Mar 31 2006Britney Spears' people sues Hyori Lee's people
Songwriters for Britney Spears are seeking damages from a South Korean pop composer for plagiarism, saying Hyori Lee's "Get Ya" is a little too similar to Britney Spears' "Do Something." I'm not familiar with either song, but I did watch the music video for "Get Ya" (above) and I'm gonna have to rule in Hyori's favor. Giving me a raging hard-on is always step one in winning me over. You could run over my family in your car and as long as you look great dancing around in a short skirt I'd just shrug and say, "Don't worry about it." Besides, the song steals more from the James Bond Theme than anything else.

what i think is funnier is the ad on this page that says "How Britney lost her extra weight. And how you can too! Her secret."
Britney lost her extra weight? When? Her secret seems to be, drink a milkshake whenever you see one. Don't forget the whip cream.
3. Evangelia - March 31, 2006 6:33 PM
feh, britney's just upset cause this korean girl weighs about as much as britney's pinky toe. she probably is much less infested with public restroom floor germs, as well.
that being said, this chick is HOT! koreans are the best pop stars ever!

Ironically it's Britney's songwriters doin' the suin' (hey that rhymed..) if I needed final proof Britney is a no-talent, it's that. Atleast write your own tunes, bitch, and then you could sue so you can afford K-Fed's allowance.
8. Becca - March 31, 2006 6:59 PM
You know I'm just wondering what is up with all the lack of news/postings lately?
Anyways, hahahaha at #1. So true since K-Fed probably sucked her bank account dry by now.
9. azcoyote - March 31, 2006 7:01 PM
Hmm... A trial by penis... Wouldn't that go like...
"Hear yea, hear yea. The Honorable One-Eyed Weasil now residing..."
"The case of "Bloated Warthog" vs "Korean Nymph" is now in session..."
(10 miliseconds later)
"We, (and by we I mean ME and the Trouser Snake pitching a tent in my judges robe) the good "people" of America find for the Korean Nymph."
Also, we hold the Warthog in contempt for bloating in our virtual presence. Step away from the Cheetos, Mrs. Federspears. I sentence you to 5000 situps and 100 hours of treadmill until that ass is SmackTastic like back in your "Boa Constrictor around the neck days".
Case dismissed...
"Case dismissed

I don't get it. There are plenty of Asian songs that copy pop song melodies note for note, and they don't get sued. (Off the top of my head I can think of a SHE song that's a copy of Britney's 'Sometimes'. There's also a Chinese boy band called Energy that just takes other songs and puts Chinese lyrics to them.) The melody here is only similar and it gets sued.

In response to #1 - that was EXACTLY what I was thinking. After all all she does is sit on her fat ass all day.
I say her last night on Will & Grace and you can tell she probably requested not to be shot on a side angle because she looked like a tub of dip shit in that red dress. However, at times you caught a quick glimpse.

#10 - I was about to say that! Typical K/J/C-pop, a cheap ripoff of American pop (or sometimes Euro-pop), but not quite as good. This one is definitely lame. Especially how Hyori has to act like a total skank, just to hide her lack of talent... JUST LIKE BRITNEY.
You have to give Britney some credit though... she might be on to something... she might be realizing that ALL POP MUSIC SOUNDS THE SAME.
Now can we talk about Britneys complete lack of anything close to acting skills? Please?
20. Tha-Flash - March 31, 2006 8:36 PM
Oh come on Britney babes, leave her alone.
21. M@ce - March 31, 2006 8:43 PM
This is obviously the result of the much heralded Korean research program in genetic cloning. Who said they were falsifying data? It worked! Whore Lee is a clone of Britney Spears.
Nice work Korea...Now get back to working on getting my toilet bowl hooked up with broadband Internet access and Hi-def streaming video.
22. gammanormids - March 31, 2006 8:51 PM

However, I like the korean girl. She's pretty, has some talent and her voice doesn't sound like she's having orgasms.

after downloading and watching Kylie's video again, i must say this little girl is much more interesting to watch. the fact that she's 1/4 of kylie's age makes it okay that the director was inspired by good ol' cancer-boobed kylie.

