♠ - January 31, 2007 11:00 AM
It has everything to do with being greedy. When these people found out it was a celebrity who was responsible for the accident, you can't tell me they weren't like JACKPOT!!!!
78. NipsyHustle - January 31, 2007 11:03 AM
#76 she has 50 million pesos.
79. kate - January 31, 2007 11:06 AM

80. ih8strippers - January 31, 2007 11:07 AM
brandy is such a murdering nigger
81. Enano - January 31, 2007 11:07 AM
Maybe the timing was coincedential, but I don't blame the family at all. The woman killed was a waitress and left behind a small child, so the child is most likely going to need finincial support. What would piss me off is if any celeb (D-list or not) were to get off without a vehicular manslaughter charge. It's sad but it happened, and I don't think "reckless" fully describes whatever the hell she was doing in her '07 Land Rover that she couldn't stop in time.
82. Gaby - January 31, 2007 11:11 AM
poor brandy. just ask your baby daddy NBA player or wait was it the producer? whatever. she has money.
83. rmeno - January 31, 2007 11:12 AM
#77..actually no I don't think they went Jackpot!!! But who knows how much money she has or that she will make over her lifetime...if you take someone that's got $500 million (not saying she does, just an example) and sue them for $50 million, it's not going to hurt them a bit! Sue for $50 million when they only have $10 mil then that's gonna make them squirm...which is alot less harsh than their daughter that's laying in a grave now.
84. SaraLuppino - January 31, 2007 11:13 AM
GOOD! Celebs dont deserve special treatment. If JoeShmoe does what she did, he'd get 40 years. Brandy does it? It's not going to be a slap on the wrist. This is the biggest hit she's had in years! (ha, get it.)
85. Giggles - January 31, 2007 11:22 AM
#79 -- Kate -- I heard she was texting while driving over on TMZ.com. I do not confirm that it's true, only that someone over there said it.
86. ShanDourdan - January 31, 2007 11:41 AM
Has it actually been confirmed that Brandy was on the phone or is that just people spouting shit as usual?. I agree with #70.
How comes when stars like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and all the others whores get DUI's the police aren't all over them. Yes they haven't killed anyone but it's probably just a matter of time, Brandy deserves to be punished for what she did but it's not like 'regular' people haven't been stupid enough to use their phone whilst driving (if that's what she did) yet when Nicole/Paris eventually causes harm to someone while driving home smashed I guess they'll probably just get their licenses taken away.

Look, it's one thing if the lady left behind a kid and if she acted carelessly and recklessly then something punititve -- something for the care of the child. $50 million is totally overboard. I mean, the lady as you say was a waitress--that kid wasn't gonna necessarily be raised in the lap of luxury and you bet your ass the kid isn't gonna see a fraction of a $50 million settlement. They wouldn't be suing me or you for $50 million. They wouldn't be suing some random school teacher for $50 million. They're greedy fucks who see a cash cow. Fuck em.
89. BarbadoSlim - January 31, 2007 12:13 PM
@81 & 83 while I do enjoy a good mob. Let's allow some space here for accidents (because they DO happen to ALL of us). Barring the fact that she might have been doing something criminally stupid such as texting or watching a movie in her Rover, the driver in front of her could have braked suddenly, there coul have been something on the road etc...
Human beings are not robots and shit happens sometimes. I have a major problem with the taking of property and wealth, because of an accident, from its rightful owners, this is still America.
And you wouldn't be singing the same song if your sweet little daughter was the one who were being accused.
90. ambrosia - January 31, 2007 1:25 PM
Though you cannot put a price on human life how can they ask for that much. Did she work, or anything that wouuld touch that money i highly doubt she would of made $500,000 in the next 5 years. She was lower middle class. People turn crazy for money. Its like the nicole brown/ron goldman case there family now misses kids they disowned because of money.
91. rmeno - January 31, 2007 1:38 PM
again..the amount is not what a life was worth..or what that person would have made throughout his/her lifetime...that is obvious with the Rodney King settlement...what it is for is punishment finacially..just as we pay speeding tickets...she killed someone and that is big bucks..sorry. Just as your doctor would pay your family millions if he were found negligent in your death...it doesn't matter if you were a lawyer or worked at McDonalds...it's a little thing called punitive damages..and personal loss

