Al Lewis, better known as Grandpa Munster, died Friday night at the age of 82.

UPDATE: Yeah, I don't know how 1910-2006 equals 82 either. My guess is that he was a sorceror.

1910-2006 = 82?

And yeah, this hurts. The Munsters was a bloody awesome show. Man, all those times Herman had to deal with those stupid humans who just _didn't_ seem to understand the way the world worked.
Crazy white collared shmos.

82 and he was born in 1910?

That's some damn good oil of olay!

1910-2006 = 82 years old?

If my superior mathematics skills are correct, I would have to disagree with you, and point out that he would have had to been 95/6 years old when he died, assuming his DOB is correct.

My superior mathematics skills being 'For every whole number, kill a transvestite.'

maybe my math is off, but doesn't 1910-2006 imply that al lewis lived past the age of 82? maybe i could go as far as to suggest he may have been at least 95? but i don't know, maybe you guys at the superficial have your own way of defining age. because mr. lewis was so well-liked and young at heart, he seemed much younger than he really was. and according to your calculations, tara reid would be upwards of 70, since her liver is perhaps more damaged than your surprisingly musically-talented neighborhood hobo.

From the Associated Press:
"The actor was widely reported to have been born in 1910, but his son Ted Lewis said Saturday that his father was born in 1923."

Apparently, a birthdate of April 23, 1923 has been documented on his birth certificate and college application. (These documents were shown on an episode of "A&E Biography" in 2000.) Lewis claims to have been in the circus in the late '20s and in the merchant marine in the '30s, but he wasn't really. He lied about his age to get the part of Grandpa, and he's been lying about it ever since...until now, I guess...RIP

He lied about his age and other stuff ?!!
Well everyone has a few 'monsters in their closet' I guess'

#9 you just made me nearly wet my pants. you get the funny award for the day, i love it.

Awwwwww, Grandpa. Say, did anyone ever eat at his restaurant. He would greet people at the door. He was way cool, a really hip cat. The food was actually good, too. I mean this was like, ummmm.....10-12 years ago, maybe more, when I went there. Oh yeah, #9 HollyJ, you killed me with that one.

I got to meet him years ago at his restaurant in NY. Good food, and he was an awesome host.

What a badass.

R.I.P

Very talented man. I loved The Munsters as a kid. He was always funny as hell when he was on Howard Stern's show.

I'm pretty sure all the media were reporting his age as 95 . . . not 82??

I will have my zipper at half mast the entire week. Loved this guy.

well, duh. he was 80 back in the 60s. think about it: he travels through time!

jeez. am I the only one thinking logically around here?

At #17 I guess everyone mourn in different ways =/

RIP? He;s the undead. The undead don;t rest in peace, they come out of their graves and eat brains. I'm getting my shovel and peeing on his dead corpse, cause pee to the undead is like acid.

82? 95? Grandpa Al Lewis was a restauranteur. That means he's now 86.

he's more attractive than every celebrity on the front page put together...we'll miss you...

Hey "Superficial"!

Congrats on your mention in the L.A. Times Calendar section--you know what this means, don't you? More superficial treatment from "higher ups", maybe even a good table at your fav Hollywood spot! Wish you had a journal on here to share some of your private thoughts...well, good goin' and keep us laughin!

they aren't confused about his age! they're just using "the new math" to figure it out!
but seriously...first herman, now grandpa? what's next? et tu, lily?

i am sorry too.
