Altman was a player and is gone too soon.
But now maybe 100,000 other filmmakers at least as good as he is have a chance at getting produced, eh?

#14's life will never amount to a sliver of Altman's. Or K-Fed's.

They need to stop giving out the Lifetime Achievement Oscars. 95% of the people who receive them die within a year.

@ #5 - it IS related to Britney!
Robert Altman directed 'Short Cuts', which Jennifer Jason Leigh was in, who was also in 'Road to Perdition' with Tom Hanks, who was also in 'Bonfire of the Vanities' with Kim Cattrall, who was also in 'Crossroads' with....BRITNEY SPEARS!!!
(Yes, I have WAY too much time on my hands)

A lifetime achievment award and he could only muster 20 comments? What a fucking loser!

I wasn't a fan or anything, I've only seen Pret a porter and short cuts but he had a long career and well, it's sad. Requiem in pace.

#17 - 5 degress of Briney Spears *shudders*
I'll weigh in - I liked a lot of his stuff. He was involved with, among others:
"M*A*S*H" (there was a movie before there was a TV show, kids) "Nashville", "The Player", "Gosford Park", "The Gingerbread Man", "Cookie's Fortune", "Dr. T & the Women", (featuring a gerbil-stuffer, a naked Farrach Fawcett and a topless Helen Hunt), "A Prairie Home Companion" (cast included Lindsay Lohan, all you Fishies), "McCabe and Mrs. Miller", "The Long Goodbye", "Thieves Like Us", "Popeye" (starring cokehead Robin Williams), "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" (starring Cher when she was in her prime).
81 years and a Hollywood heavy hitter. I'd say he kicked some major ass.

yo, number 5, you're a jackass. Same with all of you who are making a bunch of crappy remarks about him.
Just because it has nothing to do with Paris Hilton or Britney Spears or any of the idiotic celebs doesn't mean you have to post obnoxious shit.
How would you like it if a loved one of yours died and somebody went "how the fuck was this person important?" I don't care what snoody remark you may have back to that. On the internet you might be "pssh whatever I wouldn't care" but in real life -admit it- you would feel pretty damn bad.
Seriously, just have a heart and respect the death of this man.
May Robert Altman Rest In Peace.

Aren't you going to make some snyde comment about his clothes, age, or death? I'm confused.

#20 we don't appreciate hard work around here or many of us wouldn't be on this board. we'd be giving our bosses 110%

Finally, a story of substance on The Superficial.
I was a fan of Altman, but if it was his time to die, then it was his time to die. Death is human. And he was a great human.

I remember that Popeye movie with Williams and the giant forearms–Altman was a great guy, and I'm glad the Super mentioned him.

Gosford Park was great-a real departure from your
"typical" Altman film; I'm sure he'll get something for
A Prairie Home Companion-it's such a great romp.
For what it's worth, he thought Lindsay had true
talent and I'm guessing he might know what that
looks like.
Rest in peace Robert Altman

of the many cinematic triumphs in the ouevre that was Robert Altman's career, my most memorable would have to be Julianne Moore walking around with her box out for like 10 straight minutes in Short Cuts.
32. causaubon - November 22, 2006 8:23 AM
or what about the opening to "The Player"? something insane like 10min without a cut. one continous shot for 10min going through a Hollywood studio lot. During the sequence, one character can be overheard giving props to Orson Welle's opening shot for "Touch of Evil", which was also a 10min uncut single shot.
but for my money M*A*S*H was still his best and those fuckers at "The Academy" should be ashamed of themselves for only giving him a lifetime acheivement. He deserved best director for at least 4 of his films.
33. DrunkBlogger - November 22, 2006 9:32 AM
Rest in Peace Robbie!
34. Milandir - November 22, 2006 4:46 PM
Maybe a good director can get some work now!
35. docweasel - November 24, 2006 9:26 PM
Over-rated to the point of infinity. Even M*A*S*H wasn't that good- have you seen it in the last 20 years? Its a muddled rambling mess that is only saved by the fact that Gould and Southerland were cool back then. Nashville would be a bad TeeVee movie. I can't even sit through much else -Gosford Park? Please.
Actors liked him because he let them improvise. His best movies were 20+ years ago and they haven't aged well. RIP, but don't give me this genius crap.

#35 - "Nashville" was brilliant. Take your ADD meds and give it another try.
37. HollywoodSnark - March 28, 2007 10:44 AM
too bad....we could use him now with all the crap that gets passed off as movies these days