31. $money - March 31, 2006 11:13 PM
Unless my eardrums have been ripped from my head and chopped in a blender, the only thing similar about this song is the beat and there's nothing worth sueing over here...they're both pretty crappy songs. I mean, who lets deaf, dumb, blind, and mute monkeys play with GarageBand anyway?
Oh wait, Britney Spears. Yes...that's right. It's much cheaper than hiring real songwriters. She needs to save money to keep getting all that fat sucked out.
Moving on,
This reminds me of an age-old battle between celebrities. Let me see how far back in history we can go because, as we all know, history repeats itself:
Igor Stravinsky "borrowed" material from other composers,
the Beach Boys relied so heavily on Chuck Berry's 'Sweet Little Sixteen' for their song 'Surfing U.S.A.,
the Chiffons successfully sued George Harrison, claiming that he copied the melody from their song 'He's So Fine' for his early 1970s hit 'My Sweet Lord',
Vanillia Ice and Queen had a battle over "Ice Ice Baby" having the same bass line as "Under Pressure" and Vanillia Ice made it very clear there was one "ding" that was different.(hahaha)
P. Diddy steals beats, Eminem steals beats, hell even Will Smith steals beats.
So, as if songwriters didn't have anything better to do than sue some Korean pop star for something that has the same beat. You'd think they were in it for the money, not the whole..you know...making music thing.
32. doesntmatter - March 31, 2006 11:14 PM
wait, this no talent ass clown has a song called 'do something'? did her people write it for her so she could sing it to k-fed? loser needs to get a job and do something! hmm... like be a father to his 3.5 kids
33. vjane - March 31, 2006 11:15 PM
I can't believe I'm saying this - but I have to side with Britney on this one because:
A) This song does in fact sound virtually identical to "Do Something", and...
B) This chick is fug-tacular. She's basically on par with Brit (and yes, I do mean post-KFed).
34. cinnamoroll - April 1, 2006 12:04 AM
don't know what everybody else is talking about, but i definitely agree with #33. the two songs sound EXACTLY THE SAME. not only that, but the music videos are similar. this girl could at least try not to make it so obvious.
35. TXBlonde - April 1, 2006 12:37 AM
The only thing certain besides death and taxes is that ALL pop songs sound the same. As in, shitty. This means that a career as an attorney in the media industry is quite lucrative. It also means that if we hit the wrong button on our car radio, our ears will bleed excessively. That song (by either "artist") just sucks.
36. heifferzzz - April 1, 2006 12:38 AM

36 comments and no one mentioned the lame New York Yankees hat? I was going to leave it to someone else but come on people, doesn't it annoy you at least little bit? Who walks around in a red minidress, red pumps, and a Yankees hat anyway? I think the video was ruined for me the moment I saw that hat.
38. bellabsue - April 1, 2006 12:51 AM
The lyrics are different obviously. However, if "Britney Spears' people" are going to sue over any computer generated song that sounds the same. And any girl in their late teens to twenties who sounds like she sucks helium before she sings (use that word lightly)...boy do they have their work cut out for them. Surely they must realize these people are created and not really talented. Therefore, they need to sue computers and the studio men and women who build these audio programs.

Other people/companies Brittany is seeking to sue:
Milwalkee's Best Lite for ceasing daliy shipments to her home
Kool Menthol Cigarettes for not offering Marlboro bucks on their packs
CMT Television for cancelling the Dukes of Hazzard marathon
The maker of shoes
7-11 on Melrose Ave for running out of RC Cola and strawberry Zingers
Dale Earnhardt Jr. for not signing her left tit at Talladega in 2003
Terry Schiavo for not speaking up when it was time to eat
The sperm that created her husband

Guys, it's not Britney Spears suing Hyori Lee, it's the songwriters of "Do Somethin'" suing the people involved with "Get Ya". Yes, har de har har, the songs suck ass, but somebody wrote them and got money for them. Britney's not gonna be seeing any of the money if they win, and we can all be thankful for that.
As for beats being used all the time, yes, that's true, and the original creater of the beat is paid every time it's used, unless they literally ripped them off and took them to court.

