the sad thing is that this kid had a father and a grandmother. they only put the baby in the orphanage temporarily until the father was in a better situation. everybody in malawi pressured him to give the kid up, and in a whirlwind he did, apparently he didnt want to.

Apparently Madge is in trouble for this in England, too, where they have RULES about adopting kids, whether from in-country or out.

So, not only will she not be staying in Malawi for the required 18-months observation period, she never let child-welfare authorities in England know she was adopting, which, no matter what country the child comes from, also requires an assessment beforehand.

All of this might be to stop people like Madonna, rich asshats who pick out kids to adopt like other people pick out dogs from the pet store. I heard she even had people go in beforehand and pick out the 12 cutest baby boys for her to choose from.