ok $50 mil is just flippin ridiculous and the lawyer that advised their clients to seek that much is a frickin ass and should get disbarred. not a damn one of us including the victims parents were in the car with brandy while she was driving so we have no clue how wreckless she was driving. this is not even that big a f&%king deal to the rest of us since we weren't involved. besides how many other people in this country have killed drivers in a wreck by not paying attention to the road or talking on their cell phone? the only reason why we're hearing about this one is because she's a pretty much goddamn has-been celebrity. and the dumb asshole (#41) that compared this to o.j. is stupid and should be shot-this was a completely unintentional accident and nicole simpson's murder was intentional. you don't slit a person's throat a few times and stab them 50 times and say "oops i didn't mean to do it. it was an accident." and for those people bashing on brandy's picture so what it's not the best picture. if you were so good looking why the hell aren't you famous???

After plastering Brandy's name all over the place, how about listing who it was that got killed? How about listing the name of the profiteers who think their ship has finally come in because their offspring was in an accident with a celebrity. Pays better than college and you only have to invest in a cheap vehicle. How many kids do they have? Any chance the others could get into an accident so they could be as rich as Bill Gates? Hey! I hear Michael Jackson is available.....

@91...Aren't you a ray of sunshine, well I DID mention the fucking punitive damages in my first post. Those are what's called special damages and you get'em IF you prove to the jury that the person should be punished.
Oh, and I don't buy your little song and dance about you being thankful for your little bundle of joy being alive to get sued. You sound like any self-righteous prick to me AND all of your ilk are a bunch of hypocrites. If this happened to you you'd be the first one looking for loopholes to not have to pay.

Change the photo I'm tired of seeing that ugly sheboon.

Wow! Jihad never paid off so good!! My father-in-law is illiterate in two languages and has had 3 DUIs in Houston, smashed up other people's cars and has only done 2 weeks in jail. He's not even employed so nobody gets to sue him for $50 million. It sucks to get in a car accident with a Mexican.

I'd like to see that nigger get put out in the middle lane of I5 at rush hour and listen to the SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT sound. Although it does sound she took out another nigger or sand nigger. I suppose that's a bonus point. Anyway HAHA, and fuck you niggers.

whats wrong with 104. i met plenty of dumbass white trash who cant drive. the best drivers in the world are us, hispanics. we always make sure we ride perfectly because if we go stoped by the police, they always try convince immigration offices we are illegal. even if we have our papers. why does everyone hate black people. i have met many who are nice and many white people who are not crazy like the ones on this site. why do you think having less melanin makes you superior to all races. less malanin means more cancer, sunburn and saggy faces.

When she caused the accident the only sound the family could hear was the "CHA-CHiNG!" of the cash cow.

Too bad Cochran & Kardashian are dead, she's gonna need all the help she can get.

Hey, at least she actually accomplished something with this accident, albeit something fucked up and life taking. The rest of her career, much like this horrible picture, had been a trainwreck. Some cute little girls just grow up to be Cocoa Clowns.
113. crazyotto - February 1, 2007 8:11 AM
does this mean she got street cred now?
114. willy - February 1, 2007 8:29 AM
Whatever happened to defensive driving? Don't they care to find out the rest of the story? For example... the woman hit two other cars after Brandy smacked her. Had this chick been far enough behind the others, and had she discovered her rear view mirror...

Lynxton Music Group is just covering up this entire mess! the public didnt hear about this for over a month and the police report has everybodys full name but only "B.N" for Brandy Norwood. now i was watching extra and they were stating that before brandy gave an official statement that she was allowed to call the low life spin doctors at Lynxton!
116. licklick - February 7, 2007 3:14 AM
No wonder she crashed her car. Her eyes are in the sides of her head!
RIP to the poor soul who had the misfortune to get near her that fateful day. Hope Brandy loses the lawsuit, her license and her career.
See you at the McDonald's drive-thru you reckless bitch!
117. HollywoodSnark - March 25, 2007 3:31 PM