And why was Brittney watching Korean music videos anyways.

Korean one was clearly better. Because you couldn't understand the shite lyrics.
50. Ms Crackalackin - April 1, 2006 9:09 AM
She has to get extra money somehow, since K-fed drained her accounts and she started draining bags of Cheetos directly down her throat. Poor thing. I hope she has a big comeback, dumps K-Fed, gets thin again, and gets filthy rich again making more karaoke-worthy tunes! Go Brits!

56. tits_on_snack - April 1, 2006 12:27 PM
I donno. the two songs do sound similar.
And it isn't Brit who's suing, it's the people who wrote her song. So making fun of her is kind of irrelevant as she basically has nothing to do with it.
57. gogoboots - April 1, 2006 1:52 PM
Hmmm, seems like the video has a similar theme to Do Something. I would help to know what craptastic song that is, 'cause I don't hear shitty music. This one sounds pretty bad, altho Korean sounds cooler than English.
58. hanako chan - April 1, 2006 3:12 PM
i think i'm the only one that actaully clicked the link re: Hyolee.. i absolutely love her.. there's something great about terrible pop music when you can't understand the words.. but anyways, i love her and hate britney, but i must admit, when i got hyolee's new album, dark angel, the first thing i thought was that she copied britney spears' stupid song, "do somethin" and i really didn't like it.. she let the title "korean britney spears" get to her head.. she should stick to biting namie amuro and r&b singers, so she won't get caught next time she blantantly rips off another "artist.."

I really don't think it makes sense for someone to sue someone else because their pop songs are similar. If that's the case then everyone who has ever made a pop song can sue everyone else that's ever made a pop song!
65. phramed - April 1, 2006 8:09 PM
Though Canada filters out some of the crap artistically but a britney video that was band from the states was only released in Canada. Not to say Britney is crap, but her song that the Korean one is based from even had a video which Britney co-directed. She had to put some of her own funds into it to get it finished. Mtv didn't pick it up but the crap song and video was released in Canada. For your own interest I would attemp to download it, but don't link it to your site because it is really bad.
66. reloxz - April 1, 2006 9:27 PM
#65, "Do somthin'" was released in the USA and internationally( not just Canada). It was released after the title track from her Greatest Hits Album ,that is selling over 7million+ worldwide.(still on the world charts) I think she co-directed "Do somethin'" but didn't compose anything for the song.
Hyori-Lee, and many other Asian pop stars, have 'stolen' American pop music. Nto only that but Hyori-Lee even tries to 'sound' like Britney. I heard her song "Any motion" and she tries to do the "Owww" "Unhuh" little stuff that Britney does.
And for the people who say "All pop sounds the same"... well, welcome to 2006. Everything has been done before and sounds like something else.lol In fact, todays rock is the new 'PoP' and I'm sure we all know just how trite R&B/Hiphop is.
Anyway, 'Do somethin' sounds like 'Do somethin' and 'Get ya' sounds like a mix of 'Do somethin' and also Britneys remake of 'My perogative'.
If the compsers wanna sue...so be it. People should learn not to be so obvious. And for the record, Britney looks better than that 26yearold woman whose had about 3 or 4 surgical jobs done on her face.
67. Hara - April 1, 2006 10:08 PM

