Feb 21 2006Catherine Keener shoots down fans

ckeener-demands.jpgYou wouldn't think that Catherine Keener would be a demanding snob, but you'd be wrong. A couple recently made a charity bid on a backstage visit to PBS's The Charlie Rose Show but had to reschedule because Keener demanded no visitors be allowed in the green room before, during, or after her taping.

For a woman I had no idea was even alive until The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Keener seems a bit too ungrateful towards her fans. And I use the term "fans" loosely, because I don't think anybody cares enough about her to actually be considered one. In fact, I had to IMDB her name twice while writing this because I forgot who she was and why she's famous. Apparently she played 'Nina' on an episode of Seinfeld. Exciting!

Do you know how I know your gay?

you know who catherine keener is

Do you know how I know you are gay?

You like coldplay

Know how I know you're gay?

Cause you wear a shirt that says "I'm a Barry Fanilow"

i don't care how many fans she has or pisses off. 40 year old virgin was a funny flick

Apparently she's a big star in independent films. By independent, I mean German Scheize, of course

She was in the dark comedy, "Death to Smoochy" too. That was some funny shit. It was like watching Barney meets the Godfather.

I didn't know her name was Catherine Keener until I read this piece. When I first saw 40 Year Old Virgin, I said, "That's that crazy bitch from 'Death to Smoochy!'"

I think I'll make chili for dinner tonight.

Who cares, I mean really.

i care about chili . mmmmm chili

what kind of chili cheeky?

helllloooooooo. what are you, 15? catherine keaner gained a pretty stable fanbase for her role as maxine in "being john malkovich." she was pretty hot in a bend-over-my-knee kinda way.

mmmmmmmm cake for dessert after the chili

How about chocolate molten cake, Jugs? The kind that is heated and oozes chocolate sauce when you cut into it. :::salvating:::

Did you not see "Being John Malkovich"?

Yes. Don't recall her. Unless she's jumped on couches, married Michael Jackson or made a porn flick, she just doesn't matter.

Yes I Saw BJM, it was an okay flick.

But a movie about choco molten cake would be better !

Do they make it at your farm #11?

I don't remember her in "Being John Malkovich". I do remeber she played a great part in "Being Unrecognizable Unless You Just Saw 40-Year-Old-Virgin Yesterday". She should have been nominated for that except no one knew her name or if she had actually been born and breathed air.

And for post #11, cakefarm, nooooooooo I'm not 15 and don't be a condescending prick with your questions. And if you are, spell her name right. Jackass.

"Being John Malkovich" "Death to Smoochy" loved them, like Cath Keener (she's tall) but she needs to eat a cheeseburger.

Anyone who gets to do a kissing scene with Edward Norton in OK in my book.

Too bad she's a bitch tho!

c'mon, she was amazing in "Malkovich" (how could you not notice Maxine in that? Total femme-fatale-opportunist hotness) and she was very, um, lovable in "Lovely and Amazing" too.

interesting green room restrictions, though. Does she need to get In The Zone just to talk with Charlie Rose? weirdo.

I've known who she is for years because "critics" seem to love everything she does. She's nominated for an Oscar this for playing Harper Lee in "Capote". I guess since she doesn't live her life in the tabloids most people don't know who she is. Which is fine, I'd rather read about skanks like Paris Hilton than people who are actually talented. The skanks are much more entertaining because they have to be. She is married to Dermott Mulroney (I think they are getting divored) and he is smoking hot. Points for that.

I saw her at the SAG awards and she really needs her arms waxed.

LOVED Death To Smoochy. When he pulled the dick cookie out, did a long pause, while Robin Williams is watching and waiting, and announced, "It's a rocketship!", it was great.

Though if he would have announced that it was a penis cookie, maybe Tom would have forgotten about his stupid lawsuit(s) for a moment. Dick and cookie in the same sentence is a weiner. I mean winner.

"Craigy waigy!" Don't know why, but that line she has in BJM just cracks me the fuck up.

Saw "Malkovich" - don't remember her. Couldn't sit through "Smoochy" - don't remember her. Saw "Capote" - remember her character, didn't know it was her. Rented "Virgin" over the weekend - recognized her after reading the post.

Guess I'll have to resign my Superfish membership.

Do you know how i know you are gay?

You have a rainbow bumpersticker on your car that says "I love it when *balls* are in my face

Jesus, I'm throwing myself at you and all you can think about is fucking toys!

As cool of an actress as Catherine Keener is, she always comes off as an somewhat of a bitch. I'm not surprised that she pulls this Prima Donna b.s. regarding "fans", although I think her view of herself may be a bit inflated.

Jugs, I HAVE that sticker! (as I brush the balls away from face)

Ugh, THIS is what Diva-dom has come to?

I love Keener. She's a great actress and just because she hasn't been a main stream movie whore doesn't mean she is nothing special... Also maybe has a good reason for not wanting people in her dressing room.

I don't remember her from 40 year old Virgin.

Huh.
I need to watch it again.

Yawn. I don't think that Catherine Keener a compelling actress to watch at all. The critics seem to love her because she does a lot of indie flicks, but I think she is totally boring. She is completely forgettable.

Its kind of fun to hear that she is a bitch though.

In response to #25 - I just saw "Capote" this weekend (great fuckin' flick if you are a BIG fan of his work like I am) and I did not know it was her. I have to admit she did a great job playing Harper Lee, now I have to watch that movie again.

Catherine who??????

Proton Man,

Exactly.

She's not cute.

Therefore, I don't think she has fans.

Can't say anything bad about the chick from Being John Malchvitch, quite possibly the tripiest movie of all time, after Adaptation.

Oh sorry I forgot where I was.

She didn't want anyone in the room because Paris was working her over with a strap-on.

What a c**t! She's probably bitcher than Truman Capote!

I never heard of the bitch before this. And I obviously I haven't missed anything. If she actually WAS famous I'd hate to hear how she would act!

She is completely forgettable.

The mark of a good actor :)

She does a lot of Independent films and she;s a really good actress. If my first big movie was 40-Year-Old-Virgin, i'd be a little mad too. But yeah, that was kind of bitchy heh.

Yeah, her role in Malkovitch was slick. She was cruel and opportunistic... and her lesbian attraction to John Malkovitch was hilarious.

Re: 41, Posted by Average

I don't think that the mark of a good actor is to be totally forgettable. Perhaps to be unrecognizable is a talent, but not forgettable. If an actor can transform their body, voice, mannerisms enough to disappear into a character and become unrecognizable, then maybe they have some talent. But if an actor is just so damn boring that I don't remember anything about what their character did in a particular movie, then I don't call that good acting.

Although, its possible that she is a great actress. I just think she is boring and I don't remember much about the characters she plays.

She was in Being John Malkovich, DUH! She was good in it too. The problem is sometimes she picks unmemorable roles and sometimes she picks good ones but she doesn't get recognized. She probably just needs to concentrate on indie flicks cause that's her strong point, not TV BS.

AHH WHO?

It is though, when you are done or during watching a movie if you say "hey that was/is some good acting" they didnt do their job.
If you think about the character in relation to the movie and only to the movie they did their job.

Nobody knew who Viggo Mortensen was until LotR but he was in numerous very good films before it. He is the perfect example of an actor that does his job so well you dont even think about them after the movie, you just think, that was a great movie.

Of course being in a movie like LotR that has a huge fan base changes that.

so what's her number?