Britney = Old N' Busted
Hyori = New Hotness
Out with the old, in with the new and unoriginal. There are always going to be disputes over lyrics and beats. I sure as shit hope Hyori's people win and Britney's "peeps" get countersued for retardism.
Don't get me wrong, It's rather obvious the songs seem alike. To be honest with you, quite a few Hyori songs sound like other songs from pop stars in the U.S.
I've been aware of Hyori Lee for quite some time now. I've seen quite a few people actually strait up compare Federspears and Hyori as the "same girl", just from another country. Personally, I nominate Britney for the award "Quickest Career Fallout" in history. She went from hot as hell right back to trailer trash in 6 months flat. Now she is PMS'ing that Hyori is hotter than her, and even sounds better than her(if you understand what the hell Hyori says).
Who's mad now, K-Fed who became the laughing stock of the web because he's going to make an album? Excuse me while I laugh at that prospect again. HAHAHAHAHAHA
What really annoys me is the fact that an American recording company would even worry about an asian pop singer who's album hardly even hits the stores in the U.S. What the hell is she going to do? Take over the recording industry with one song?
Maybe she will countersue for retardism. I'm sure the U.S. courts will allow it!
69. robsss - April 1, 2006 10:33 PM
In response to #67.
All she is doing is dancing to the song, not remixing it with her own words or trying to lipsync with it. I see no problem with it.
70. Hara - April 1, 2006 10:55 PM
LOL to 68. To 69, it's a crime against humanity. There's a thing called rhythm. [here at least] she Doesn't have it. But hey. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my computer's skipping and making it look like she's massacring any and everything similar to the Crazy in Love dance. Maybe it didn't look just weird, sad, and wrong.
There are things that because of her body people like Beyonce will never be able to do or be [be skinny, pull off the cute schoolgirl look]. Britney needs to realize that the same is true for her [someone fill the blank in for me here]. So does k-fed -- and Please God so does Hyori. She is Not a booty bouncer.
71. Hara - April 1, 2006 11:12 PM

lol@ 68 ... You are too stupid.
First of all, it is not an American record company that is sueing Hyori Lee. It is a Korean Based company. The writers of 'Do somethin' are based in Korea, where Hyori is from, and they're the ones sueing her.( not Britney or her record company) lol.
To be honest, quite a few Hyori Lee songs sound like BRITNEY songs.lol And she was even given the title "The Korean Britney Spears" before "Get ya". Its not her fault tho. She didn't write "Get ya" or make the instrumental. All she did was dance to a song that someone told her to sing.
In reality, Hyori Lee isn't even getting sued, its her handlers. lol

Number 10, I completely agree with you. SHE's song is the same exact melody of britney's "sometimes". The SHE song is "Bie Shuo dui Bu Qi" I don't understand this case at all. I do agree that Lee's song is close to britney's but I don't think it is sueable close if sueable is even a word.
76. SaSsY - April 2, 2006 3:47 AM
You know? Whatever... Britney had her chance, if a freaking japannesse or wherever wants to make some money to feed her 128 siblings good for her!... Besides Brit should sue Starbucks or Cheetos' ppl for ruinning her career and making her look like a fatass!... this girl's got it... britney's over... weight... whatever... this makes no sense, it's like, now she has a baby to take care of, make sure that he has cigarrettes smokes under his nose on a regular basis.. making sure that "papa" K-FED doesn't buy drogs and hide it in Lil Preston's bottle... you know, regular housewives chores...

85. sirokai - April 2, 2006 4:23 PM
#71: What talent? She doesn't sing, just talks. Her dancing is typical, and like most pop stars, the only thing she ever does is look pretty. Not even that, because she really just acts like a hobag, and while that may win over a lot of people, I'm not impressed.
But worse than anything else, is the one thing that I can't stand about 99% of asian pop: The constant mix of English with whatever asian language they are using. It's just like Spanglish, which is ANNOYING. If you start speaking in one language, continue in that language until you are done. Don't give me this crap of English verses mixed with Korean or Japanese or Chinese verses. I hate it.
86. Hara - April 2, 2006 4:48 PM
Wow, Sirokai... my comment was definitely tongue-in-the-cheek.
In honesty I'm torn. Her 'art' is so outrageous [Don't sue me Britney!!] that I can't lie and say it isn't entertaining. And isn't that what Pop is all about, sucking people into a stupor of awe and disbelief so that we forget all about our sad little lives? It sure as heck isn't about technical virtuosity --
Most of Pop bores me because it's so predictable and repetitive, but there is Nothing predictable about a skinny asian girl shaking her imaginary junk-in-the-trunk. And that last video sold me. If the transformation of hip hop into something that far from NWA and inner city negroes doesn't keep you glued to your TV set [or computer screen, whatever] then, well, you have no soul.
Hyori is the best [read 'most absurd'] thing to happen to music and if the Spears camp doesn't respect that, they will be smited [pronounced "no- won - wil- cayr"].
87. Karl-Marl - April 2, 2006 6:23 PM
I wanted to take some time from my busy Sunday schedule to shed some light on this heated debate re: the legal counsel of American pop star Britney Spears’ litigious intentions toward Korean pop star Hyori Lee over apparent plagarism. Studying the Japanese language for several years now, I’ve come to appreciate some of the pop and rock music from that island nation; and when you listen to the music from one Asian nation, you inevitably hear, or at least hear about, music from other Asian nations, so this is not the first I’ve heard of Ms. Lee.
It is true that most Asian pop music styles tend to mirror whatever current fads are happening in American pop music, yet the most talented Asian performers (examples from Japan including Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, Tomoko Kawase and Yuki, to name a few) write their own lyrics and / or music and invent their own quite unique musical styles and images that set them apart from the bulk of what may be called ‘Pop Puppets.’ This sadly often costs them members of their individual fan bases who, like their Western counterparts, merely expect different variations of the same songs with each succeeding album and have no desire to listen to their favorite stars grow and change and challenge themselves as musicians.
The preceding argument being put forth for scrutiny, we can conclude from those points I make that Ms. Spears, like all American pop stars emerging from the previous decade, is a talentless herpes scab of a human being with a corporate arm shoved up her ass to make her lips move and her eyes blink. The Amerikkkan Music Industry has been eaten away from the inside out by lawyer-shaped termites who have collectively bled dry any future possibility for intelligent, clever and talented musicians to present their art to wider audiences by infusing formulas of an almost algorithmic precision in order to choose their clientele, formulas which allow for spitting out only the blandest, palest Xerox copies within the broad spectrum of what pop music once and could again present.
The above being proven true, we can accept the notion that the younger generation in Amerikkka just accepts whatever audio entertainment is placed in front of them by the Amerikkkan Music Industry using the army of the Amerikkkan Advertising Council to do its bidding. Each successive generation is pushed to be dumber than the last, to the point where they’re encouraged that talking like street trash somehow makes them appear ‘special’ and not ‘retarded’ or ‘unable to think for themselves’. Even with access to the ever-expanding Internet, the members of the younger generation refuse to spend any amount of time searching for music (or cinema or television, for that matter) that defies the current norms and offers any kind of alternative artistic explorations. This point, of course, includes not only the Amerikkkan pop genre, but also hip-hop (retarded, illiterate cheese) and rap (the worst ‘repeat six notes ad nauseum and parrot the same lyrical spooge the last dumbass did’ pseudo-music ever shoved down the throats of any culture).
I want to make the point that my favorite pop stars not only produce intelligent, talented works of music, but also look like sea goddesses and dragons and cranes and tigers; while Amerikkkan pop stars (Britsow, Christina Uglilera, Lindsay Lohanjob, Jessica Braindead, et al) all look like inbred trailer trash from Cowfkkk County, Kansas. As unimpressive as Ms. Lee’s musical output has been so far, she’s truly a K Yum-Yum who deserves to squeeze as much cash as she can from Britsow’s rancid sonic output. In conclusion, through this treatise I put forth, Britsow’s legal counsel will hopefully come to accept that they’ve individually chosen to spend their professional careers performing as leeches for a walking sack of pus with sagging tits and are all therefore encouraged to line up in a row and lick my sack. I thank you for your time.

Hyori Lee is hot now, but it's just a couple of years before she marries a deadbeat, puts on some weight and has a nude sculpture of herself placed in New York.

i agree, hyori is pretty talentless.
but hey.. she is also REALLY HOT.
92. adulation - April 2, 2006 10:04 PM
What I have to say has already been said. Asians have been copying the American culture for years.
However, I think Hyori has been (told to preform or) copying off the most. She and Lee Soo Young sang "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica in Korean. If you search on YouTube, you'll see that she has sang Genie in a Bottle and other songs everyone calls trash nowadays.
On a side note, she came in 2nd place for Korea's best butt. Which I thought was hilarious.
93. reloxz - April 2, 2006 10:21 PM
#87 "talented" (as you call them) artist like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, Tomoko Kawase and Yuki are really not that much different from the Americas mainstream 'talented' artist.lol
Lets rewind back a few years ago when your 'talented' diva Hikaru Utada tried to make her way into the American market. She came in with the same trite pop - hiphop/r&b crap that made her a success in Japan. End result, she flopped and failed without so much an actual performance. Similar stories can also be said about Ayumi during her prime. I'm not saying Asian music is bad but most of the mainstream stuff( artist like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, Tomoko Kawase and Yuki) are not really that much differnt in the artisty department than Britney Spears.
You preach as if artist like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hikaru Utada, Tomoko Kawase and Yuki are 'unknown' or 'underground' when they are just as popular as Hyori-Lee and ,n so manys a puppet like her, as well.
I've actually tried to get into Ayumi and Utada...they don't do it for me. I've only recently started listening to Hyori ,since the Britney incident, and shes already my favorite Asian artist even if her people are getting sued for stealing music.
Music is music and her music sounds good.
But like # 90 said... Hyori isn't even a Japanese artist.lol...
Shes from South Korea and mainly caters to the Korean market.lol Your Japanese v/s America pop music rant is not only inaccurate but uncalled for.lol Maybe you need to find a map to Korea next time you're in Japan. ;) They are really two different countries.

In regards to #87:
I read your post and it is obvious you are very educated and passionate about your views. But, for some reason- and I can't explain it- I want to punch you in the throat. I love the over-used, "Amerikkkan" spelling of the word "America" in your post. Your wit is surely appreciated in your monthly Star Wars focus group. I know the thought of you ever catching a touchdown pass, or hitting the game-winning RBI was your dream as a child, but reality is what it is. You are a sissy. You never found your "way" in life, so you figured using all your big words would separate you from the pack and we would all applaud your keen wit, trashing of Amerikkka, and your intense determination. But you're still the same little boy that mommy had to convince that you were smarter than everyone else and friends didn't matter. Good for momma. I want to let you in something:
America is America, not "Amerikkka". I agree, pop music is carboned copied throughout the world, but fuck you for saying that our pop whores are trashier than your pop whores. A pop whore is a pop whore, regardless of the fact you speak Japanese. You probably are a lot smarter than me (that's not difficult), but be assured, you're still an idiot. And eat shit. And don't post your thesis on the Superficial again. I hope you get dick cancer.
95. LickyLicky - April 2, 2006 11:23 PM
Hey. It's only Star Wars Focus on Thursday nights, except for the third Thursday of every month, when it's Star Trek. They wanted Saturdays, but the planetarium has their Led Zepplin laser shows on Saturdays, and who can pass that up? That's when they all crowd around in the parking lot and take a toke apiece off a skeeter leg and trip out to whatever that Viking song is...
Then they wait until the weed wears off on Sunday afternoon and blog about it.
96. TXBlonde - April 2, 2006 11:38 PM
I'm a very new poster - but I have to say: Papahotnuts, you write very well. This would not be the same thing as, say - curing cancer. All the whores throwing themselves at you should take it offline. And, you shouldn't let anyone bait you into a petty fight. I'm just saying.

OHHHH, I'm such a whore! Papa, please stick your big dictionary (I don't know if it's abridged or unabridged since we haven't discussed religion) in my thesaurus.
ROTF@ TXblonde. You must really be a dumb blonde if you take the 'throwing ourselves at Papa' seriously. It's people like him and Binky and M@ce and Laydee (haven't seen her in a while) and OshKosh and HughJorgan and a buncha-cruncha others who make this site so fucking awesome. I've been reading his writing for months now and he's one of the funniest people I've read. I love coming here and reading the often funny yet insightful comments by my fellow 'fichers. I wish I were half as witty as some of these guys!
And if by curing cancer you mean making me laugh my ass off on a consistent basis, then I say we give him the Nobel Prize! Ya know, you can cure cancer, end world hunger, make world peace a definite, but suck just ONE dick...

I really feel very strongly about this whole subject and really feel like this is a very important issue. Our society today is plagued by these concerns and it is now time for me to address them in the long post with run-on sentences in the hopes that someone will read it and understand my platform on the topic I feel so strongly about.
Truly this issus is important to all people regardless of nationality or sexually transmitted disease so in hopes that those who would come together would heede my cry, Lord, have mercy on me for my rambling ass mouth for we are talking about Britney Spears suing some Korean pop star no one has ever heard of saving Koreans and god dammit this is America and save it for your 10th grade speech class.

103. ura - April 3, 2006 10:18 AM
So they're exactly the same sounding song with almost the exactly the same videos.
As a Korean... I can tell you that the lyrics are almost the same too.
Hyori's song goes something like:
"the eyes were all at my short skirt, that was all.
with my song that's going to move you, I'm going to change you.
look at me upon this stage, until I can't catch my breath again
chorus:
I'm wanting you, starting to change a little
the way you look at me, "I'm gonna get ya"
you want it, give yourself to my dance
I'm moving you, "I'm gonna get ya""
then comes the instrumentals.
that was for those of you who really wanted to know what she was saying. Mind, that in korean the song sounds slightly more intelligable and song-like. But in the end, the two songs say the same thing.
Lastly, I think this is a collaboration between Brienty and Hyori's record companies. Now everybody who knows Britney knows Hyori.
But yes Korean music industry is crap. I noticed this especially when I went back after spending 5 years abroad. They all copy songs from western songs. All of them. And the superficiality of the culture doesn't allow the people to care. If you go to youtube and watch the "live" performance of any korean pop stars, you'll see none of them actually sing. This has been this way since k-pop started, and so far, nobody seems to care.
Another thing. Most Korean pop 'artists' can't dance, neither. At least Britney can dance.
Hey, from a marketing perspective though, well done Hyori's record company! Now you're in the global market!

#87- Try adding some humor, a little sarcasm, etc. Make it funny, and people might actually read it. Starting your comment off with:
"I wanted to take some time from my busy Sunday schedule to shed some light on this heated debate re: the legal counsel of American pop star Britney Spears’ litigious intentions toward Korean pop star Hyori Lee over apparent plagarism."
will get your thread the same number of avid readers as tax forms or VCR manuals.

I love how reloxz acts like America is completely accepting to asians in the media or that Utada's failure had anything to do with talent level. Everybody knows marketing and reputation plays a huge role in success in this market. Her, and other asian artists in general, will never have the desired image needed to sell records based on reputation alone. Nobody here associates asians with being an actress, singer or entertainment in general. Sad but true. Besides the sociological reasons, the album she released was terrible. Even her fans can recognize that. She arguably had one good song 'Exodus 04'. When people first heard 'Easy Breezy' they thought it was a joke. Her company tried to appeal to the mainstream white America fan base and failed miserably because most of her fans don't want to hear a song about how she's japanesey and wanting a white dude to like her. Especially when they know she's married and all. It was a joke. Bottom line is, the assertion that the Japanese or Korean markets contain untalented people is just ridiculous.
I also enjoyed how sinokai sterotypes all asian music based on artists like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hyori or Namie Amuro. Nobody considers Hyori talented even in asian music circles. And the others aren't even popular because of their singing level. Ugh. Even at that, they are no different from the great majority of pop artists in America.
Artists like Ken Hirai, Park Hyo Shin, Clazziquai, Big Mama, Kim Bum Soo and AI would easily succeed based on talent. And that's not even mentioned any hip hop or rock groups, which probably have a higher ratio of talent anyway. Too bad most of them don't speak fluent English so it's impossible to make the transition. The only reason Utada attempted it is because she's fluent in English, anybody who isn't would fail terribly. Especially with the social aversion to FOB accents. But hey, it's your decision to be ignorant. Don't let me stop you. Hahaha.
115. blackblackheart - April 3, 2006 11:01 PM
Err.. if you know anything about Korean media, you'll know that they do this ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Korean artists steal beats all the time. It happens quite literally every day... I've heard at least 25 Korean 50 Cent rip offs...
the only reason Britney Spears is suing is because she realized that eating cheetos on the couch all day doesn't accumulate money.
Compared to the other rips I've seen/heard, this is NOT worth suing over.
good thing.. more coverage for my Hyori Lee~ ^_^

O.K I know that American pop star Britney Spears and Korean pop star Hyori Lee have nothing to do with the sueing. So I'm just going to use them for EXAMPLES as if Britney WERE sueing Hyori. I would first like to point out that although japanese and korean songs are pop, not ALL of them "suck" or "are crappy". Listening to the wrong singers tend to make you think that way about them. I would know^_^. Like #87 said,"Asian pop music styles tend to mirror whatever current fads are happening in American pop music". This I do agree with. You can even say they mirror dancing. The song does sound similar to Britney's song, but people it's ALWAYS gonna be like that. Even in foreign contries. Why is Britney (remember, just pretending she is the one sueing)even concern with what a Korean pop singer is doing when she's all the way over here in America. Maybe Hyori is inspired by Britney Spears. IF the beat was "stolen" yes, it is wrong. But I don't think Hyori Lee should get sued. A world TV apology would be better. Yet, perhaps they didn't understand that over here when artist want to duplicatate or remake a song, they asked the person who originally made it FIRST. I do remember reading that Hyori's composer said that he was inspired by Britney's song "DO SOMETHIN'".
Conclusion: All I'm saying is that these women are miles and miles apart.Hyori's song should not even have been an issue to began with. She's singer a song that was wrote for her to sing. Britney's gonna do her thing and H. Lee's gonna do hers. WHOEVER is doing the sueing just needs to leave it be. THAT'S ALL. It's like sueing a kid for street dancing because he's using moves that he didn't come up with rather those he saw from the movie "Got Served" or the video "Gossip Folks".
118. vanlin - April 4, 2006 6:53 PM
I'm just glad I didn't see the Pepsi commercial with Britney, Beyonce, and what's-her-name. Butchering a great sports song from famed singer, Fred Mercury, We Will Rock You. I'm also glad I didn't hear her rendition of I Love Rock N Roll, especially afterwards, she thought the song was from Pat Benatar, and not Joan Jett. If she wants to butcher that song again, why doesn't she change the lyrics from I Love Rock N ROll, to I Love to Suck N Blow?
And as for whose idea it was to starting suing somebody, please get a life. Almost everbody screws someone over, just ask the jerks that run Enron.
And here's something else for KFed. Instead of this stupid nickname of his, he should start calling himself KY Jelly, because it's obvious who's getting it up the ass for all the failures and silliness of his life.
119. azndgn26 - April 20, 2006 5:01 PM
[Quote=xi]I don't get it. There are plenty of Asian songs that copy pop song melodies note for note, and they don't get sued. (Off the top of my head I can think of a SHE song that's a copy of Britney's 'Sometimes'. There's also a Chinese boy band called Energy that just takes other songs and puts Chinese lyrics to them.) The melody here is only similar and it gets sued.[/Quote]
There's a difference between taking the song and singing it in a diff language than takin the melodies and singing with a diff lyric. Singin the song in their dialect is called a cover, they are simply just singing the original artists's song in a diff language which is not copying. But if they are changing the lyrics of the song but using the same beat w/o askin for permission, it's called plagerizing which Hyori Lee's producers have committed.
120. Jay Hernandez - April 29, 2006 8:12 AM
This song is not similar to B-ney's song. In fact, I like this song better! Hyori is not singing about how the guy needs to come get her, she's singing about how she is going to
get the guy...And to be honest, there have been plenty of American people who steal/stole alot of songs/movies/clothes , from the asian people..So no one should be complaining..
I hope those people lose their law suit..they are just mad that hyori looks better then b-ney and no hyori does not look like a slut...besides, takes a slut to know one..:-)
